NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Snow no more befits the summer, nor rain the harvest-time, than honours befit a fool.	1 Como nieve en verano y lluvia en la siega, así de mal le sienta la gloria al insensato.
2 As the sparrow escapes, and the swal ow flies away, so the undeserved curse will never hit its mark.	2 Como se escapa el pájaro y vuela la golondrina, así no se realiza la maldición sin motivo.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and for the backs of fools, a stick.	3 Látigo para el caballo, brida para el asno y vara para la espalda de los necios.
4 Do not answer a fool in the terms of his fol y for fear you grow like him yourself.	4 No respondas al necio según su necedad, no sea que tú también te vuelvas como él.
5 Answer a fool in the terms of his fol y for fear he imagine himself wise.	5 Responde al necio según su necedad, no vaya a creerse que es un sabio.
6 He wounds himself, he takes violence for his drink, who sends a message by a fool.	6 Se corta los pies, se empapa de amargura, el que envía un recado en mano de necio.
7 Unreliable as the legs of the lame, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.	7 Como las piernas vacilantes del cojo, es el proverbio en boca de los necios.
8 As wel tie the stone to the sling as pay honour to a fool.	8 Como sujetar una piedra en la honda, es conceder honores a un necio.
9 A thorn branch in a drunkard's hand, such is a proverb in the mouth of fools.	9 Como espino que va a parar a mano de borracho, es el proverbio en boca de los necios.
10 An archer wounding everyone, such is he who hires the passing fool and drunkard.	10 Como arquero que a todos hiere, es el que toma a sueldo al necio y al borracho que pasan.
11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool reverts to his fol y.	11 Como el perro vuelve a su vómito, vuelve el necio a su insensatez.
12 You see someone who thinks himself wise? More to be hoped for from a fool than from him!	12 ¿Has visto a un hombre que se cree sabio? Más se puede esperar de un necio que de él.
13 'A wild beast on the road!' says the idler, 'a lion in the streets!'	13 Dice el perezoso: «¡Un león en el camino! ¡Un león en la plaza!»
14 The door turns on its hinges, the idler on his bed.	14 La puerta gira en los goznes, y el perezoso en la cama.
15 Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but is too tired to bring it back to his mouth.	15 El perezoso hunde la mano en el plato; pero le fatiga llevarla a la boca.
16 The idler thinks himself wiser than seven people who answer with discretion.	16 El perezoso se tiene por más sabio que siete personas que responden con tacto.
17 He takes a stray dog by the ears, who meddles in someone else's quarrel.	17 Agarra por las orejas a un perro que pasa el que se mete en litigio que no le incumbe.
18 Like a madman hurling firebrands, arrows and death,	18 Como un loco que arroja saetas escondidas, flechas y muerte,
19 so is anyone who lies to a companion and then says, 'Aren't I amusing?'	19 tal es el hombre que engaña a su prójimo, y dice: «¿No ves que estaba bromeando?»
20 No wood, and the fire goes out; no slanderer, and quarrel ing dies down.	20 Cuando se acaba la leña, se apaga el fuego, cuando no hay chismoso, se apacigua la disputa.
21 Charcoal for live embers, wood for fire, and the quarrelsome for kindling strife.	21 Carbón sobre brasas y leña sobre fuego, es el pleiteador para atizar querellas.
22 The words of a slanderer are tasty morsels that go right down into the bel y.	22 Las palabras del delator son golosinas que bajan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.
23 Base silver-plate on top of clay: such are fervent lips and a wicked heart.	23 Plata con escorias esmaltada sobre arcilla, son los labios dulces con corazón perverso.
24 Whoever hates may hide it in speech, but deep within lies treachery;	24 El que odia, disimula con sus labios, pero en su interior comete perfidia;
25 do not trust such a person's pretty speeches, since in the heart lurk seven abominations.	25 si da a su voz un tono amable, no te fíes, porque hay siete abominaciones en su corazón.
26 Hatred may disguise itself with guile, to reveal its wickedness later in the assembly.	26 Encubrirá su odio con engaño, pero en la asamblea se descubrirá su malicia.
27 Whoever digs a pit fal s into it, the stone comes back on him that rol s it.	27 El que excava una fosa caerá en ella, el que hace rodar una piedra se le vendrá encima.
28 The lying tongue hates its victims, the wheedling mouth causes ruin.	28 La lengua mentirosa odia a sus víctimas, la boca melosa labra la ruina.
