1 These are the descendants of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, to whom sons were born afterthe flood:1 Hæ sunt generationes filiorum Noë, Sem, Cham et Japheth : natique sunt eis filii post diluvium.
2 Japheth's sons: Gomer, Magog, the Medes, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, Tiras.2 Filii Japheth : Gomer, et Magog, et Madai, et Javan, et Thubal, et Mosoch, et Thiras.
3 Gomer's sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, Togarmah.3 Porro filii Gomer : Ascenez et Riphath et Thogorma.
4 Javan's sons: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim, the Dananites.4 Filii autem Javan : Elisa et Tharsis, Cetthim et Dodanim.
5 From these came the dispersal to the islands of the nations. These were Japheth's sons, in theirrespective countries, each with its own language, by clan and nation.5 Ab his divisæ sunt insulæ gentium in regionibus suis, unusquisque secundum linguam suam et familias suas in nationibus suis.
6 Ham's sons: Cush, Mizraim, Put, Canaan.6 Filii autem Cham : Chus, et Mesraim, et Phuth, et Chanaan.
7 Cush's sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, Sabteca. Raamah's sons: Sheba, Dedan.7 Filii Chus : Saba, et Hevila, et Sabatha, et Regma, et Sabatacha. Filii Regma : Saba et Dadan.
8 Cush fathered Nimrod who was the first potentate on earth.8 Porro Chus genuit Nemrod : ipse c?pit esse potens in terra,
9 He was a mighty hunter in the eyes of Yahweh, hence the saying, 'Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter in theeyes of Yahweh'.9 et erat robustus venator coram Domino. Ob hoc exivit proverbium : Quasi Nemrod robustus venator coram Domino.
10 The mainstays of his empire were Babel, Erech and Accad, all of them in the land of Shinar.10 Fuit autem principium regni ejus Babylon, et Arach et Achad, et Chalanne, in terra Sennaar.
11 From this country came Asshur, and he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,11 De terra illa egressus est Assur, et ædificavit Niniven, et plateas civitatis, et Chale.
12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (this being the capital).12 Resen quoque inter Niniven et Chale : hæc est civitas magna.
13 Mizraim fathered the people of Lud, of Anam, Lehab, Naphtuh,13 At vero Mesraim genuit Ludim, et Anamim et Laabim, Nephthuim,
14 Pathros, Casluh and Caphtor, from which the Philistines came.14 et Phetrusim, et Chasluim : de quibus egressi sunt Philisthiim et Caphtorim.
15 Canaan fathered Sidon, his first-born, then Heth,15 Chanaan autem genuit Sidonem primogenitum suum. Hethæum,
16 and the Jebusites, the Amorites, Girgashites,16 et Jebusæum, et Amorrhæum, Gergesæum,
17 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,17 Hevæum, et Aracæum : Sinæum,
18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later, the Canaanite clans spread out.18 et Aradium, Samaræum, et Amathæum : et post hæc disseminati sunt populi Chananæorum.
19 The Canaanite frontier stretched from Sidon al the way to Gerar near Gaza, and al the way toSodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboi m near Lesha.19 Factique sunt termini Chanaan venientibus a Sidone Geraram usque Gazam, donec ingrediaris Sodomam et Gomorrham, et Adamam, et Seboim usque Lesa.
20 These were Ham's sons, by clans and languages, by countries and nations.20 Hi sunt filii Cham in cognationibus, et linguis, et generationibus, terrisque et gentibus suis.
21 Shem too fathered sons, being ancestor of all the sons of Eber and Japheth's elder brother.21 De Sem quoque nati sunt, patre omnium filiorum Heber, fratre Japheth majore.
22 Shem's sons: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, Aram.22 Filii Sem : Ælam, et Assur, et Arphaxad, et Lud, et Aram.
23 Aram's sons: Uz, Hul, Gether and Mash.23 Filii Aram : Us, et Hul, et Gether, et Mes.
24 Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.24 At vero Arphaxad genuit Sale, de quo ortus est Heber.
25 To Eber were born two sons: the first was cal ed Peleg, because it was in his time that the earth wasdivided, and his brother was called Joktan.25 Natique sunt Heber filii duo : nomen uni Phaleg, eo quod in diebus ejus divisa sit terra : et nomen fratris ejus Jectan.
26 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,26 Qui Jectan genuit Elmodad, et Saleph, et Asarmoth, Jare,
27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,27 et Aduram, et Uzal, et Decla,
28 Obal, Abima-El, Sheba,28 et Ebal, et Abimaël, Saba,
29 Ophir, Havilah, Jobab; al these were sons of Joktan.29 et Ophir, et Hevila, et Jobab : omnes isti, filii Jectan.
30 They occupied a stretch of country from Mesha all the way to Sephar, the eastern mountain range.30 Et facta est habitatio eorum de Messa pergentibus usque Sephar montem orientalem.
31 These were Shem's sons, by clans and languages, by countries and nations.31 Isti filii Sem secundum cognationes, et linguas, et regiones in gentibus suis.
32 Such were the clans of Noah's descendants, listed by descent and nation. From them, other nationsbranched out on earth after the flood.32 Hæ familiæ Noë juxta populos et nationes suas. Ab his divisæ sunt gentes in terra post diluvium.
