1 (4,21)Salomone esercitava l'egemonia su tutti i regni, dal fiume alla regione dei Filistei e al confine con l'Egitto. Gli portavano tributi e servirono Salomone finché visse.	1 Solomon was overlord of al the kingdoms from the River to the territory of the Philistines and theEgyptian border. They brought tribute and served him al his life long.
2 (22)I viveri di Salomone per un giorno erano trenta 'kor' di fior di farina e sessanta 'kor' di farina comune,	2 The daily provisions for Solomon were: thirty measures of fine flour and sixty measures of meal,
3 (23)dieci buoi grassi, venti buoi da pascolo e cento pecore, senza contare i cervi, le gazzelle, le antilopi e i volatili da stia.	3 ten fattened oxen, twenty free-grazing oxen, one hundred sheep, besides deer and gazelles, roebucksand fattened poultry.

7 (27)Quei prefetti, ognuno per il suo mese, provvedevano quanto serviva al re Salomone e a quelli che erano ammessi alla sua tavola; non facevano mancare nulla.	7 These administrators provided the food for Solomon and for al those who were admitted by him to theroyal table, each for the period of a month; they ensured that nothing was wanting.
8 (28)Portavano l'orzo e la paglia per i cavalli da tiro e da sella nel luogo ove si trovava ognuno secondo la propria mansione.	8 They also provided the barley and straw for the horses and draught animals, where required, eachaccording to the quota demanded of him.
9 (29)Dio concesse a Salomone saggezza e intelligenza molto grandi e una mente vasta come la sabbia che è sulla spiaggia del mare.	9 God gave Solomon immense wisdom and understanding, and a heart as vast as the sand on the sea-shore.
10 (30)La saggezza di Salomone superò la saggezza di tutti gli orientali e tutta la saggezza dell'Egitto.	10 The wisdom of Solomon surpassed the wisdom of al the sons of the East and al the wisdom of Egypt.
11 (31)Egli fu veramente più saggio di tutti, più di Etan l'Ezrachita, di Eman, di Calcol e di Darda, figli di Macol; il suo nome divenne noto fra tutti i popoli limitrofi.	11 He was wiser than anyone else, wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, than the sons of Mahol, Heman, Calcoland Darda; his fame spread to all the surrounding nations.
12 (32)Salomone pronunziò tremila proverbi; le sue poesie furono millecinque.	12 He composed three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered a thousand and five.
13 (33)Parlò di piante, dal cedro del Libano all'issòpo che sbuca dal muro; parlò di quadrupedi, di uccelli, di rettili e di pesci.	13 He could discourse on plants from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing on the wal ; and hecould discourse on animals and birds and reptiles and fish.
14 (34)Da tutte le nazioni venivano per ascoltare la saggezza di Salomone; venivano anche i re dei paesi ove si era sparsa la fama della sua saggezza.	14 Men from al nations came to hear Solomon's wisdom, and he received gifts from al the kings in theworld, who had heard of his wisdom.
15 (5,1)Chiram, re di Tiro, mandò i suoi ministri da Salomone, perché aveva sentito che era stato consacrato re al posto di suo padre; ora Chiram era sempre stato amico di Davide.	15 Hiram king of Tyre sent an embassy to Solomon, having learnt that he had been anointed king insuccession to his father and because Hiram had always been a friend of David.
16 (2)Salomone mandò a dire a Chiram:	16 And Solomon sent this message to Hiram,
17 (3)"Tu sai che Davide mio padre non ha potuto edificare un tempio al nome del Signore suo Dio a causa delle guerre che i nemici gli mossero da tutte le parti, finché il Signore non li prostrò sotto la pianta dei suoi piedi.	17 'You are aware that my father David was unable to build a temple for the name of Yahweh his God, onaccount of the wars waged on him from every side, until Yahweh put his enemies under the soles of his feet.
18 (4)Ora il Signore mio Dio mi ha dato pace da ogni parte e non ho né avversari né particolari difficoltà.	18 But now Yahweh my God has given me peace on every side: not one enemy, no calamities.
19 (5)Ecco, ho deciso di edificare un tempio al nome del Signore mio Dio, come ha detto il Signore a Davide mio padre: Tuo figlio, che io porrò al tuo posto sul tuo trono, edificherà un tempio al mio nome.	19 I propose, then, to build a temple for the name of Yahweh my God, in accordance with what Yahwehtold my father David, "Your son whom I shall place on your throne to succeed you wil be the man to build atemple for my name."
20 (6)Ordina, dunque, che si taglino per me cedri del Libano; i miei servi saranno con i tuoi servi; io ti darò come salario per i tuoi servi quanto fisserai. Tu sai bene, infatti, che fra di noi nessuno è capace di tagliare il legname come sanno fare quelli di Sidone".	20 So now have cedars of Lebanon cut down for me; my servants wil work with your servants, and I shallpay for the hire of your servants at whatever rate you fix. As you know, we have no one as skil ed in felling treesas the Sidonians.'
21 (7)Quando Chiram udì le parole di Salomone, gioì molto e disse: "Sia benedetto, oggi, il Signore che ha dato a Davide un figlio saggio per governare questo gran popolo".	21 When Hiram heard what Solomon had said, he was delighted. 'Now blessed be Yahweh,' he said, 'whohas given David a wise son to rule over this great people!'
22 (8)Chiram mandò a dire a Salomone: "Ho ascoltato il tuo messaggio; farò quanto desideri riguardo al legname di cedro e al legname di abete.	22 And Hiram sent word to Solomon, 'I have received your message. For my part, I shall supply you withal you require in the way of cedar wood and juniper.
23 (9)I miei servi lo caleranno dal Libano al mare; io lo metterò in mare su zattere fino al punto che mi indicherai. Là lo scaricherò e tu lo prenderai. Quanto a provvedere al mantenimento della mia famiglia, tu soddisferai il mio desiderio".	23 Your servants wil bring these down from Lebanon to the sea, and I shal have them towed by sea toany place you name; I shal discharge them there, and you wil take them over. For your part, you wil see to theprovisioning of my household as I desire.'
24 (10)Chiram fornì a Salomone legname di cedro e legname di abete, quanto ne volle.	24 So Hiram provided Solomon with al the cedar wood and juniper he wanted
25 (11)Salomone diede a Chiram ventimila 'kor' di grano, per il mantenimento della sua famiglia, e venti 'kor' di olio d'olive schiacciate; questo dava Salomone a Chiram ogni anno.	25 while Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand kor of wheat to feed his household, and twenty thousandkor of pure oil. Solomon gave Hiram this every year.
26 (12)Il Signore concesse a Salomone la saggezza come gli aveva promesso. Fra Chiram e Salomone regnò la pace e i due conclusero un'alleanza.	26 Yahweh gave Solomon wisdom as he had promised him; good relations persisted between Solomonand Hiram, and the two of them concluded a treaty.
27 (13)Il re Salomone reclutò il lavoro forzato da tutto Israele e il lavoro forzato era di trentamila uomini.	27 King Solomon raised a levy throughout Israel for forced labour: the levy numbered thirty thousand men.

Adoniram sovrintendeva al loro lavoro.	28 He sent these to Lebanon in relays, ten thousand a month; they spent one month in Lebanon and twomonths at home. Adoram was in charge of the forced labour.
29 (15)Salomone aveva settantamila operai addetti al trasporto del materiale e ottantamila scalpellini a tagliar pietre sui monti,	29 Solomon also had seventy thousand porters and eighty thousand quarrymen in the mountains,
30 (16)senza contare gli incaricati dei prefetti, che erano tremilatrecento, preposti da Salomone al comando delle persone addette ai lavori.	30 as wel as the administrators, officials who supervised the work, three thousand three hundred of themin charge of the men employed in the work.
31 (17)Il re diede ordine di estrarre grandi massi, tra i migliori, perché venissero squadrati per le fondamenta del tempio.	31 At the king's orders they quarried huge stones, special stones for the laying of the temple foundations,dressed stones.
32 (18)Gli operai di Salomone, gli operai di Chiram e di Biblos li sgrossavano; furono anche preparati il legname e le pietre per la costruzione del tempio.	32 Solomon's workmen and Hiram's workmen and the Giblites cut and assembled the wood and stone forthe building of the Temple.
