Sirach 17

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 The Lord fashioned human beings from the earth, to consign them back to it.	1 Il Signore creò l'uomo dalla terra, e lo formò a sua immagine,
2 He gave them so many days and so much time, he gave them authority over everything on earth.	2 e lo fa ritornare alla terra; e secondo la sua natura lo rivestì di forza.
3 He clothed them in strength, like himself, and made them in his own image.	3 Un numero di giorni e un tempo gli assegnò, e gli diè potere sulle cose che son sulla terra.
4 He fil ed al living things with dread of human beings, making them masters over beasts and birds.	4 Infuse il timore di lui in ogni carne, ed egli ebbe impero sulle bestie e sul volatili.
5	5 Gli creò un aiuto simile a lui, e diede loro il giudizio e la lingua e gli occhi, e le orecchie e il cuore per pensare. E li riempì del sapere dell'Intelligenza,
6 He made them a tongue, eyes and ears, and gave them a heart to think with.	6 creò per essi la scienza dello spirito. E di senno riempì il cuor loro, e il bene e il male fece loro conoscere.
7 He fil ed them with knowledge and intelligence, and showed them what was good and what evil.	7 Mise l'occhio suo ne' loro cuori, per mostrare ad essi la mogniflcenza delle sue opere,
8 He put his own light in their hearts to show them the magnificence of his works,	8 perchè celebrino il [suo] santo nome, e si glorino delle meraviglie di lui, e raccontino la magnificenza delle sue opere.
9	9 Diede loro inoltre la scienza, e li fece eredi della legge di vita.
10 so that they would praise his holy name as they told of his magnificent works.	10 Un patto eterno stabilì con loro, e la sua giustizia e i suoi comandamenti significò ad essi.
11 He set knowledge before them, he endowed them with the law of life.	11 E gli splendori della sua gloria vide l'occhio loro, e la maestà della sua voce udiron le loro orecchie. E disse loro: «Guardatevi da ogni iniquità»,
12 He established an eternal covenant with them, and revealed his judgements to them.	12 e diede loro precetti [sui doveri] dell'uno verso l'altro.
13 Their eyes saw the majesty of his glory, and their ears heard the glory of his voice.	13 Le loro vie son sempre dinanzi a lui; non son nascoste al suoi occhi.
14 He said to them, 'Beware of al wrong-doing'; he gave each a commandment concerning hisneighbour.	14 Ad ogni popolo prepose un principe,
15 Their ways are always under his eye, they cannot be hidden from his sight.	15 ma Israele è la porzione del Signore.
16	16 E tutte le opere loro son come il sole al cospetto di Dio, e i suoi occhi son continuamente rivolti alle loro vie.
17 Over each nation he has set a governor, but Israel is the Lord's own portion.	17 Non son nascoste a lui le loro ingiustizie, e tutte le loro iniquità stanno al cospetto del Signore.
18	18 La limosina dell'uomo è per lui come un sigillo, ed egli tiene conto della carità dell'uomo come della pupilla.
19 Their actions are al as plain as the sun to him, and his eyes rest constantly on their conduct.	19 E più tardi si leverà e renderà loro ciò che meritano, [e la dovuta] retribuzione [farà ricadere] sul loro capo, e sprofonderà [i colpevoli] negli abissi della terra.
20 Their iniquities are not hidden from him, al their sins are before the Lord.	20 Ma ai pentiti apre la via della giustizia, e conforta quei che han perduto la speranza, e destina loro in sorte la verità.
21	21 Convertiti al Signore e lascia i tuoi peccati;
22 Almsgiving is like a signet ring to him, he cherishes generosity like the pupil of an eye.	22 prega al suo cospetto e diminuisci gl'inciampi.
23 One day he wil rise and reward them, he wil repay their deserts on their own heads.	23 Torna al Signore e allontanati dall'ingiustizia, e odia fortemente l'abominazione.
24 But to those who repent he permits return, and he encourages those who have lost hope.	24 E impara a conoscere i comandamenti e i giudizi di Dio, e sta' saldo nella [tua] sorte del [buono] proposito e della preghiera di Dio altissimo.
25 Return to the Lord and renounce your sins, plead before his face, stop offending him.	25 Nelle regioni del mondo santo t'aggira, insieme a quei che vivono e danno gloria a Dio.
26 Come back to the Most High, turn away from iniquity and hold all that is foul in abhorrence.	26 Non ti trattenere nell'errore degli empi: prima della morte dà lode [a Dio]. Nel morto, [ch'è] come un nulla, perisce la [possibilità di dar] lode:
27 Who is going to praise the Most High in Sheol if we do not glorify him while we are alive?	27 darai lode, da vivo, vivo e sano darai lode e onore a Dio, e ti glorierai delle sue misericordie.
28 The dead can praise no more than those who do not exist, only those with life and health can praisethe Lord.	28 Quanto grande è la misericordia del Signore e la sua indulgenza verso quelli che a lui si convertono!
29 How great is the mercy of the Lord, his pardon for those who turn to him!	29 Tutto invero non può esser negli uomini, perchè non è immortale il figliuolo dell'uomo, e si compiace della vanità del male.
30 For we cannot have everything, human beings are not immortal.	30 Che v'ha di più splendido del sole? eppur si oscura! così il malvagio nutrirà pensieri di carne e sangue.
31 What is brighter than the sun? And yet it fades. Flesh and blood think of nothing but evil.	31 Quello invigila l'esercito dell'empireo, e gli uomini tutti son terra e cenere!
32 He surveys the armies of the lofty sky, and al of us are only dust and ashes.
