KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.1 A prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our refuge through all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.2 Before the mountains were born, the earth and the world brought forth, from eternity to eternity you are God.
Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.3 But humans you return to dust, saying, "Return, you mortals!"
For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.4 A thousand years in your eyes are merely a yesterday,
Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.5 you have brought them to their end; They disappear like sleep at dawn; they are like grass that dies.
In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.6 It sprouts green in the morning; by evening it is dry and withered.
For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.7 Truly we are consumed by your anger, filled with terror by your wrath.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.8 You have kept our faults before you, our hidden sins exposed to your sight.
For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.9 Our life ebbs away under your wrath; our years end like a sigh.
The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.10 Seventy is the sum of our years, or eighty, if we are strong; Most of them are sorrow and toil; they pass quickly, we are all but gone.
Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.11 Who comprehends your terrible anger? Your wrath matches the fear it inspires.
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.12 Teach us to count our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart.
Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.13 Relent, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants!
O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.14 Fill us at daybreak with your love, that all our days we may sing for joy.
Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.15 Make us glad as many days as you humbled us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.16 Show your deeds to your servants, your glory to their children.
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.17 May the favor of the Lord our God be ours. Prosper the work of our hands! Prosper the work of our hands!
