Proverbs 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Wisdom builds herself a house; with her own hands Folly pul s it down.	1 La sapienza costruisce la sua casa, la stoltezza con le proprie mani la distrugge.
2 Whoever keeps to an honest course fears Yahweh, whoever deserts his paths shows contempt forhim.	2 Chi cammina nella sua rettitudine ha il timor di Dio, chi perverte la sua strada lo disprezza.
3 Pride sprouts in the mouth of the fool, the lips of the wise keep them safe.	3 Nella bocca dello stolto c'è un germoglio di superbia, le labbra dei saggi li custodiscono.
4 No oxen, empty manger; strong bul , much cash.	4 Se non ci sono buoi la greppia è vuota, nella forza del giovenco c'è abbondanza di prodotti.
5 The truthful witness tells no lies, the false witness lies with every breath.	5 Un testimonio verace non mentisce, un falso testimonio esala falsità.
6 In vain the mocker looks for wisdom, knowledge comes easy to the intel igent.	6 Cerca la sapienza l'insolente, ma invano, per l'intelligente, la sapienza è cosa facile.
7 Keep wel clear of the fool, you wil not find wise lips there.	7 Guarda di star lontano dall'insipiente, perché non vi troverai labbra sapienti.
8 With people of discretion, wisdom keeps a watch over their conduct, but the fol y of fools leads themastray.	8 Chi è prudente studia bene la sua strada, ma la follia degli stolti è sbandamento.
9 Fools mock at the sacrifice for sin, but favour resides among the honest.	9 Nelle tende degli insolenti c'è il castigo, nelle case dei giusti c'è la grazia.
10 The heart knows its own grief best, nor can a stranger share its joy.	10 Conosce il cuore la sua propria amarezza e alla sua gioia non s'associa l'estraneo.
11 The house of the wicked wil be destroyed, the tent of the honest wil prosper.	11 La casa degli empi sarà abbattuta, la tenda dei giusti fiorirà.
12 There are ways that some think straight, but they lead in the end to death.	12 Una strada agli occhi dell'uomo par diritta, all'altra estremità però c'è un trabocchetto.
13 Even in laughter the heart finds sadness, and joy makes way for sorrow.	13 Perfino nel riso il cuore si rattrista e la gioia stessa finisce nell'afflizione.
14 The miscreant wil reap the reward of his conduct, and the good the reward of his deeds.	14 Delle sue vie si sazia il traviato, ma l'uomo buono delle sue azioni.
15 The simpleton believes any message, a person of discretion treads a careful path.	15 L'ingenuo crede ad ogni parola, chi è prudente veglia sui suoi passi.
16 The wise fears evil and avoids it, the fool is insolent and conceited.	16 Il saggio teme e sfugge il male, lo stolto va avanti e sta tranquillo.
17 A quick-tempered person commits rash acts, but a schemer is detestable.	17 Chi è pronto all'ira commette ogni stoltezza e l'uomo tenebroso attira l'odio.
18 Simpletons have folly for their portion, people of discretion knowledge for their crown.	18 Gli ingenui hanno in sorte la stoltezza, gli accorti invece si adornano di scienza.
19 The evil bow down before the good, the wicked, at the gates of the upright.	19 I cattivi si inchineranno ai buoni e gli empi davanti alle porte dei giusti.
20 The poor is detestable even to a friend, but many are they who love someone rich.	20 Il povero è odiato anche dal suo simile, ma gli amici del ricco sono molti.
21 One who despises the needy is at fault, one who takes pity on the poor is blessed.	21 Chi disprezza il suo prossimo fa peccato, ma chi ha pietà dei miseri è beato.
22 Plan evil -- isn't this to go astray? Those who plan for good can earn faithful love and constancy.	22 Non traviano forse gli artefici del male? Benevolenza e fedeltà a chi fa il bene.
23 Hard work always yields its profit, idle talk brings only want.	23 In ogni fatica c'è guadagno, solo la parola delle labbra porta all'indigenza.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the fol y of fools is folly.	24 Corona dei saggi è la loro ricchezza, diadema degli stolti è la stoltezza.
25 A truthful witness saves lives, whoever utters lies is a deceiver.	25 Un testimonio veritiero salva molti, chi dice menzogne è una rovina.
26 In the fear of Yahweh is powerful security; for his children he is a refuge.	26 Nel timore del Signore c'è un sicuro rifugio e per i suoi figli egli è riparo.
27 The fear of Yahweh is a life-giving spring for eluding the snares of death.	27 Il timore del Signore è sorgente di vita per sfuggire ai lacci della morte.
28 Large population, monarch's glory; dwindling population, ruler's ruin.	28 L'onore del re sta nella moltitudine del popolo, carenza di popolo è rovina del principe.
29 Mastery of temper is high proof of intel igence, a quick temper makes fol y worse than ever.	29 Chi è lento alla collera ha molta intelligenza, chi è facile a infiammarsi mostra stoltezza.
30 The life of the body is a tranquil heart, but envy is a cancer in the bones.	30 Vita dei corpi è un cuore benigno, l'invidia è tarlo delle ossa.
31 To oppress the weak insults the Creator, kindness to the needy honours the Creator.	31 Chi opprime il povero disonora il suo Creatore, lo glorifica chi ha pietà dell'umile.
32 For evil-doing, the wicked wil be flung headlong, but in integrity the upright wil find refuge.	32 Dalla sua malizia è rovinato l'empio, ma pur nella sua morte il giusto è fiducioso.
33 Wisdom resides in an understanding heart; she is not to be found in the hearts of fools.	33 Nel cuore intelligente risiede la sapienza, ma non si conoscerà nel seno degli stolti.
34 Uprightness makes a nation great, by sin whole races are disgraced.	34 La giustizia innalza una nazione, vergogna per i popoli è il peccato.
35 A king shows favour to a wise minister, but anger to one who shames him.	35 Il re si compiace d'un servo intelligente, la sua collera è per chi lo disonora.
