1 Y sucedió que, cuando acabó Jesús de dar instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en sus ciudades.	1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Juan, que en la cárcel había oído hablar de las obras de Cristo, envió a sus discípulos a decirle:	2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 «¿Eres tú el que ha de venir, o debemos esperar a otro?»	3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesús les respondió: «Id y contad a Juan lo que oís y veis:	4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 los ciegos ven y los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios y los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan y se anuncia a los pobres la Buena Nueva;	5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 ¡y dichoso aquel que no halle escándalo en mí!»	6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7 Cuando éstos se marchaban, se puso Jesús a hablar de Juan a la gente: «¿Qué salisteis a ver en el desierto? ¿Una caña agitada por el viento?	7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8 ¿Qué salisteis a ver, si no? ¿Un hombre elegantemente vestido? ¡No! Los que visten con elegancia están en los palacios de los reyes.	8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9 Entonces ¿a qué salisteis? ¿A ver un profeta? Sí, os digo, y más que un profeta.	9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10 Este es de quien está escrito: He aquí que yo envío mi mensajero delante de ti, que preparará por delante tu camino.	10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 «En verdad os digo que no ha surgido entre los nacidos de mujer uno mayor que Juan el Bautista; sin embargo, el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos es mayor que él.	11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el Reino de los Cielos sufre violencia, y los violentos lo arrebatan.	12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13 Pues todos los profetas, lo mismo que la Ley, hasta Juan profetizaron.	13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 Y, si queréis admitirlo, él es Elías, el que iba a venir.	14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
15 El que tenga oídos, que oiga.	15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16 «¿Pero, con quién compararé a esta generación? Se parece a los chiquillos que, sentados en las plazas, se gritan unos a otros diciendo:	16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17 “Os hemos tocado la flauta, y no habéis bailado, os hemos entonado endechas, y no os habéis lamentado.”	17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18 Porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: “Demonio tiene.”	18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
19 Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Ahí tenéis un comilón y un borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores.” Y la Sabiduría se ha acreditado por sus obras».	19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
20 Entonces se puso a maldecir a las ciudades en las que se habían realizado la mayoría de sus milagros, porque no se habían convertido:	20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
21 «¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en vosotras, tiempo ha que en sayal y ceniza se habrían convertido.	21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 Por eso os digo que el día del Juicio habrá menos rigor para Tiro y Sidón que para vosotras.	22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23 Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿hasta el cielo te vas a encumbrar? ¡Hasta el Hades te hundirás! Porque si en Sodoma se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en ti, aún subsistiría el día de hoy.	23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24 Por eso os digo que el día del Juicio habrá menos rigor para la tierra de Sodoma que para ti».	24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25 En aquel tiempo, tomando Jesús la palabra, dijo: «Yo te bendigo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has ocultado estas cosas a sabios e inteligentes, y se las has revelado a pequeños.	25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26 Sí, Padre, pues tal ha sido tu beneplácito.	26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27 Todo me ha sido entregado por mi Padre, y nadie conoce bien al Hijo sino el Padre, ni al Padre le conoce bien nadie sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.	27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28 «Venid a mí todos los que estáis fatigados y sobrecargados, y yo os daré descanso.	28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Tomad sobre vosotros mi yugo, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.	29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga ligera».	30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
