NOVA VULGATANEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Fecit quoque altare aeneum viginti cubitorum longitudinis et viginti cubitorum latitudinis et decem cubitorum1 Then he made a bronze altar twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and ten cubits high.
altitudinis. Mare etiam fusile decem cubitis a labio usque ad labium rotundum per circuitum; quinque cubitos habebat altitudinis, et funiculus triginta cubitorum ambiebat gyrum eius.2 He also made the molten sea. It was perfectly round, ten cubits in diameter, five in depth, and thirty in circumference;
Similitudo quoque boum erat subter illud, in circuitu circumdabant illud — decem cubitis — duobus versibus alvum maris circuibant boves fusiles in una fusione cum mari.3 below the rim a ring of figures of oxen encircled the sea, ten to the cubit, all the way around; there were two rows of these cast in the same mold with the sea.
Et ipsum mare super duodecim boves impositum erat, quorum tres respiciebant aquilonem et alii tres occidentem, porro tres alii meridiem et tres, qui reliqui erant, orientem habentes mare superpositum; posteriora autem boum erant intrinsecus sub mari.4 It rested on twelve oxen, three facing north, three west, three south, and three east, with their haunches all toward the center; the sea rested on their backs.
Porro vastitas eius habebat mensuram palmi, et labium illius erat quasi labium calicis vel repandi lilii; capiebatque tria milia batos.
It was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was made like that of a cup, being lily-shaped. It had a capacity of three thousand measures.
Fecit quoque luteres decem et posuit quinque a dextris et quinque a sinistris, ut lavarent in eis omnia, quae in holocaustum oblaturi erant; porro in mari sacerdotes lavabantur.
Then he made ten basins for washing, placing five of them to the right and five to the left. Here were cleansed the victims for the holocausts; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
Fecit autem et candelabra aurea decem secundum speciem, qua iussa erant fieri, et posuit ea in templo quinque a dextris et quinque a sinistris.7 He made the lampstands of gold, ten of them as was prescribed, and placed them in the nave, five to the right and five to the left.
Necnon et mensas decem, et posuit eas in templo quinque a dextris et quinque a sinistris; phialas quoque aureas centum.
He made ten tables and had them set in the nave, five to the right and five to the left; and he made a hundred golden bowls.
Fecit etiam atrium sacerdotum et atrium grande et ostia in atrio, quae texit aere.9 He made the court of the priests and the great courtyard and the gates of the courtyard; the gates he overlaid with bronze.
Porro mare posuit in latere dextro contra orientem ad meridiem.
The sea was placed off to the southeast from the right side of the temple.
Fecit autem Hiram lebetes et vatilla et phialas et complevit omne opus regis Salomonis in domo Dei;11 Huram also made the pots, the shovels and the bowls. Huram thus completed the work he had to do for King Solomon in the house of God:
hoc est columnas duas et globos et capitella super caput columnarum duarum et serta duo, quae tegerent globos capitellorum;12 two columns, two nodes for the capitals topping these two columns, and two networks covering the nodes of the capitals topping the columns;
malogranata quoque quadringenta et serta duo, ita ut bini ordines malogranatorum singulis sertis iungerentur, quae protegerent globos capitellorum columnarum.13 also four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, with two rows of pomegranates to each network, to cover the two nodes of the capitals topping the columns.
Bases etiam fecit et luteres, quos superposuit basibus,14 He made the stands, and the basins on the stands;
mare unum, boves quoque duodecim sub mari;15 one sea, and the twelve oxen under it;
et lebetes et vatilla et fuscinulas: omnia vasa fecit regi Salomoni Hiram magister eius pro domo Domini ex aere mundissimo.16 likewise the pots, the shovels and the forks. Huram-abi made all these articles for King Solomon from polished bronze for the house of the LORD.
In regione Iordanis fudit ea rex in argillosa terra inter Succoth et Saredatha.17 The king had them cast in the Jordan region, in the clayey ground between Succoth and Zeredah.
Fecitque Salomon multitudinem vasorum innumerabilem, ita ut ignoraretur pondus aeris.
Solomon made all these vessels, so many in number that the weight of the bronze was not ascertained.
Fecitque Salomon omnia vasa domus Dei et altare aureum et mensas et super eas panes propositionis;19 Solomon had all these articles made for the house of God: the golden altar, the tables on which the showbread lay,
candelabra quoque cum lucernis suis, ut lucerent ante Dabir iuxta ritum, ex auro purissimo,20 the lampstands and their lamps of pure gold which were to burn according to prescription before the sanctuary,
snuffers, bowls, cups and firepans of pure gold. As for the entry to the house, its inner doors to the holy of holies, as well as the doors to the nave, were of gold.
