Psalms 33

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 Shout for joy, you upright; praise comes wel from the honest.	1 Exsultate, iusti, in Domino; rectos decet collaudatio.
2 Give thanks to Yahweh on the lyre, play for him on the ten-stringed lyre.	2 Confitemini Domino in cithara, in psalterio decem chordarum psallite illi.
3 Sing to him a new song, make sweet music for your cry of victory.	3 Cantate ei canticum novum, bene psallite ei in vociferatione,
4 The word of Yahweh is straightforward, al he does springs from his constancy.	4 quia rectum est verbum Domini, et omnia opera eius in fide.
5 He loves uprightness and justice; the faithful love of Yahweh fil s the earth.	5 Diligit iustitiam et iudicium; misericordia Domini plena est terra.
6 By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, by the breath of his mouth all their array.	6 Verbo Domini caeli facti sunt, et spiritu oris eius omnis virtus eorum.
7 He collects the waters of the sea like a dam, he stores away the abyss in his treasure-house.	7 Congregans sicut in utre aquas maris, ponens in thesauris abyssos.
8 Let the whole earth fear Yahweh, let al who dwel in the world revere him;	8 Timeat Dominum omnis terra, a facie autem eius formident omnes inhabitantes orbem.
9 for, the moment he spoke, it was so, no sooner had he commanded, than there it stood!	9 Quoniam ipse dixit, et facta sunt, ipse mandavit, et creata sunt.
10 Yahweh thwarts the plans of nations, frustrates the counsels of peoples;	10 Dominus dissipat consilia gentium, irritas facit cogitationes populorum.
11 but Yahweh's own plan stands firm for ever, his heart's counsel from age to age.	11 Consilium autem Domini in aeternum manet, cogitationes cordis eius in generatione et generationem.
12 How blessed the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he has chosen as his heritage.	12 Beata gens, cui Dominus est Deus, populus, quem elegit in hereditatem sibi.
13 From heaven Yahweh looks down, he sees al the children of Adam,	13 De caelo respexit Dominus, vidit omnes filios hominum.
14 from the place where he sits he watches al who dwel on the earth;	14 De loco habitaculi sui respexit super omnes, qui habitant terram,
15 he alone moulds their hearts, he understands al they do.	15 qui finxit singillatim corda eorum, qui intellegit omnia opera eorum.
16 A large army wil not keep a king safe, nor his strength save a warrior's life;	16 Non salvatur rex per multam virtutem, et gigas non liberabitur in multitudine virtutis suae.
17 it is delusion to rely on a horse for safety, for all its power it cannot save.	17 Fallax equus ad salutem, in abundantia autem virtutis suae non salvabit.
18 But see how Yahweh watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his faithful love,	18 Ecce oculi Domini super metuentes eum, in eos, qui sperant super misericordia eius,
19 to rescue them from death and keep them alive in famine.	19 ut eruat a morte animas eorum et alat eos in fame.
20 We are waiting for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield,	20 Anima nostra sustinet Dominum, quoniam adiutor et protector noster est;
21 for in him our heart rejoices, in his holy name we trust.	21 quia in eo laetabitur cor nostrum, et in nomine sancto eius speravimus.
22 Yahweh, let your faithful love rest on us, as our hope has rested in you.	22 Fiat misericordia tua, Domine, super nos, quemadmodum speravimus in te.
