1 Dopo queste cose il coppiere del re d'Egitto e il panettiere offesero il loro padrone, il re d'Egitto.	1 While these things were going on, it happened that two eunuchs, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt, and the miller of grain, offended their lord.
2 Il faraone si adirò contro i suoi due eunuchi, contro il capo dei coppieri e contro il capo dei panettieri,	2 And Pharaoh, being angry with them, (now the one was in charge of the cupbearers, the other of the millers of grain)
3 e li fece mettere in carcere nella casa del comandante delle guardie, nella prigione dove Giuseppe era detenuto.	3 sent them to the prison of the leader of the military, in which Joseph also was a prisoner.
4 Il comandante delle guardie assegnò loro Giuseppe, perché li servisse. Così essi restarono nel carcere per un certo tempo.	4 But the keeper of the prison delivered them to Joseph, who ministered to them also. Some little time passed by, while they were held in custody.
5 Ora, in una medesima notte, il coppiere e il panettiere del re d'Egitto, che erano detenuti nella prigione, ebbero tutti e due un sogno, ciascuno il suo sogno, che aveva un significato particolare.	5 And they both saw a similar dream on one night, whose interpretations should be related to one another.
6 Alla mattina Giuseppe venne da loro e vide che erano afflitti.	6 And when Joseph had entered to them in the morning, and had seen them sad,
7 Allora interrogò gli eunuchi del faraone che erano con lui in carcere nella casa del suo padrone e disse: "Perché quest'oggi avete la faccia così triste?".	7 he consulted them, saying, “Why is your expression sadder today than usual?”
8 Gli dissero: "Abbiamo fatto un sogno e non c'è chi lo interpreti". Giuseppe disse loro: "Non è forse Dio che ha in suo potere le interpretazioni? Raccontatemi dunque".	8 They responded, “We have seen a dream, and there is no one to interpret it for us.” And Joseph said to them, “Doesn’t interpretation belong to God? Recount for me what you have seen.”
9 Allora il capo dei coppieri raccontò il suo sogno a Giuseppe e gli disse: "Nel mio sogno, ecco mi stava davanti una vite,	9 The chief cupbearer explained his dream first. “I saw before me a vine,
10 sulla quale erano tre tralci; non appena essa cominciò a germogliare, apparvero i fiori e i suoi grappoli maturarono gli acini.	10 on which were three shoots, which grew little by little into buds, and, after the flowers, it matured into grapes.
11 Io avevo in mano il calice del faraone; presi gli acini, li spremetti nella coppa del faraone e diedi la coppa in mano al faraone".	11 And the cup of Pharaoh was in my hand. Therefore, I took the grapes, and I pressed them into the cup that I held, and I handed the cup to Pharaoh.”
12 Giuseppe gli disse: "Eccone la spiegazione: i tre tralci sono tre giorni.	12 Joseph responded: “This is the interpretation of the dream. The three shoots are the next three days,
13 Fra tre giorni il faraone solleverà la tua testa e ti restituirà nella tua carica e tu porgerai il calice al faraone, secondo la consuetudine di prima, quando eri suo coppiere.	13 after which Pharaoh will remember your service, and he will restore you to your former position. And you will give him the cup according to your office, as you were accustomed to do before.
14 Ma se, quando sarai felice, ti vorrai ricordare che io sono stato con te, fammi questo favore: parla di me al faraone e fammi uscire da questa casa.	14 Only remember me, when it will be well with you, and do me this mercy, to suggest to Pharaoh to lead me out of this prison.
15 Perché io sono stato portato via ingiustamente dal paese degli Ebrei e anche qui non ho fatto nulla perché mi mettessero in questo sotterraneo".	15 For I have been stolen from the land of the Hebrews, and here, innocently, I was cast into the pit.”
16 Allora il capo dei panettieri, vedendo che aveva dato un'interpretazione favorevole, disse a Giuseppe: "Quanto a me, nel mio sogno mi stavano sulla testa tre canestri di pane bianco	16 The chief miller of grain, seeing that he had wisely unraveled the dream, said: “I also saw a dream: that I had three baskets of meal above my head,
17 e nel canestro che stava di sopra era ogni sorta di cibi per il faraone, quali si preparano dai panettieri. Ma gli uccelli li mangiavano dal canestro che avevo sulla testa".	17 and in one basket, which was the highest, I carried all foods that are made by the art of baking, and the birds ate from it.”
18 Giuseppe rispose e disse: "Questa è la spiegazione: i tre canestri sono tre giorni.	18 Joseph responded: “This is the interpretation of the dream. The three baskets are the next three days,
19 Fra tre giorni il faraone solleverà la tua testa e ti impiccherà ad un palo e gli uccelli ti mangeranno la carne addosso".	19 after which Pharaoh will carry away your head, and also suspend you from a cross, and the birds will tear your flesh.”
20 Appunto al terzo giorno - era il giorno natalizio del faraone - egli fece un banchetto a tutti i suoi ministri e allora sollevò la testa del capo dei coppieri e la testa del capo dei panettieri in mezzo ai suoi ministri.	20 The third day thereafter was the birthday of Pharaoh. And making a great feast for his servants, he remembered, during the banquet, the chief cupbearer and the chief miller of grain.
21 Restituì il capo dei coppieri al suo ufficio di coppiere, perché porgesse la coppa al faraone,	21 And he restored the one to his place, to present him the cup;
22 e invece impiccò il capo dei panettieri, secondo l'interpretazione che Giuseppe aveva loro data.	22 the other he hanged on a gallows, and thus the truth of the interpreter of dreams was proven.
23 Ma il capo dei coppieri non si ricordò di Giuseppe e lo dimenticò.	23 And although he advanced with so much prosperity, the chief cupbearer forgot his interpreter of dreams.
