NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 Why, LORD, do you stand at a distance and pay no heed to these troubled times?1 (Vg 9, 22-39) LAMED. Ut quid, Domine, stas a longe,
abscondis te in opportunitatibus, in tribulatione?
2 Arrogant scoundrels pursue the poor; they trap them by their cunning schemes.2 Dum superbit, impius insequitur pauperem;
comprehendantur in consiliis, quae cogitant.
3 The wicked even boast of their greed; these robbers curse and scorn the LORD.3 Quoniam gloriatur peccator in desideriis animae suae,
et avarus sibi benedicit.
4 In their insolence the wicked boast: "God doesn't care, doesn't even exist."4 NUN. Spernit Dominum peccator in arrogantia sua:
“ Non requiret; non est Deus ”.
5 Yet their affairs always succeed; they ignore your judgment on high; they sneer at all who oppose them.5 Hae sunt omnes cogitationes eius;
prosperantur viae illius in omni tempore.
Excelsa nimis iudicia tua a facie eius;
omnes inimicos suos aspernatur.
6 They say in their hearts, "We will never fall; never will we see misfortune."6 Dixit enim in corde suo: “ Non movebor;
in generationem et generationem ero sine malo ”.
7 Their mouths are full of oaths, violence, and lies; discord and evil are under their tongues.7 PHE. Cuius maledictione os plenum est et fraudulentia et dolo,
sub lingua eius labor et nequitia.
8 They wait in ambush near towns; their eyes watch for the helpless. to murder the innocent in secret.8 Sedet in insidiis ad vicos,
in occultis interficit innocentem.
9 They lurk in ambush like lions in a thicket, hide there to trap the poor, snare them and close the net.9 SADE. Oculi eius in pauperem respiciunt;
insidiatur in abscondito quasi leo in spelunca sua.
Insidiatur, ut rapiat pauperem;
rapit pauperem, dum attrahit in laqueum suum.
10 The helpless are crushed, laid low; they fall into the power of the wicked,10 Irruit et inclinat se, et miseri cadunt
in fortitudine brachiorum eius.
11 Who say in their hearts, "God pays no attention, shows no concern, never bothers to look."11 Dixit enim in corde suo: “ Oblitus est Deus;
avertit faciem suam, non videbit in finem ”. -
12 Rise up, LORD God! Raise your arm! Do not forget the poor!12 COPH. Exsurge, Domine Deus, exalta manum tuam,
ne obliviscaris pauperum.
13 Why should the wicked scorn God, say in their hearts, "God doesn't care"?13 Propter quid spernit impius Deum?
Dixit enim in corde suo: “ Non requires ”.
14 But you do see; you do observe this misery and sorrow; you take the matter in hand. To you the helpless can entrust their cause; you are the defender of orphans.14 RES. Vidisti: tu laborem et dolorem consideras,
ut tradas eos in manus tuas.
Tibi derelictus est pauper,
orphano tu factus es adiutor.
15 Break the arms of the wicked and depraved; make them account for their crimes; let none of them survive.15 SIN. Contere brachium peccatoris et maligni;
quaeres peccatum illius et non invenies.
16 The LORD is king forever; the nations have vanished from God's land.16 Dominus rex in aeternum et in saeculum saeculi:
perierunt gentes de terra illius.
17 You listen, LORD, to the needs of the poor; you encourage them and hear their prayers.17 TAU. Desiderium pauperum exaudisti, Domine;
confirmabis cor eorum, intendes aurem tuam
18 You win justice for the orphaned and oppressed; no one on earth will cause terror again.18 iudicare pupillo et humili,
ut non apponat ultra inducere timorem homo de terra.
