For the leader; according to "Lilies." Eduth. A psalm of Asaph. | 1 Unto the end. For the wine and oil presses. A Psalm of Asaph himself. |
Shepherd of Israel, listen, guide of the flock of Joseph! From your throne upon the cherubim reveal yourself | 2 Exult before God our helper. Sing joyfully to the God of Jacob. |
to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Stir up your power, come to save us. | 3 Take up a psalm, and bring forth the timbrel: a pleasing Psalter with stringed instruments. |
O LORD of hosts, restore us; Let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved. | 4 Sound the trumpet at the new moon, on the noteworthy day of your solemnity, |
LORD of hosts, how long will you burn with anger while your people pray? | 5 for it is a precept in Israel and a judgment for the God of Jacob. |
You have fed them the bread of tears, made them drink tears in abundance. | 6 He set it as a testimony with Joseph, when he went out of the land of Egypt. He heard a tongue that he did not know. |
You have left us to be fought over by our neighbors; our enemies deride us. | 7 He turned the burdens away from his back. His hands had been a slave to baskets. |
O LORD of hosts, restore us; let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved. | 8 You called upon me in tribulation, and I freed you. I heard you within the hidden tempest. I tested you with waters of contradiction. |
You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove away the nations and planted it. | 9 My people, listen and I will call you to testify. If, O Israel, you will pay heed to me, |
You cleared the ground; it took root and filled the land. | 10 then there will be no new god among you, nor will you adore a foreign god. |
The mountains were covered by its shadow, the cedars of God by its branches. | 11 For I am the Lord your God, who led you out of the land of Egypt. Widen your mouth, and I will fill it. |
It sent out boughs as far as the sea, shoots as far as the river. | 12 But my people did not hear my voice, and Israel was not attentive to me. |
Why have you broken down the walls, so that all who pass by pluck its fruit? | 13 And so, I sent them away, according to the desires of their heart. They will go forth according to their own inventions. |
The boar from the forest strips the vine; the beast of the field feeds upon it. | 14 If my people had heard me, if Israel had walked in my ways, |
Turn again, LORD of hosts; look down from heaven and see; Attend to this vine, | 15 I would have humbled their enemies, as if it were nothing, and I would have sent my hand upon those who troubled them. |
the shoot your right hand has planted. | 16 The enemies of the Lord have lied to him, and their time will come, in every age. |
Those who would burn or cut it down-- may they perish at your rebuke. | 17 And he fed them from the fat of the grain, and he saturated them with honey from the rock. |
May your help be with the man at your right hand, with the one whom you once made strong.
Then we will not withdraw from you; revive us, and we will call on your name.
LORD of hosts, restore us; let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved. |
