Proverbs 14

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Wisdom builds herself a house; with her own hands Folly pul s it down.	1 A senhora Sabedoria edifica sua casa; a senhora Loucura destrói a sua com as próprias mãos.
2 Whoever keeps to an honest course fears Yahweh, whoever deserts his paths shows contempt forhim.	2 Quem caminha direito teme o Senhor; o que anda desviado o despreza.
3 Pride sprouts in the mouth of the fool, the lips of the wise keep them safe.	3 A boca do néscio encerra a vara para seu orgulho, mas os lábios do sábio são uma proteção para si mesmo.
4 No oxen, empty manger; strong bul , much cash.	4 Onde não há bois, a manjedoura está vazia; a abundância da colheita provém da força do gado.
5 The truthful witness tells no lies, the false witness lies with every breath.	5 A testemunha fiel não mente; a testemunha falsa profere falsidades.
6 In vain the mocker looks for wisdom, knowledge comes easy to the intel igent.	6 O mofador busca a sabedoria, mas em vão; ao homem entendido a ciência é fácil.
7 Keep wel clear of the fool, you wil not find wise lips there.	7 Afasta-te da presença do tolo: em seus lábios não encontrarás palavras sábias.
8 With people of discretion, wisdom keeps a watch over their conduct, but the fol y of fools leads themastray.	8 A sabedoria do prudente está no cuidar do seu procedimento; a loucura dos insensatos consiste na fraude.
9 Fools mock at the sacrifice for sin, but favour resides among the honest.	9 O insensato zomba do pecado; a benevolência {de Deus} é para os homens retos.
10 The heart knows its own grief best, nor can a stranger share its joy.	10 O coração conhece suas próprias amarguras; o estranho não pode partilhar de sua alegria.
11 The house of the wicked wil be destroyed, the tent of the honest wil prosper.	11 A habitação dos pérfidos será destruída, mas a tenda dos justos florescerá.
12 There are ways that some think straight, but they lead in the end to death.	12 Há caminho que parece reto ao homem; seu fim, porém, é o caminho da morte.
13 Even in laughter the heart finds sadness, and joy makes way for sorrow.	13 Mesmo no sorrir, o coração pode estar triste; a alegria pode findar na aflição.
14 The miscreant wil reap the reward of his conduct, and the good the reward of his deeds.	14 O extraviado será saciado com seus próprios erros; o homem de bem, com seus atos.
15 The simpleton believes any message, a person of discretion treads a careful path.	15 O ingênuo acredita em tudo o que se diz; o prudente vigia seus passos.
16 The wise fears evil and avoids it, the fool is insolent and conceited.	16 O sábio teme o mal e dele se aparta, mas o insensato que se eleva dá-se por seguro.
17 A quick-tempered person commits rash acts, but a schemer is detestable.	17 O homem violento comete loucura; o dissimulado atrai a si o ódio.
18 Simpletons have folly for their portion, people of discretion knowledge for their crown.	18 Os ingênuos têm por herança a loucura; os prudentes, a ciência como coroa.
19 The evil bow down before the good, the wicked, at the gates of the upright.	19 Diante dos bons humilham-se os maus e os ímpios ante as portas do justo.
20 The poor is detestable even to a friend, but many are they who love someone rich.	20 Até mesmo ao seu companheiro o pobre é odioso; numerosos são os amigos do rico.
21 One who despises the needy is at fault, one who takes pity on the poor is blessed.	21 Quem despreza seu próximo comete um pecado; feliz aquele que tem compaixão dos desgraçados.
22 Plan evil -- isn't this to go astray? Those who plan for good can earn faithful love and constancy.	22 Porventura não erram os que maquinam o mal? Os que planejam o bem adquirem favor e verdade.
23 Hard work always yields its profit, idle talk brings only want.	23 Para todo esforço há fruto, muito palavrório só produz penúria.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the fol y of fools is folly.	24 Para o sábio a riqueza é uma coroa. A loucura dos insensatos permanece loucura.
25 A truthful witness saves lives, whoever utters lies is a deceiver.	25 A testemunha fiel salva vidas; o que profere mentiras é falso.
26 In the fear of Yahweh is powerful security; for his children he is a refuge.	26 No temor do Senhor {o justo} encontra apoio sólido; seus filhos nele encontrarão abrigo.
27 The fear of Yahweh is a life-giving spring for eluding the snares of death.	27 O temor do Senhor é uma fonte de vida para escapar aos laços da morte.
28 Large population, monarch's glory; dwindling population, ruler's ruin.	28 A multidão do povo é a glória de um rei; a falta de população é a ruína de um príncipe.
29 Mastery of temper is high proof of intel igence, a quick temper makes fol y worse than ever.	29 O paciente dá prova de bom senso; quem se arrebata rapidamente manifesta sua loucura.
30 The life of the body is a tranquil heart, but envy is a cancer in the bones.	30 Um coração tranqüilo é a vida do corpo, enquanto a inveja é a cárie dos ossos.
31 To oppress the weak insults the Creator, kindness to the needy honours the Creator.	31 O opressor do pobre ultraja seu criador, mas honra-o o que se compadece do indigente.
32 For evil-doing, the wicked wil be flung headlong, but in integrity the upright wil find refuge.	32 É por causa de sua própria malícia que cai o ímpio; o justo, porém, até na morte conserva a confiança.
33 Wisdom resides in an understanding heart; she is not to be found in the hearts of fools.	33 No coração do prudente repousa a sabedoria. Entre os tolos ela se fará conhecer?
34 Uprightness makes a nation great, by sin whole races are disgraced.	34 A justiça enaltece uma nação; o pecado é a vergonha dos povos.
35 A king shows favour to a wise minister, but anger to one who shames him.	35 O servidor inteligente goza do favor do rei, mas a sua ira fere o desonrado.
