SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Aleluia. Louvai o Senhor, porque ele é bom. Porque eterna é a sua misericórdia.	1 "Give thanks to the LORD who is good, whose love endures forever!"
2 Assim o dizem aqueles que o Senhor resgatou, aqueles que ele livrou das mãos do opressor,	2 Let that be the prayer of the LORD'S redeemed, those redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3 assim como os que congregou de todos os países, do oriente e do ocidente, do norte e do sul.	3 Those gathered from foreign lands, from east and west, from north and south.
4 Erravam na solidão do deserto, sem encontrar caminho de cidade habitável.	4 Some had lost their way in a barren desert; found no path toward a city to live in.
5 Consumidos de fome e de sede, sentiam desfalecer-lhes a vida.	5 They were hungry and thirsty; their life was ebbing away.
6 Em sua angústia clamaram então para o Senhor, ele os livrou de suas tribulações	6 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who rescued them in their peril,
7 e os conduziu pelo bom caminho, para chegarem a uma cidade habitável.	7 Guided them by a direct path so they reached a city to live in.
8 Agradeçam ao Senhor por sua bondade, e por suas grandes obras em favor dos homens,	8 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
9 porque dessedentou a garganta sequiosa, e cumulou de bens a que tinha fome.	9 For he satisfied the thirsty, filled the hungry with good things.
10 Outros estavam nas trevas e na sombra da morte, prisioneiros na miséria e em ferros,	10 Some lived in darkness and gloom, in prison, bound with chains,
11 por se haverem revoltado contra as ordens de Deus e terem desprezado os desígnios do Altíssimo.	11 Because they rebelled against God's word, scorned the counsel of the Most High,
12 Pelo sofrimento lhes humilhara o coração, sucumbiam sem que ninguém os socorresse.	12 Who humbled their hearts through hardship; they stumbled with no one to help.
13 Em sua angústia clamaram então para o Senhor, e ele os livrou de suas tribulações.	13 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril,
14 Tirou-os das trevas e da sombra da morte, quebrou-lhes os grilhões.	14 Led them forth from darkness and gloom and broke their chains asunder.
15 Agradeçam ao Senhor por sua bondade, e por suas grandes obras em favor dos homens.	15 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
16 Ele arrombou as portas de bronze, e despedaçou os ferrolhos de ferro.	16 For he broke down the gates of bronze and snapped the bars of iron.
17 Outros, enfermos por causa de seu mau proceder, eram feridos por causa de seus pecados.	17 Some fell sick from their wicked ways, afflicted because of their sins.
18 Todo alimento lhes causava náuseas, chegaram às portas da morte.	18 They loathed all manner of food; they were at the gates of death.
19 Em sua angústia clamaram então para o Senhor; ele os livrou de suas tribulações.	19 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril,
20 Enviou a sua palavra para os curar, para os arrancar da morte.	20 Sent forth the word to heal them, snatched them from the grave.
21 Agradeçam ao Senhor por sua bondade, e por suas grandes obras em favor dos homens.	21 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
22 Ofereçam sacrifícios de ação de graças, e proclamem alegremente as suas obras.	22 Let them offer a sacrifice in thanks, declare his works with shouts of joy.
23 Os que se fizeram ao mar, para trafegar nas muitas águas,	23 Some went off to sea in ships, plied their trade on the deep waters.
24 foram testemunhas das obras do Senhor e de suas maravilhas no alto-mar.	24 They saw the works of the LORD, the wonders of God in the deep.
25 Sua palavra levantou tremendo vento, que impeliu para o alto as suas ondas.	25 He spoke and roused a storm wind; it tossed the waves on high.
26 Subiam até os céus, desciam aos abismos, suas almas definhavam em angústias.	26 They rose up to the heavens, sank to the depths; their hearts trembled at the danger.
27 Titubeavam e cambaleavam como ébrios, e toda a sua perícia se esvaiu.	27 They reeled, staggered like drunkards; their skill was of no avail.
28 Em sua agonia clamaram então ao Senhor, e ele os livrou da tribulação.	28 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who brought them out of their peril,
29 Transformou a procela em leve brisa, e as ondas do mar silenciaram.	29 Hushed the storm to a murmur; the waves of the sea were stilled.
30 E se alegraram porque elas amainaram, e os conduziu ao desejado porto.	30 They rejoiced that the sea grew calm, that God brought them to the harbor they longed for.
31 Agradeçam eles ao Senhor por sua bondade, e por suas grandes obras em favor dos homens.	31 Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
32 Celebrem-no na assembléia do povo, e o louvem no conselho dos anciãos.	32 Let them praise him in the assembly of the people, give thanks in the council of the elders.
33 Transformou rios em deserto, e fontes de água em terra árida.	33 God changed rivers into desert, springs of water into thirsty ground,
34 Converteu o solo fértil em salinas, por causa da malícia de seus habitantes.	34 Fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its people.
35 Mudou o deserto em lençol de água, e a terra árida em abundantes fontes.	35 He changed the desert into pools of water, arid land into springs of water,
36 Aí fez habitar os esfaimados, que fundaram uma cidade para morar.	36 And settled the hungry there; they built a city to live in.
37 E semearam os campos e plantaram vinhas, colhendo deles abundantes frutos.	37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards, brought in an abundant harvest.
38 E os abençoou: eles se multiplicaram grandemente, e lhes concedeu rebanhos numerosos.	38 God blessed them, they became very many, and their livestock did not decrease.
39 Depois seu número se reduziu e caíram na miséria, sob a opressão, a desgraça e o sofrimento.	39 Where they were diminished and brought low through misery and cruel oppression,
40 Mas aquele que lança seu desprezo sobre os grandes, e os faz errar por ínvios desertos,	40 But he poured out contempt on princes, made them wander the trackless wastes,
41 {Deus,} soergueu o pobre da miséria, multiplicando famílias como rebanhos.	41 While the poor were released from their affliction; their families increased like their flocks.
42 À vista disso os justos se alegram, e toda a maldade deve fechar a boca.	42 The upright saw this and rejoiced; all wickedness shut its mouth.
43 Quem é sábio para julgar estas coisas e compreender as misericórdias do Senhor?	43 Whoever is wise will take note of these things, will ponder the merciful deeds of the LORD.
