¹ Why, LORD, do you stand at a distance and pay no heed to these troubled times?	¹ Perché, Jahvè, ti tieni lontano, ti celi nei tempi d’angustia?
² Arrogant scoundrels pursue the poor; they trap them by their cunning schemes.	² In orgoglio l’empio insegue il misero; lo coglie nella trama che ha ordito.
³ The wicked even boast of their greed; these robbers curse and scorn the LORD.	³ Perché si vanta l’empio della sua brama; lo strozzino si congratula fra sé. Sprezza Jahvè,
⁴ In their insolence the wicked boast: "God doesn't care, doesn't even exist."	⁴ l’empio, con alta arroganza: «Non vendicherà! Non c’è Dio». Ecco tutti i suoi piani,
⁵ Yet their affairs always succeed; they ignore your judgment on high; they sneer at all who oppose them.	⁵ riescono le sue strade in ogni tempo. Svoltano i tuoi giudizi al suo cospetto; tutti i suoi avversari li soffia via.
⁶ They say in their hearts, "We will never fall; never will we see misfortune."	⁶ Disse nel suo cuore: «Non vacillerò! In generazione e generazione vado diritto senza disgrazie».
⁷ Their mouths are full of oaths, violence, and lies; discord and evil are under their tongues.	⁷ La sua bocca è ripiena di maledizione e di frodi e di violenza, sotto la sua lingua sta molestia e malizia.
⁸ They wait in ambush near towns; their eyes watch for the helpless. to murder the innocent in secret.	⁸ Si pone in agguato presso i villaggi,di nascosto, per trafiggere l’innocente. I suoi occhi spiano il debole,
⁹ They lurk in ambush like lions in a thicket, hide there to trap the poor, snare them and close the net.	⁹ insidia per depredare il misero. Insidia di nascosto come leone dentro la sua macchia, depreda il misero attirandolo nella sua rete,
¹⁰ The helpless are crushed, laid low; they fall into the power of the wicked,	¹⁰ balzando si china, si piega; e piomba con tutta la sua forza sui miseri,
¹¹ Who say in their hearts, "God pays no attention, shows no concern, never bothers to look."	¹¹ Dice nel suo cuore: «Dio s’è scordato, ha nascosto la sua faccia e più non guarda».
¹² Rise up, LORD God! Raise your arm! Do not forget the poor!	¹² Sorgi, Jahvè, Dio, leva la tua mano, non dimenticarti dei miseri.
¹³ Why should the wicked scorn God, say in their hearts, "God doesn't care"?	¹³ Perché l'empio dovrà sprezzare Dio, e dire nel suo cuore: «Non vendichera ».
¹⁴ But you do see; you do observe this misery and sorrow; you take the matter in hand. To you the helpless can entrust their cause; you are the defender of orphans.	¹⁴ Vedi, proprio tu, l’iniquità e la molestia; considera, per ripagare di tua mano. Su te si affida il povero e l’orfano; tu sei l’aiuto.
¹⁵ Break the arms of the wicked and depraved; make them account for their crimes; let none of them survive.	¹⁵ Spezza il braccio dell’empio e del malvagio, punisci la sua empietà, più non ne resti.
¹⁶ The LORD is king forever; the nations have vanished from God's land.	¹⁶ Jahvè regna in eterno e sempre; periscono le genti dalla sua terra,
¹⁷ You listen, LORD, to the needs of the poor; you encourage them and hear their prayers.	¹⁷ La brama dei miseri tu ascolti, Jahvè, al proposito del loro cuore tu porgi il tuo orecchio.
¹⁸ You win justice for the orphaned and oppressed; no one on earth will cause terror again.	¹⁸ Per far giustizia all’orfano e all’oppresso, più non incuterà terrore un mortale sulla terra.
