Proverbs 14

1 Wisdom builds herself a house; with her own hands Folly pul s it down.	1 A bölcs nő felépíti házát, a balga pedig a felépültet is lebontja kezével.
2 Whoever keeps to an honest course fears Yahweh, whoever deserts his paths shows contempt forhim.	2 Az igaz úton járó, istenfélő embert lenézi az, aki gyalázatos úton halad.
3 Pride sprouts in the mouth of the fool, the lips of the wise keep them safe.	3 A balga szájában a kevélység vesszeje van, a bölcseket azonban ajkuk megóvja.
4 No oxen, empty manger; strong bul , much cash.	4 Ahol nincsen marha, üres a jászol, ahol sok a termés, ott nyilvánvaló az ökör ereje.
5 The truthful witness tells no lies, the false witness lies with every breath.	5 Igazságszerető tanú nem hazudik, a hamis tanú azonban ontja a hazugságot.
6 In vain the mocker looks for wisdom, knowledge comes easy to the intel igent.	6 Az arcátlan keresi a bölcsességet, de meg nem találja, az okosnak azonban a tudás könnyű.
7 Keep wel clear of the fool, you wil not find wise lips there.	7 Lépj a balga ember elé, és nem ismeri fel az okos ajkat!
8 With people of discretion, wisdom keeps a watch over their conduct, but the fol y of fools leads themastray.	8 A tapasztalt ember bölcsessége: vigyázni az útjára, a balgákat pedig bolondságuk tévútra vezeti.
9 Fools mock at the sacrifice for sin, but favour resides among the honest.	9 Az ostoba csúfot űz a bűnből, az igazak között pedig kegyelem lakozik.
10 The heart knows its own grief best, nor can a stranger share its joy.	10 Amely szív ismeri saját bánatát, annak örömébe nem vegyül hivalkodás.
11 The house of the wicked wil be destroyed, the tent of the honest wil prosper.	11 A gonoszok háza elpusztul, az igazak sátra pedig virul.
12 There are ways that some think straight, but they lead in the end to death.	12 Van út, amely az ember előtt helyesnek látszik, de a vége halálba vezet.
13 Even in laughter the heart finds sadness, and joy makes way for sorrow.	13 Móka közben is fájhat a szív, s az öröm vége búslakodás lehet.
14 The miscreant wil reap the reward of his conduct, and the good the reward of his deeds.	14 Az esztelen jóllakik útjával, éppúgy a jámbor is azzal, amit cselekedett.
15 The simpleton believes any message, a person of discretion treads a careful path.	15 Az együgyű minden beszédnek hitelt ad, az élelmes azonban megfontolja lépteit. Az álnok fiú semmi jót nem várhat, az okos szolga tetteit azonban szerencse kíséri, és útja egyenes lesz.
16 The wise fears evil and avoids it, the fool is insolent and conceited.	16 A bölcs fél és kerüli a rosszat, a balga pedig nemtörődöm és elbizakodott.
17 A quick-tempered person commits rash acts, but a schemer is detestable.	17 A türelmetlen balgaságot művel, az ármánykodó pedig gyűlöletes.
18 Simpletons have folly for their portion, people of discretion knowledge for their crown.	18 Az együgyűeknek balgaság a birtokrészük, a tapasztaltak pedig bölcsességgel koronázzák magukat.
19 The evil bow down before the good, the wicked, at the gates of the upright.	19 A gonoszok meghajolnak majd a jók előtt, s az istentelenek az igazak kapuja előtt.
20 The poor is detestable even to a friend, but many are they who love someone rich.	20 A szegény még barátjának sem kell, a gazdagot ellenben sokan kedvelik.
21 One who despises the needy is at fault, one who takes pity on the poor is blessed.	21 Aki megveti szűkölködő társát, vétkezik, de boldog, aki a szegényen megkönyörül! Aki hisz az Úrban, szereti az irgalmasságot.
22 Plan evil -- isn't this to go astray? Those who plan for good can earn faithful love and constancy.	22 Akik gonoszt cselekszenek, tévelyegnek, az irgalom és igazság azonban jót terem.
23 Hard work always yields its profit, idle talk brings only want.	23 Minden fáradságnak megvan az eredménye, de az üres szóbeszéd csak ínségre vezet.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the fol y of fools is folly.	24 A bölcsek koronája a gazdagságuk, a balgák koszorúja a bolondságuk.
25 A truthful witness saves lives, whoever utters lies is a deceiver.	25 A megbízható tanú életet ment, a csalárd pedig hazugságot kohol.
26 In the fear of Yahweh is powerful security; for his children he is a refuge.	26 Az Úr félelmében van az erős bizodalma, és fiainak ő lesz a reménye.
27 The fear of Yahweh is a life-giving spring for eluding the snares of death.	27 Az Úr félelme élet forrása, amely halálos csapdától távol tart.
28 Large population, monarch's glory; dwindling population, ruler's ruin.	28 A király díszére válik, ha népe számos, a nép hiánya a fejedelem romlása.
29 Mastery of temper is high proof of intel igence, a quick temper makes fol y worse than ever.	29 Aki türtőzteti magát, annak nagy a belátása, aki pedig hirtelen, mutatja nagy balgaságát.
30 The life of the body is a tranquil heart, but envy is a cancer in the bones.	30 A nyugodt kedély a testnek is épség, a szenvedély azonban szú a csontban.
31 To oppress the weak insults the Creator, kindness to the needy honours the Creator.	31 Aki elnyomja a szegényt, gyalázattal illeti annak Teremtőjét, de tiszteletben tartja őt, aki megszánja a szűkölködőt.
32 For evil-doing, the wicked wil be flung headlong, but in integrity the upright wil find refuge.	32 A bűnös elbukik gonoszságában, az igaz pedig még halálában is bizakodik.
33 Wisdom resides in an understanding heart; she is not to be found in the hearts of fools.	33 Az okos szívében bölcsesség lakozik, és bármely tudatlant megtanít.
34 Uprightness makes a nation great, by sin whole races are disgraced.	34 Az erény magasra emeli a nemzetet, a bűn pedig szegényekké teszi a népeket.
35 A king shows favour to a wise minister, but anger to one who shames him.	35 Az okos szolga kedves a királynál, a haszontalan pedig haragját viseli.
