Job 13

1 I have seen all this with my own eyes, heard with my own ears and understood.	1 Ecco, tutto questo ha visto il mio occhio, l’ha udito il mio orecchio e l’ha compreso.
2 Whatever you know, I know too; I am in no way inferior to you.	2 Quel che sapete voi, lo so anch’io; non sono da meno di voi.
3 But my words are intended for Shaddai; I mean to remonstrate with God.	3 Ma io all’Onnipotente voglio parlare, con Dio desidero contendere.
4 As for you, you are only charlatans, all worthless as doctors!	4 Voi imbrattate di menzogne, siete tutti medici da nulla.
5 Wil no one teach you to be quiet -- the only wisdom that becomes you!	5 Magari taceste del tutto: sarebbe per voi un atto di sapienza!
6 Kindly listen to my accusation and give your attention to the way I shall plead.	6 Ascoltate dunque la mia replica e alle argomentazioni delle mie labbra fate attenzione.
7 Do you mean to defend God by prevarication and by dishonest argument,	7 Vorreste forse dire il falso in difesa di Dio e in suo favore parlare con inganno?
8 and, taking his side like this, appoint yourselves as his advocates?	8 Vorreste prendere le parti di Dio e farvi suoi avvocati?
9 How would you fare, if he were to scrutinise you? Can he be duped as mortals are duped?	9 Sarebbe bene per voi se egli vi scrutasse? Credete di ingannarlo, come s’inganna un uomo?
10 He would inflict a harsh rebuke on you for your covert partiality.	10 Severamente vi redarguirà, se in segreto sarete parziali.
11 Does his majesty not affright you? Does his terror not overcome you?	11 La sua maestà non vi incute spavento e il terrore di lui non vi assale?
12 Your received ideas are maxims of ash, your retorts, retorts of clay.	12 Sentenze di cenere sono i vostri moniti, baluardi di argilla sono i vostri baluardi.
13 Be quiet! Kindly let me do the talking, happen to me what may.	13 Tacete, state lontani da me: parlerò io, qualunque cosa possa accadermi.
14 I am putting my flesh between my teeth, I am taking my life in my hands;	14 Prenderò la mia carne con i denti e la mia vita porrò sulle mie palme.
15 let him kill me if he will; I have no other hope than to justify my conduct in his eyes.	15 Mi uccida pure, io non aspetterò, ma la mia condotta davanti a lui difenderò!
16 And this is what wil save me, for the wicked would not dare to appear before him.	16 Già questo sarebbe la mia salvezza, perché davanti a lui l’empio non può presentarsi.
17 Listen careful y to my words, and pay attention to what I am going to say.	17 Ascoltate bene le mie parole e il mio discorso entri nei vostri orecchi.
18 You see, I shal proceed by form of law, knowing that I am upright.	18 Ecco, espongo la mia causa, sono convinto che sarò dichiarato innocente.
19 Who wants to contest my case? In advance, I agree to be silenced and to die!	19 Chi vuole contendere con me? Perché allora tacerei e morirei.
20 Only grant me two concessions, and then I shal not hide away from your face:	20 Fammi solo due cose e allora non mi sottrarrò alla tua presenza:
21 remove your hand, which lies so heavy on me, no longer make me cower from your terror.	21 allontana da me la tua mano e il tuo terrore più non mi spaventi.
22 Then cal me forward and I shal answer, or rather, I shall speak and you wil answer.	22 Interrogami pure e io risponderò, oppure parlerò io e tu ribatterai.
23 How many faults and crimes have I committed? Tell me what my misdeed has been, what my sin?	23 Quante sono le mie colpe e i miei peccati? Fammi conoscere il mio delitto e il mio peccato.
24 Why do you hide your face and look on me as your enemy?	24 Perché mi nascondi la tua faccia e mi consideri come un nemico?
25 Do you want to intimidate a wind-blown leaf, do you want to pursue a dry straw?	25 Vuoi spaventare una foglia dispersa dal vento e dare la caccia a una paglia secca?
26 You who lay bitter al egations against me and tax me with the faults of my youth	26 Tu scrivi infatti contro di me sentenze amare e su di me fai ricadere i miei errori giovanili;
27 and have put my feet in the stocks; you examine my every step and measure my footprints one byone!	27 tu poni in ceppi i miei piedi, vai spiando tutti i miei passi e rilevi le orme dei miei piedi.
28 For his part, he crumbles away like rotten wood, or like a moth-eaten garment,	28 Intanto l’uomo si consuma come legno tarlato o come un vestito corroso da tignola.
