Lettera ai Galati 5

1 Cristo ci ha liberati perché restassimo liberi; state dunque saldi e non lasciatevi imporre di nuovo il giogo della schiavitù.	1 Stand firm, and do not be willing to be again held by the yoke of servitude.
2 Ecco, io Paolo vi dico: se vi fate circoncidere, Cristo non vi gioverà nulla.	2 Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if you have been circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
3 E dichiaro ancora una volta a chiunque si fa circoncidere che egli è obbligato ad osservare tutta quanta la legge.	3 For I again testify, about every man circumcising himself, that he is obligated to act according to the entire law.
4 Non avete più nulla a che fare con Cristo voi che cercate la giustificazione nella legge; siete decaduti dalla grazia.	4 You are being emptied of Christ, you who are being justified by the law. You have fallen from grace.
5 Noi infatti per virtù dello Spirito, attendiamo dalla fede la giustificazione che speriamo.	5 For in spirit, by faith, we await the hope of justice.
6 Poiché in Cristo Gesù non è la circoncisione che conta o la non circoncisione, ma la fede che opera per mezzo della carità.	6 For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision prevails over anything, but only faith which works through charity.
7 Correvate così bene; chi vi ha tagliato la strada che non obbedite più alla verità?	7 You have run well. So what has impeded you, that you would not obey the truth?
8 Questa persuasione non viene sicuramente da colui che vi chiama!	8 This kind of influence is not from him who is calling you.
9 Un po' di lievito fa fermentare tutta la pasta.	9 A little leaven corrupts the whole mass.
10 Io sono fiducioso per voi nel Signore che non penserete diversamente; ma chi vi turba, subirà la sua condanna, chiunque egli sia.	10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will accept nothing of the kind. However, he who disturbs you shall bear the judgment, whomever he may be.
11 Quanto a me, fratelli, se io predico ancora la circoncisione, perché sono tuttora perseguitato? È dunque annullato lo scandalo della croce?	11 And as for me, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still suffering persecution? For then the scandal of the Cross would be made empty.
12 Dovrebbero farsi mutilare coloro che vi turbano.	12 And I wish that those who disturb you would be torn away.
13 Voi infatti, fratelli, siete stati chiamati a libertà. Purché questa libertà non divenga un pretesto per vivere secondo la carne, ma mediante la carità siate a servizio gli uni degli altri.	13 For you, brothers, have been called to liberty. Only you must not make liberty into an occasion for the flesh, but instead, serve one another through the charity of the Spirit.
14 Tutta la legge infatti trova la sua pienezza in un solo precetto: 'amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso'.	14 For the entire law is fulfilled by one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 Ma se vi mordete e divorate a vicenda, guardate almeno di non distruggervi del tutto gli uni gli altri!	15 But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you are not consumed by one another!
16 Vi dico dunque: camminate secondo lo Spirito e non sarete portati a soddisfare i desideri della carne;	16 So then, I say: Walk in the spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
17 la carne infatti ha desideri contrari allo Spirito e lo Spirito ha desideri contrari alla carne; queste cose si oppongono a vicenda, sicché voi non fate quello che vorreste.	17 For the flesh desires against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. And since these are against one another, you may not do whatever you want.
18 Ma se vi lasciate guidare dallo Spirito, non siete più sotto la legge.	18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Del resto le opere della carne sono ben note: fornicazione, impurità, libertinaggio,	19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest; they are: fornication, lust, homosexuality, self-indulgence,
20 idolatria, stregonerie, inimicizie, discordia, gelosia, dissensi, divisioni, fazioni,	20 the serving of idols, drug use, hostility, contentiousness, jealousy, wrath, quarrels, dissensions, divisions,
21 invidie, ubriachezze, orge e cose del genere; circa queste cose vi preavviso, come già ho detto, che chi le compie non erediterà il regno di Dio.	21 envy, murder, inebriation, carousing, and similar things. About these things, I continue to preach to you, as I have preached to you: that those who act in this way shall not obtain the kingdom of God.
22 Il frutto dello Spirito invece è amore, gioia, pace, pazienza, benevolenza, bontà, fedeltà, mitezza, dominio di sé;	22 But the fruit of the Spirit is charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, forbearance,
23 contro queste cose non c'è legge.	23 meekness, faith, modesty, abstinence, chastity. There is no law against such things.
24 Ora quelli che sono di Cristo Gesù hanno crocifisso la loro carne con le sue passioni e i suoi desideri.	24 For those who are Christ’s have crucified their flesh, along with its vices and desires.
25 Se pertanto viviamo dello Spirito, camminiamo anche secondo lo Spirito.	25 If we live by the Spirit, we should also walk by the Spirit.
26 Non cerchiamo la vanagloria, provocandoci e invidiandoci gli uni gli altri.	26 Let us not become desirous of empty glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
