Proverbs 14

1 Wisdom builds herself a house; with her own hands Folly pul s it down.	1 La donna saggia costruisce la sua casa, quella stolta la demolisce con le proprie mani.
2 Whoever keeps to an honest course fears Yahweh, whoever deserts his paths shows contempt forhim.	2 Cammina nella propria giustizia chi teme il Signore, ma chi è traviato nelle proprie vie lo disprezza.
3 Pride sprouts in the mouth of the fool, the lips of the wise keep them safe.	3 Nella bocca dello stolto c’è il germoglio della superbia, ma le labbra dei saggi sono la loro salvaguardia.
4 No oxen, empty manger; strong bul , much cash.	4 Se non ci sono buoi la greppia è vuota, l’abbondanza del raccolto sta nel vigore del toro.
5 The truthful witness tells no lies, the false witness lies with every breath.	5 Il testimone sincero non mentisce, chi proferisce menzogne è testimone falso.
6 In vain the mocker looks for wisdom, knowledge comes easy to the intel igent.	6 Lo spavaldo ricerca la sapienza ma invano, la scienza è cosa facile per l’intelligente.
7 Keep wel clear of the fool, you wil not find wise lips there.	7 Stai lontano dall’uomo stolto: in lui non troverai labbra sapienti.
8 With people of discretion, wisdom keeps a watch over their conduct, but the fol y of fools leads themastray.	8 Il sapiente avveduto conosce la sua strada, ma la stoltezza degli sciocchi è inganno.
9 Fools mock at the sacrifice for sin, but favour resides among the honest.	9 Tra gli stolti risiede la colpa, tra i giusti dimora la benevolenza.
10 The heart knows its own grief best, nor can a stranger share its joy.	10 Il cuore conosce la propria amarezza e alla sua gioia non partecipa l’estraneo.
11 The house of the wicked wil be destroyed, the tent of the honest wil prosper.	11 La casa degli empi sarà abbattuta, ma la tenda dei giusti prospererà.
12 There are ways that some think straight, but they lead in the end to death.	12 C’è una via che sembra diritta per l’uomo, ma alla fine conduce su sentieri di morte.
13 Even in laughter the heart finds sadness, and joy makes way for sorrow.	13 Anche nel riso il cuore prova dolore e la gioia può finire in pena.
14 The miscreant wil reap the reward of his conduct, and the good the reward of his deeds.	14 Il perverso si sazia della sua condotta, l’uomo buono delle sue opere.
15 The simpleton believes any message, a person of discretion treads a careful path.	15 L’ingenuo crede a ogni parola, ma chi è avveduto controlla i propri passi.
16 The wise fears evil and avoids it, the fool is insolent and conceited.	16 Il saggio teme e sta lontano dal male, lo stolto invece è impulsivo e si sente sicuro.
17 A quick-tempered person commits rash acts, but a schemer is detestable.	17 Chi è pronto all’ira commette sciocchezze, il malintenzionato si rende odioso.
18 Simpletons have folly for their portion, people of discretion knowledge for their crown.	18 Gli inesperti ereditano la stoltezza, gli accorti si coronano di scienza.
19 The evil bow down before the good, the wicked, at the gates of the upright.	19 I cattivi si inchinano davanti ai buoni, i malvagi davanti alle porte del giusto.
20 The poor is detestable even to a friend, but many are they who love someone rich.	20 Il povero è odioso anche a chi gli è pari, ma numerosi sono gli amici del ricco.
21 One who despises the needy is at fault, one who takes pity on the poor is blessed.	21 Chi disprezza il prossimo pecca, beato chi ha pietà degli umili.
22 Plan evil -- isn't this to go astray? Those who plan for good can earn faithful love and constancy.	22 Non errano forse quelli che compiono il male? Amore e fedeltà per quanti compiono il bene.
23 Hard work always yields its profit, idle talk brings only want.	23 In ogni fatica c’è un vantaggio, ma le chiacchiere portano solo miseria.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the fol y of fools is folly.	24 Corona dei saggi è la loro ricchezza, la follia degli stolti produce solo follia.
25 A truthful witness saves lives, whoever utters lies is a deceiver.	25 È salvezza per molti il testimone veritiero, ma chi proferisce menzogne è un impostore.
26 In the fear of Yahweh is powerful security; for his children he is a refuge.	26 Nel timore del Signore sta la fiducia del forte; anche per i suoi figli egli sarà un rifugio.
27 The fear of Yahweh is a life-giving spring for eluding the snares of death.	27 Il timore del Signore è fonte di vita per sfuggire ai lacci della morte.
28 Large population, monarch's glory; dwindling population, ruler's ruin.	28 Un popolo numeroso è la gloria del re, ma la scarsità di gente è la rovina del principe.
29 Mastery of temper is high proof of intel igence, a quick temper makes fol y worse than ever.	29 Chi è paziente ha grande prudenza, chi è iracondo mostra stoltezza.
30 The life of the body is a tranquil heart, but envy is a cancer in the bones.	30 Un cuore tranquillo è la vita del corpo, l’invidia è la carie delle ossa.
31 To oppress the weak insults the Creator, kindness to the needy honours the Creator.	31 Chi opprime il povero offende il suo creatore, chi ha pietà del misero lo onora.
32 For evil-doing, the wicked wil be flung headlong, but in integrity the upright wil find refuge.	32 Dalla propria cattiveria è travolto il malvagio, anche nella morte il giusto trova rifugio.
33 Wisdom resides in an understanding heart; she is not to be found in the hearts of fools.	33 In un cuore intelligente risiede la sapienza, ma in mezzo agli stolti verrà riconosciuta?
34 Uprightness makes a nation great, by sin whole races are disgraced.	34 La giustizia esalta una nazione, ma il peccato è la vergogna dei popoli.
35 A king shows favour to a wise minister, but anger to one who shames him.	35 Il favore del re è per il ministro intelligente, la sua ira è per l’indegno.
