NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 I have seen all this with my own eyes, heard with my own ears and understood.	1 Sì, il mio occhio ha visto tutto questo, il mio orecchio l'ha udito e l'ha compreso.
2 Whatever you know, I know too; I am in no way inferior to you.	2 Ciò che voi sapete, lo so anch'io, non sono da meno di voi.
3 But my words are intended for Shaddai; I mean to remonstrate with God.	3 Però voglio rivolgermi all'Onnipotente, desidero discutere con Dio.
4 As for you, you are only charlatans, all worthless as doctors!	4 Voi invece siete manipolatori di falsità, siete tutti medici da nulla.
5 Wil no one teach you to be quiet -- the only wisdom that becomes you!	5 Oh, se taceste del tutto, sarebbe per voi un atto di sapienza!
6 Kindly listen to my accusation and give your attention to the way I shall plead.	6 Ascoltate, vi prego, la mia difesa, e fate attenzione alla perorazione delle mie labbra.
7 Do you mean to defend God by prevarication and by dishonest argument,	7 Volete forse dire falsità in favore di Dio e per lui parlare con inganno?
8 and, taking his side like this, appoint yourselves as his advocates?	8 Volete prendere il partito di Dio e farvi suoi avvocati?
9 How would you fare, if he were to scrutinise you? Can he be duped as mortals are duped?	9 Sarebbe bene che vi esaminasse, o volete ingannarlo come si inganna un uomo?
10 He would inflict a harsh rebuke on you for your covert partiality.	10 Certamente egli vi riprenderà, se in segreto prendete partito per qualcuno.
11 Does his majesty not affright you? Does his terror not overcome you?	11 La sua maestà non vi spaventa e il terrore di lui non vi assale?
12 Your received ideas are maxims of ash, your retorts, retorts of clay.	12 Le vostre sentenze sono proverbi di cenere, le vostre risposte sono difese d'argilla.
13 Be quiet! Kindly let me do the talking, happen to me what may.	13 Tacete, lasciatemi; ora voglio parlare io, qualunque cosa mi càpiti.
14 I am putting my flesh between my teeth, I am taking my life in my hands;	14 Afferrerò la mia carne con i denti, porrò la mia vita nelle mie mani.
15 let him kill me if he will; I have no other hope than to justify my conduct in his eyes.	15 Certo, mi ucciderà, non ho più speranza; tuttavia difenderò la mia condotta davanti a lui.
16 And this is what wil save me, for the wicked would not dare to appear before him.	16 Già questo sarà per me una vittoria, perché un empio non compare davanti a lui.
17 Listen careful y to my words, and pay attention to what I am going to say.	17 Ascoltate attentamente le mie parole, e il mio discorso giunga ai vostri orecchi.
18 You see, I shal proceed by form of law, knowing that I am upright.	18 Ecco, ho preparato un processo, cosciente di essere innocente.
19 Who wants to contest my case? In advance, I agree to be silenced and to die!	19 Chi dunque vuole contendere con me? Tacere ora sarebbe morire.
20 Only grant me two concessions, and then I shal not hide away from your face:	20 Solo, assicurami queste due cose, e allora non mi nasconderò davanti a te.
21 remove your hand, which lies so heavy on me, no longer make me cower from your terror.	21 Allontana da me la tua mano, e il tuo terrore più non mi spaventi;
22 Then cal me forward and I shal answer, or rather, I shall speak and you wil answer.	22 poi accusami e io risponderò, oppure parlerò io e tu risponderai.
23 How many faults and crimes have I committed? Tell me what my misdeed has been, what my sin?	23 Quante sono le mie colpe e i miei peccati? Fammi conoscere le mie trasgressioni e le mie mancanze!
24 Why do you hide your face and look on me as your enemy?	24 Perché nascondi il tuo volto e mi consideri come un tuo nemico?
25 Do you want to intimidate a wind-blown leaf, do you want to pursue a dry straw?	25 Perché vuoi spaventare una foglia sbattuta dal vento, e ti accanisci contro una paglia secca?
26 You who lay bitter al egations against me and tax me with the faults of my youth	26 Perché tu redigi contro di me amari verdetti e mi imputi le colpe della mia giovinezza?
27 and have put my feet in the stocks; you examine my every step and measure my footprints one byone!	27 Tu poni i miei piedi nei ceppi e sorvegli tutti i miei passi rilevando le impronte dei miei piedi.
28 For his part, he crumbles away like rotten wood, or like a moth-eaten garment,
