1 Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, who is good, whose love endures forever.	1 Lodate il Signore, poiché è buono, poiché in eterno è la sua misericordia.
2 Who can tell the mighty deeds of the LORD, proclaim in full God's praise?	2 Chi può narrare le gesta del Signore e far risuonare tutta la sua lode?
3 Happy those who do what is right, whose deeds are always just.	3 Beati quelli che osservano il diritto e agiscono con giustizia in ogni tempo.
4 Remember me, LORD, as you favor your people; come to me with your saving help,	4 Ricòrdati di noi, o Signore, per amore del tuo popolo, vìsitaci con la tua salvezza,
5 That I may see the prosperity of your chosen, rejoice in the joy of your people, and glory with your heritage.	5 affinché vediamo la felicità dei tuoi eletti, ci rallegriamo della gioia del tuo popolo e ci gloriamo con la tua eredità.
6 We have sinned like our ancestors; we have done wrong and are guilty.	6 Abbiamo peccato, come i nostri padri; abbiamo operato il male, abbiamo agito con empietà.
7 Our ancestors in Egypt did not attend to your wonders. They did not remember your great love; they defied the Most High at the Red Sea.	7 I nostri padri in Egitto non compresero i tuoi prodigi; non si ricordarono di tanti tuoi benefici; si ribellarono contro l'Eccelso presso il Mar Rosso.
8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake to make his power known.	8 Ma Dio li salvò in grazia del suo nome, per rendere manifesta la sua potenza.
9 He roared at the Red Sea and it dried up. He led them through the deep as through a desert.	9 Minacciò il Mar Rosso e si seccò; li condusse negli abissi, come in un deserto.
10 He rescued them from hostile hands, freed them from the power of the enemy.	10 Li strappò dal potere di chi li odiava, li riscattò dal potere del nemico.
11 The waters covered their oppressors; not one of them survived.	11 Le acque sommersero i loro avversari, non sopravvisse di loro neppure uno.
12 Then they believed his words and sang songs of praise.	12 Allora credettero alle sue parole, e cantarono la sua lode.
13 But they soon forgot all he had done; they had no patience for his plan.	13 Ma dimenticarono presto le sue opere, non prestarono fede al suo disegno.
14 In the desert they gave way to their cravings, tempted God in the wasteland.	14 Si accesero le loro brame nel deserto, e tentarono Dio nella steppa.
15 So he gave them what they asked and sent among them a wasting disease.	15 Ed egli concesse quanto chiedevano e soddisfece la loro ingordigia.
16 In the camp they challenged Moses and Aaron, the holy one of the LORD.	16 Si mostrarono gelosi contro Mosè negli accampamenti, contro Aronne, il santo del Signore.
17 The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, it closed on the followers of Abiram.	17 Allora si aprì la terra e inghiottì Datan, e seppellì il gruppo di Abiram.
18 Against that company the fire blazed; flames consumed the wicked.	18 Divampò il fuoco nella sua fazione, e la fiamma divorò i ribelli.
19 At Horeb they fashioned a calf, worshiped a metal statue.	19 Fecero un vitello sull'Oreb e si prostrarono davanti a un metallo fuso;
20 They exchanged their glorious God for the image of a grass-eating bull.	20 scambiarono la loro gloria con la figura di un toro che mangia fieno.
21 They forgot the God who saved them, who did great deeds in Egypt,	21 Si erano dimenticati di Dio che li aveva salvati, che aveva operato in Egitto cose grandi:
22 Amazing deeds in the land of Ham, fearsome deeds at the Red Sea.	22 prodigi nella terra di Cam, portenti presso il Mar Rosso.
23 He would have decreed their destruction, had not Moses, the chosen leader, Withstood him in the breach to turn back his destroying anger.	23 Allora pensò di sterminarli, se Mosè, suo eletto, non si fosse eretto sulla breccia, davanti a lui, per stornare la sua ira dallo sterminio.
24 Next they despised the beautiful land; they did not believe the promise.	24 Rifiutarono un paese delizioso, non credettero alla sua parola.
25 In their tents they complained; they did not obey the LORD.	25 Mormorarono nelle loro tende, non diedero ascolto alla voce del Signore.
26 So with raised hand he swore to destroy them in the desert,	26 Allora egli alzò su di loro la mano che li avrebbe abbattuti nel deserto
27 To scatter their descendants among the nations, disperse them in foreign lands.	27 e avrebbe disperso fra le genti la loro progenie, li avrebbe disseminati per le regioni.
28 They joined in the rites of Baal of Peor, ate food sacrificed to dead gods.	28 Si asservirono a Baal di Peor, mangiarono sacrifici di morti.
29 They provoked him by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.	29 Lo provocarono con le loro azioni e scoppiò fra essi una pestilenza.
30 Then Phinehas rose to intervene, and the plague was brought to a halt.	30 Intervenne Finees e agì da giudice e cessò la pestilenza;
31 This was counted for him as a righteous deed for all generations to come.	31 ciò gli fu imputato a giustizia, di generazione in generazione, per sempre.
32 At the waters of Meribah they angered God, and Moses suffered because of them.	32 Lo irritarono presso le acque di Meriba e fu punito Mosè per causa loro;
33 They so embittered his spirit that rash words crossed his lips.	33 poiché avevano amareggiato il suo animo e disse cose insensate con la sua bocca.
34 They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them,	34 Non sterminarono i popoli, come aveva loro ordinato il Signore,
35 But mingled with the nations and imitated their ways.	35 si mescolarono con le nazioni e appresero a compiere le loro opere;
36 They worshiped their idols and were ensnared by them.	36 prestarono culto ai loro idoli che diventarono per loro un tranello.
37 They sacrificed to the gods their own sons and daughters,	37 Immolarono i loro figli e le loro figlie ai falsi dèi.
38 Shedding innocent blood, the blood of their own sons and daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, desecrating the land with bloodshed.	38 Versarono il sangue innocente, il sangue dei loro figli e figlie che immolarono agli idoli di Canaan, e fu profanata la terra con delitti di sangue.
39 They defiled themselves by their actions, became adulterers by their conduct.	39 Si resero impuri con le loro azioni e si prostituirono con i loro misfatti.
40 So the LORD grew angry with his people, abhorred his own heritage.	40 Allora scoppiò l'ira del Signore contro il suo popolo ed ebbe in orrore la sua eredità.
41 He handed them over to the nations, and their adversaries ruled them.	41 Li consegnò in potere delle genti e li dominarono i loro avversari;
42 Their enemies oppressed them, kept them under subjection.	42 li oppressero i loro nemici e dovettero piegarsi sotto il loro dominio.
43 Many times did he rescue them, but they kept rebelling and scheming and were brought low by their own guilt.	43 Molte volte li aveva salvati, ma essi si ostinarono nei loro disegni e furono abbattuti per le loro iniquità.
44 Still God had regard for their affliction when he heard their wailing.	44 Allora Dio guardò con favore sulla loro sventura, quando udì la loro implorazione.
45 For their sake he remembered his covenant and relented in his abundant love,	45 Si ricordò della sua alleanza e si mosse a pietà di loro per la sua grande misericordia;
46 Winning for them compassion from all who held them captive.	46 fece sì che trovassero favore presso coloro che li avevano deportati.
47 Save us, LORD, our God; gather us from among the nations That we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in praising you.	47 Salvaci, Signore nostro Dio, e radunaci dalle nazioni, perché possiamo lodare il tuo santo nome e allietarci della tua lode.
48 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Let all the people say, Amen! Hallelujah!	48 Benedetto il Signore, Dio d'Israele, da sempre e per sempre. E dirà tutto il popolo: Amen! Alleluia.
