1 Vedendo le folle, Gesù salì sulla montagna e, messosi a sedere, gli si avvicinarono i suoi discepoli.	1 Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him.
2 Prendendo allora la parola, li ammaestrava dicendo:	2 Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:
3 "Beati i poveri in spirito, perché di essi è il regno dei cieli.	3 How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 Beati gli afflitti, perché saranno consolati.	4 Blessed are the gentle: they shal have the earth as inheritance.
5 Beati i miti, perché erediteranno la terra.	5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shal be comforted.
6 Beati quelli che hanno fame e sete della giustizia, perché saranno saziati.	6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shal have their fil .
7 Beati i misericordiosi, perché troveranno misericordia.	7 Blessed are the merciful: they shal have mercy shown them.
8 Beati i puri di cuore, perché vedranno Dio.	8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shal see God.
9 Beati gli operatori di pace, perché saranno chiamati figli di Dio.	9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shal be recognised as children of God.
10 Beati i perseguitati per causa della giustizia, perché di essi è il regno dei cieli.	10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
11 Beati voi quando vi insulteranno, vi perseguiteranno e, mentendo, diranno ogni sorta di male contro di voi per causa mia.	11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak al kinds of calumny againstyou falsely on my account.
12 Rallegratevi ed esultate, perché grande è la vostra ricompensa nei cieli. Così infatti hanno perseguitato i profeti prima di voi.	12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophetsbefore you.
13 Voi siete il sale della terra; ma se il sale perdesse il sapore, con che cosa lo si potrà render salato? A null'altro serve che ad essere gettato via e calpestato dagli uomini.	13 'You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good fornothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people's feet.
14 Voi siete la luce del mondo; non può restare nascosta una città collocata sopra un monte,	14 'You are light for the world. A city built on a hil -top cannot be hidden.
15 né si accende una lucerna per metterla sotto il moggio, ma sopra il lucerniere perché faccia luce a tutti quelli che sono nella casa.	15 No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone inthe house.
16 Così risplenda la vostra luce davanti agli uomini, perché vedano le vostre opere buone e rendano gloria al vostro Padre che è nei cieli.	16 In the same way your light must shine in people's sight, so that, seeing your good works, they maygive praise to your Father in heaven.
17 Non pensate che io sia venuto ad abolire la Legge o i Profeti; non son venuto per abolire, ma per dare compimento.	17 'Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them.
18 In verità vi dico: finché non siano passati il cielo e la terra, non passerà neppure un iota o un segno dalla legge, senza che tutto sia compiuto.	18 In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear fromthe Law until al its purpose is achieved.
19 Chi dunque trasgredirà uno solo di questi precetti, anche minimi, e insegnerà agli uomini a fare altrettanto, sarà considerato minimo nel regno dei cieli. Chi invece li osserverà e li insegnerà agli uomini, sarà considerato grande nel regno dei cieli.	19 Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others todo the same wil be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teachesthem wil be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.
20 Poiché io vi dico: se la vostra giustizia non supererà quella degli scribi e dei farisei, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.	20 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you wil neverget into the kingdom of Heaven.
21 Avete inteso che fu detto agli antichi: 'Non uccidere'; chi avrà ucciso sarà sottoposto a giudizio.	21 'You have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You shal not kil ; and if anyone does kil he mustanswer for it before the court.
22 Ma io vi dico: chiunque si adira con il proprio fratello, sarà sottoposto a giudizio. Chi poi dice al fratello: stupido, sarà sottoposto al sinedrio; e chi gli dice: pazzo, sarà sottoposto al fuoco della Geenna.	22 But I say this to you, anyone who is angry with a brother wil answer for it before the court; anyone whocal s a brother "Fool" wil answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and anyone who cal s him "Traitor" wil answer for it in hel fire.
23 Se dunque presenti la tua offerta sull'altare e lì ti ricordi che tuo fratello ha qualche cosa contro di te,	23 So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother hassomething against you,
24 lascia lì il tuo dono davanti all'altare e va' prima a riconciliarti con il tuo fratello e poi torna ad offrire il tuo dono.	24 leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then comeback and present your offering.
25 Mettiti presto d'accordo con il tuo avversario mentre sei per via con lui, perché l'avversario non ti consegni al giudice e il giudice alla guardia e tu venga gettato in prigione.	25 Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are stil on the way to the court with him, orhe may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you wil be thrown into prison.
26 In verità ti dico: non uscirai di là finché tu non abbia pagato fino all'ultimo spicciolo!	26 In truth I tell you, you wil not get out til you have paid the last penny.
27 Avete inteso che fu detto: 'Non commettere adulterio';	27 'You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery.
28 ma io vi dico: chiunque guarda una donna per desiderarla, ha già commesso adulterio con lei nel suo cuore.	28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her inhis heart.
29 Se il tuo occhio destro ti è occasione di scandalo, cavalo e gettalo via da te: conviene che perisca uno dei tuoi membri, piuttosto che tutto il tuo corpo venga gettato nella Geenna.	29 If your right eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away; for it wil do you less harm tolose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell.
30 E se la tua mano destra ti è occasione di scandalo, tagliala e gettala via da te: conviene che perisca uno dei tuoi membri, piuttosto che tutto il tuo corpo vada a finire nella Geenna.	30 And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it wil do you less harmto lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hel .
31 Fu pure detto: 'Chi ripudia la propria moglie, le dia l'atto di ripudio';	31 'It has also been said, Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal.
32 ma io vi dico: chiunque ripudia sua moglie, eccetto il caso di concubinato, la espone all'adulterio e chiunque sposa una ripudiata, commette adulterio.	32 But I say this to you, everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of an il icit marriage, makesher an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33 Avete anche inteso che fu detto agli antichi: 'Non spergiurare, ma adempi con il Signore i tuoi giuramenti';	33 'Again, you have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but must fulfilyour oaths to the Lord.
34 ma io vi dico: non giurate affatto: né per 'il cielo', perché è 'il trono di Dio';	34 But I say this to you, do not swear at al , either by heaven, since that is God's throne;
35 né per 'la terra', perché è 'lo sgabello per i suoi piedi'; né per 'Gerusalemme', perché è 'la città del gran re'.	35 or by earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great King.
36 Non giurare neppure per la tua testa, perché non hai il potere di rendere bianco o nero un solo capello.	36 Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black.
37 Sia invece il vostro parlare sì, sì; no, no; il di più viene dal maligno.	37 All you need say is "Yes" if you mean yes, "No" if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the Evil One.
38 Avete inteso che fu detto: 'Occhio per occhio e dente per dente';	38 'You have heard how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
39 ma io vi dico di non opporvi al malvagio; anzi se uno ti percuote la guancia destra, tu porgigli anche l'altra;	39 But I say this to you: offer no resistance to the wicked. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the rightcheek, offer him the other as wel ;
40 e a chi ti vuol chiamare in giudizio per toglierti la tunica, tu lascia anche il mantello.	40 if someone wishes to go to law with you to get your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 E se uno ti costringerà a fare un miglio, tu fanne con lui due.	41 And if anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 Da' a chi ti domanda e a chi desidera da te un prestito non volgere le spalle.	42 Give to anyone who asks you, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.
43 Avete inteso che fu detto: 'Amerai il tuo prossimo' e odierai il tuo nemico;	43 'You have heard how it was said, You wil love your neighbour and hate your enemy.
44 ma io vi dico: amate i vostri nemici e pregate per i vostri persecutori,	44 But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you;
45 perché siate figli del Padre vostro celeste, che fa sorgere il suo sole sopra i malvagi e sopra i buoni, e fa piovere sopra i giusti e sopra gli ingiusti.	45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as wellas the good, and sends down rain to fal on the upright and the wicked alike.
46 Infatti se amate quelli che vi amano, quale merito ne avete? Non fanno così anche i pubblicani?	46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax col ectors do asmuch?
47 E se date il saluto soltanto ai vostri fratelli, che cosa fate di straordinario? Non fanno così anche i pagani?	47 And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional?
48 Siate voi dunque perfetti come è perfetto il Padre vostro celeste.	48 Do not even the gentiles do as much? You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father isperfect.'
