Ezequiel 31

BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 El año undécimo, el día uno del tercer mes, la palabra de Yahveh me fue dirigida en estos términos:	1 On the first day of the third month in the eleventh year, the word of the LORD came to me:
2 Hijo de hombre, di a Faraón, rey de Egipto, y a la multitud de sus súbditos: ¿A quién compararte en tu grandeza?	2 Son of man, say to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his hordes: What are you like in your greatness?
3 Mira: a un cedro del Líbano de espléndido ramaje, de fronda de amplia sombra y de elevada talla. Entre las nubes despuntaba su copa.	3 Behold, a cypress (cedar) in Lebanon, beautiful of branch, lofty of stature, amid the very clouds lifted its crest.
4 Las aguas le hicieron crecer, el abismo le hizo subir, derramando sus aguas en torno a su plantación, enviando sus acequias a todos los árboles del campo.	4 Waters made it grow, the abyss made it flourish, sending its rivers round where it was planted, turning its streams to all the trees of the field.
5 Por eso su tronco superaba en altura a todos los árboles del campo, sus ramas se multiplicaban, se alargaba su ramaje, por la abundancia de agua que le hacía crecer.	5 Thus it grew taller than every other tree of the field, and longer of branch because of the abundant water.
6 En sus ramas anidaban todos los pájaros del cielo, bajo su fronda parían todas las bestias del campo, a su sombra se sentaban naciones numerosas.	6 In its boughs nested all the birds of the air, under its branches all beasts of the field gave birth, in its shade dwelt numerous peoples of every race.
7 Era hermoso en su grandeza, en su despliegue de ramaje, porque sus raíces se alargaban hacia aguas abundantes.	7 It became beautiful and stately in its spread of foliage, for its roots were turned toward abundant water.
8 No le igualaban los demás cedros en el jardín de Dios, los cipreses no podían competir con su ramaje, los plátanos no tenían ramas como las suyas. Ningún árbol, en el jardín de Dios, le igualaba en belleza.	8 The cedars in the garden of God were not its equal, nor could the fir trees match its boughs, Neither were the plane trees like it for branches; no tree in the garden of God matched its beauty.
9 Yo le había embellecido con follaje abundante, y le envidiaban todos los árboles de Edén, los del jardín de Dios.	9 I made it beautiful, with much foliage, the envy of all Eden's trees in the garden of God.
10 Pues bien, así dice el Señor Yahveh: Por haber exagerado su talla, levantando su copa por entre las nubes, y haberse engreído su corazón de su altura,	10 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because it became lofty in stature, raising its crest among the clouds, and because it became proud in heart at its height,
11 yo le he entregado en manos del conductor de las naciones, para que le trate conforme a su maldad; ¡le he desechado!	11 I have handed it over to the mightiest of the nations, which has dealt with it in keeping with its wickedness. I humiliated it.
12 Extranjeros, los más báraros entre las naciones, lo han talado y lo han abandonado. En los montes y por todos los valles yace su ramaje; sus ramas están destrozadas por todos los barrancos del país; toda la población del país se ha retirado de su sombra y lo ha abandonado.	12 Foreigners, the most ruthless of the nations, cut it down and left it on the mountains. Its foliage was brought low in all the valleys, its branches lay broken in all the ravines of the land, and all the peoples of the land withdrew from its shade, abandoning it.
13 Sobre sus despojos se han posado todos los pájaros del cielo, a sus ramas han venido todas las bestias del campo.	13 On its fallen trunk rested all the birds of the air, and by its branches were all the beasts of the field.
14 Ha sido para que ningún árbol plantado junto a las aguas se engría de su talla, ni levante su copa por entre las nubes, y para que ningún árbol bien regado se estire hacia ellas con su altura. ¡Porque todos ellos están destinados a la muerte, a los infiernos, como el común de los hombres, como los que bajan a la fosa!	14 Thus no tree may grow lofty in stature or raise its crest among the clouds; no tree fed by water may stand by itself in its loftiness. For all of them are destined for death, for the land below, For the company of mortals, those who go down into the pit.
15 Así dice el Señor Yahveh: El día que bajó al seol, en señal de duelo yo cerré sobre él el abismo, detuve sus ríos, y las aguas abundantes cesaron; por causa de él llené de sombra el Líbano, y todos los árboles del campo se amustiaron por él.	15 Thus says the Lord GOD: On the day he went down to the nether world I made the abyss close up over him; I stopped its streams so that the deep waters were held back. I cast gloom over Lebanon because of him, so that all the trees in the land drooped on his account.
16 Hice temblar a las naciones por el estrépito de su caída, cuando le precipité en el seol, con los que bajan a la fosa. En los infiernos se consolaron todos los árboles de Edén, lo más selecto y más bello del Líbano, regados todos por las aguas.	16 At the crash of his fall I made the nations rock, when I cast him down to the nether world with those who go down into the pit. In the land below, all Eden's trees were consoled, Lebanon's choice and best, all that were fed by water.
17 Y al mismo tiempo que él, bajaron al seol, donde las víctimas de la espada, los que eran su brazo y moraban a su sombra en medio de las naciones.	17 They too have come down with him to the nether world, to those slain by the sword; those who dwelt in his shade are dispersed among the nations.
18 ¿A quién eras comparable en gloria y en grandeza, entre los árboles de Edén? Sin embargo has sido precipitado, con los árboles de Edén, en los infiernos; en medio de incircuncisos yaces, con las víctimas de la espada: ése es Faraón y toda su multitud, oráculo del Señor Yahveh.	18 Which was your equal in glory or size among the trees of Eden? Yet you have been brought down with the trees of Eden to the land below. You shall lie with the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword. Such are Pharaoh and all his hordes, says the Lord GOD.
