1 From Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus and from our brother Timothy; to our dear fel ow workerPhilemon,	1 Paolo, prigioniero di Cristo Gesù, e il fratello Timoteo a Filemone diletto e cooperatore nostro,
2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus and the church that meets in your house.	2 e alla sorella Affia, e ad Archippo, compagno nostro di milizia, e alla Chiesa che si raduna nella tua casa:
3 Grace and the peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	3 grazia a voi e pace da Dio Padre nostro e dal Signore Gesù Cristo.
4 I always thank my God, mentioning you in my prayers,	4 Rendo grazia incessantemente al mio Dio ricordandoti nelle mie preghiere,
5 because I hear of the love and the faith which you have for the Lord Jesus and for al God's holypeople.	5 poiché odo parlare della carità e della fede che hai nel Signore Gesù e verso tutti i santi.

10 I am appealing to you for a child of mine, whose father I became while wearing these chains: I meanOnesimus.	10 Ti prego, dunque, per il figlio che ho generato nelle catene, per Onesimo,
11 He was of no use to you before, but now he is useful both to you and to me.	11 che una Volta non ti fu affatto utile, ma d’ora in poi sarà molto utile a te come a me.

13 I should have liked to keep him with me; he could have been a substitute for you, to help me while Iam in the chains that the gospel has brought me.	13 Veramente io avrei voluto tenerlo presso di me, affinché mi servisse in tua vece nella prigionia che soffro a causa dell’evangelo;
14 However, I did not want to do anything without your consent; it would have been forcing your act ofkindness, which should be spontaneous.	14 ma non ho voluto fare nulla senza il tuo parere, affinché la tua opera buona non fosse forzata, mentre dev’essere spontanea.
15 I suppose you have been deprived of Onesimus for a time, merely so that you could have him backfor ever,	15 Per questo, forse, ti è stato sottratto temporaneamente, affinché tu lo potessi riavere per l’eternità; non più come schiavo, ma, ben meglio che schiavo, fratello diletto: lo è moltissimo a me,
16 no longer as a slave, but something much better than a slave, a dear brother; especial y dear to me,but how much more to you, both on the natural plane and in the Lord.	16 quanto più dev’esserlo a te e per motivo umano e per il Signore!
17 So if you grant me any fel owship with yourself, welcome him as you would me;	17 Se, dunque, mi consideri in comunione con te, ricevilo come me stesso.
18 if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, put it down to my account.	18 Che se egli ti ha danneggiato o ti deve qualcosa, scrivilo sul mio conto.
19 I am writing this in my own hand: I, Paul, shal pay it back -- I make no mention of a further debt, thatyou owe your very self to me!	19 Io Paolo scrivo di mio pugno: io pagherò. Per non dirti che tu sei debitore a me di te stesso.
20 Wel then, brother, I am counting on you, in the Lord; set my heart at rest, in Christ.	20 SÌ, fratello, che io abbia da te questo favore nel Signore! Ristora il mio cuore in Cristo.
21 I am writing with complete confidence in your compliance, sure that you wil do even more than I ask.	21 Ti scrivo fiducioso nella tua docilità, ben sapendo che farai più ancora di ciò che ti domando.
