BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ante todo recomiendo que se hagan plegarias, oraciones, súplicas y acciones de gracias por todos los hombres;	1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,
2 por los reyes y por todos los constituidos en autoridad, para que podamos vivir una vida tranquila y apacible con toda piedad y dignidad.	2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.
3 Esto es bueno y agradable a Dios, nuestro Salvador,	3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
4 que quiere que todos los hombres se salven y lleguen al conocimiento pleno de la verdad.	4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.
5 Porque hay un solo Dios, y también un solo mediador entre Dios y los hombres, Cristo Jesús, hombre también,	5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,
6 que se entregó a sí mismo como rescate por todos. Este es el testimonio dado en el tiempo oportuno,	6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,
7 y de este testimonio - digo la verdad, no miento - yo he sido constituido heraldo y apóstol, maestro de los gentiles en la fe y en la verdad.	7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.
8 Quiero, pues, que los hombres oren en todo lugar elevando hacia el cielo unas manos piadosas, sin ira ni discusiones.	8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.
9 Así mismo que las mujeres, vestidas decorosamente, se adornen con pudor y modestia, no con trenzas ni con oro o perlas o vestidos costosos,	9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;
10 sino con buenas obras, como conviene a mujeres que hacen profesión de piedad.	10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
11 La mujer oiga la instrucción en silencio, con toda sumisión.	11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.
12 No permito que la mujer enseñe ni que domine al hombre. Que se mantenga en silencio.	12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,
13 Porque Adán fue formado primero y Eva en segundo lugar.	13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,
14 Y el engañado no fue Adán, sino la mujer que, seducida, incurrió en la transgresión.	14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.
15 Con todo, se salvará por su maternidad mientras persevere con modestia en la fe, en la caridad y en la santidad.	15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.
