BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¿Cuál es, pues, la ventaja del judío? ¿Cuál la utilidad de la circuncisión?	1 Is there any benefit, then, in being a Jew? Is there any advantage in being circumcised?
2 Grande, de todas maneras. Ante todo, a ellos les fueron confiados los oráculos de Dios.	2 A great deal, in every way. First of al , it was to the Jews that the message of God was entrusted.
3 Pues ¿qué? Si algunos de ellos fueron infieles ¿frustrará, por ventura, su infidelidad la fidelidad de Dios?	3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Do you think their lack of faith could cancel God's faithfulness?
4 ¡De ningún modo! Dios tiene que ser veraz y todo hombre mentiroso, como dice la Escritura: Para que seas justificado en tus palabras y triunfes al ser juzgado.	4 Out of the question! God wil always be true even if no human being can be relied on. As scripturesays: That you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence and your victory may appear when yougive judgement.
5 Pero si nuestra injusticia realza la justicia de Dios, ¿qué diremos? ¿Será acaso injusto Dios al descargar su cólera? (Hablo en términos humanos.)	5 But if our injustice serves to bring God's saving justice into view, can we say that God is unjust when --to use human terms -- he brings his retribution down on us?
6 ¡De ningún modo! Si no, ¿cómo juzgará Dios al mundo?	6 Out of the question! It would mean that God could not be the judge of the world.
7 Pero si con mi mentira sale ganando la verdad de Dios para gloria suya ¿por qué razón soy también yo todavía juzgado como pecador?	7 You might as wel say that if my untruthfulness makes God demonstrate his truthfulness, to his greaterglory, then I should not be judged to be a sinner at al .
8 Y ¿por qué no hacer el mal para que venga el bien, como algunos calumniosamente nos acusan que decimos? Esos tales tienen merecida su condenación.	8 In this case, the slanderous report some people are spreading would be true, that we teach that oneshould do evil that good may come of it. In fact such people are justly condemned.
9 Entonces ¿qué? ¿Llevamos ventaja? ¡De ningún modo!	9 Wel : are we any better off? Not at al : we have already indicted Jews and Greeks as being al alikeunder the dominion of sin.
10 Pues ya demostramos que tanto judíos como griegos están bajo el pecado, como dice la Escritura: No hay quien sea justo, ni siquiera uno solo.	10 As scripture says: Not one of them is upright, not a single one,
11 No hay un sensato, no hay quien busque a Dios.	11 not a single one is wise, not a single one seeks God.
12 Todos se desviaron, a una se corrompieron; no hay quien obre el bien, no hay siquiera uno.	12 Al have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.
13 Sepulcro abierto es su garganta, con su lengua urden engaños. Veneno de áspides bajo sus labios;	13 Their throats are wide -- open graves, their tongues seductive. Viper's venom behind their lips;
14 maldición y amargura rebosa su boca.	14 their speech is ful of cursing and bitterness.
15 Ligeros sus pies para derramar sangre;	15 Their feet quick to shed innocent blood,
16 ruina y miseria son sus caminos.	16 wherever they go there is havoc and ruin.
17 El camino de la paz no lo conocieron,	17 They do not know the way of peace,
18 no hay temor de Dios ante sus ojos.	18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Ahora bien, sabemos que cuanto dice la ley lo dice para los que están bajo la ley, para que toda boca enmudezca y el mundo entero se reconozca reo ante Dios,	19 Now we are wel aware that whatever the Law says is said for those who are subject to the Law, sothat every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world brought under the judgement of God.
20 ya que nadie será justificado ante él por las obras de la ley, pues la ley no da sino el conocimiento del pecado.	20 So then, no human being can be found upright at the tribunal of God by keeping the Law; al that theLaw does is to tell us what is sinful.
21 Pero ahora, independientemente de la ley, la justicia de Dios se ha manifestado, atestiguada por la ley y los profetas,	21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealedaltogether apart from law:
22 justicia de Dios por la fe en Jesucristo, para todos los que creen - pues no hay diferencia alguna;	22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to al who believe.
23 todos pecaron y están privados de la gloria de Dios -	23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,
24 y son justificados por el don de su gracia, en virtud de la redención realizada en Cristo Jesús,	24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.
25 a quien exhibió Dios como instrumento de propiciación por su propia sangre, mediante la fe, para mostrar su justicia, habiendo pasado por alto los pecados cometidos anteriormente,	25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and soshowed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;
26 en el tiempo de la paciencia de Dios; en orden a mostrar su justicia en el tiempo presente, para ser él justo y justificador del que cree en Jesús.	26 and now again for the present age, to show how he is just and justifies everyone who has faith inJesus.
27 ¿Dónde está, entonces, el derecho a gloriarse? Queda eliminado.!? Por qué ley? ¿Por la de las obras? No. Por la ley de la fe.	27 So what becomes of our boasts? There is no room for them. On what principle- that only actionscount? No; that faith is what counts,
28 Porque pensamos que el hombre es justificado por la fe, sin las obras de la ley.	28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tel s him to do.
29 ¿Acaso Dios lo es únicamente de los judíos y no también de los gentiles? ¡Sí, por cierto!, también de los gentiles;	29 Do you think God is the God only of the Jews, and not of gentiles too? Most certainly of gentiles too,
30 porque no hay más que un solo Dios, que justificará a los circuncisos en virtud de la fe y a los incircuncisos por medio de la fe.	30 since there is only one God; he will justify the circumcised by their faith, and he will justify theuncircumcised through their faith.
31 Entonces ¿por la fe privamos a la ley de su valor? ¡De ningún modo! Más bien, la consolidamos.	31 Are we saying that the Law has been made pointless by faith? Out of the question; we are placing theLaw on its true footing.
