Proverbs 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 My child, keep my words, and treasure my precepts,	1 Mon fils, retiens mes paroles, garde précieusement mes conseils.
2 keep my precepts and you wil live, keep my teaching as the apple of your eye.	2 Observe mes commandements et tu vivras, garde mon enseignement comme la prunelle de tes yeux.
3 Bind these to your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart.	3 Serre-les fermement entre tes doigts, inscris-les sur les tablettes de ton cœur!
4 Say to Wisdom, 'You are my sister!' Cal Understanding your relation,	4 Dis à la sagesse: “Sois ma sœur”, et à l’intelligence: “Sois mon amie”.
5 to save yourself from the woman that belongs to another, from the stranger, with her seductive words.	5 Alors tu sauras te garder de la femme d’un autre, de la belle inconnue aux douces paroles.
6 While I was at the window of my house, I was looking out through the lattice	6 De la fenêtre de ma maison je regardais à travers le grillage,
7 and I saw, among the cal ow youths, I noticed among the lads, one boy who had no sense.	7 et je vis passer un naïf, un de ces jeunes qui ne pensent à rien.

11 She is loud and brazen; her feet cannot rest at home.	11 C’est la femme effrontée, qui n’a plus de honte, qui ne tient plus en place dans sa maison.
12 Once in the street, once in the square, she lurks at every corner.	12 Tantôt dans la rue, tantôt sur les places, de tous côtés elle cherche l’aventure.
13 She catches hold of him, she kisses him, the bold-faced creature says to him,	13 Elle se jette sur ce jeune homme et l’embrasse; elle lui dit d’un ton assuré:
14 'I had to offer a communion sacrifice, I have discharged my vows today;	14 “Il me fallait offrir un sacrifice, aujourd’hui même je devais m’acquitter d’un vœu.
15 that is why I came out to meet you, to look for you, and now I have found you.	15 Je suis donc sortie à ta recherche pour que tu sois au repas et je t’ai trouvé.
16 I have spread coverlets over my divan, embroidered stuff, Egyptian material,	16 J’ai garni mon divan de couvertures, de fine toile d’Égypte.
17 I have sprinkled my bed with myrrh, with aloes and cinnamon.	17 J’ai parfumé mon lit avec de la myrrhe, de l’aloès et de la marjolaine.
18 Come on, we'l make love as much as we like, till morning. Let us enjoy the delights of love!	18 Viens, prenons notre plaisir, enivrons-nous d’amour jusqu’au matin!
19 For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a very long journey,	19 Mon mari n’est pas à la maison, il est en voyage loin d’ici;
20 taking his moneybags with him; he wil not be back til the moon is ful .'	20 il a pris l’argent avec lui et ne reviendra à la maison qu’à la pleine lune.”
21 With her persistent coaxing she overcomes him, lures him on with her wheedling patter.	21 À force d’habileté elle réussit à le convaincre, elle le séduit et l’entraîne.
22 Forthwith he fol ows her, like an ox on its way to the slaughterhouse, like a madman on his way to thestocks,	22 Il la suit aussitôt, comme un bœuf qu’on mène à l’abattoir, comme un cerf pris au nœud coulant,
23 until an arrow pierces him to the liver, like the bird that dashes into the net without realising that its lifeis at stake.	23 à qui bientôt une flèche percera le foie. Il est comme l’oiseau qui se jette dans le filet, sans savoir qu’il y va de sa vie!
24 And now, son, listen to me, pay attention to the words I have to say:	24 Donc vous, mes fils, écoutez-moi; retenez bien cette consigne:
25 do not let your heart stray into her ways, or wander into her paths;	25 ne te laisse pas séduire par une de ces femmes, ne te laisse pas égarer par ses manœuvres.
26 she has done so many to death, and the strongest have al been her victims.	26 Car elle a déjà fait beaucoup de victimes, et les plus forts y sont tombés.
27 Her house is the way to Sheol, the descent to the courts of death.	27 De sa maison on passe chez les morts, c’est un chemin qui s’enfonce vers le monde des morts.
