1 From Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus and from our brother Timothy; to our dear fel ow workerPhilemon,	1 Paolo, prigioniero di Cristo Gesù, e il fratello Timòteo al carissimo Filèmone, nostro collaboratore,
2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus and the church that meets in your house.	2 alla sorella Apfìa, ad Archippo nostro compagno nella lotta per la fede e alla comunità che si raduna nella tua casa:
3 Grace and the peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	3 grazia a voi e pace da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signore Gesù Cristo.
4 I always thank my God, mentioning you in my prayers,	4 Rendo grazie al mio Dio, ricordandomi sempre di te nelle mie preghiere,
5 because I hear of the love and the faith which you have for the Lord Jesus and for al God's holypeople.	5 perché sento parlare della tua carità e della fede che hai nel Signore Gesù e verso tutti i santi.
6 I pray that your fel owship in faith may come to expression in ful knowledge of all the good we can dofor Christ.	6 La tua partecipazione alla fede diventi operante, per far conoscere tutto il bene che c’è tra noi per Cristo.
7 I have received much joy and encouragement by your love; you have set the hearts of God's holypeople at rest.	7 La tua carità è stata per me motivo di grande gioia e consolazione, fratello, perché per opera tua i santi sono stati profondamente confortati.
8 Therefore, although in Christ I have no hesitations about telling you what your duty is,	8 Per questo, pur avendo in Cristo piena libertà di ordinarti ciò che è opportuno,
9 I am rather appealing to your love, being what I am, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner ofChrist Jesus.	9 in nome della carità piuttosto ti esorto, io, Paolo, così come sono, vecchio, e ora anche prigioniero di Cristo Gesù.
10 I am appealing to you for a child of mine, whose father I became while wearing these chains: I meanOnesimus.	10 Ti prego per Onèsimo, figlio mio, che ho generato nelle catene,
11 He was of no use to you before, but now he is useful both to you and to me.	11 lui, che un giorno ti fu inutile, ma che ora è utile a te e a me.
12 I am sending him back to you -- that is to say, sending you my own heart.	12 Te lo rimando, lui che mi sta tanto a cuore.
13 I should have liked to keep him with me; he could have been a substitute for you, to help me while Iam in the chains that the gospel has brought me.	13 Avrei voluto tenerlo con me perché mi assistesse al posto tuo, ora che sono in catene per il Vangelo.
14 However, I did not want to do anything without your consent; it would have been forcing your act ofkindness, which should be spontaneous.	14 Ma non ho voluto fare nulla senza il tuo parere, perché il bene che fai non sia forzato, ma volontario.
15 I suppose you have been deprived of Onesimus for a time, merely so that you could have him backfor ever,	15 Per questo forse è stato separato da te per un momento: perché tu lo riavessi per sempre;
16 no longer as a slave, but something much better than a slave, a dear brother; especial y dear to me,but how much more to you, both on the natural plane and in the Lord.	16 non più però come schiavo, ma molto più che schiavo, come fratello carissimo, in primo luogo per me, ma ancora più per te, sia come uomo sia come fratello nel Signore.
17 So if you grant me any fel owship with yourself, welcome him as you would me;	17 Se dunque tu mi consideri amico, accoglilo come me stesso.
18 if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, put it down to my account.	18 E se in qualche cosa ti ha offeso o ti è debitore, metti tutto sul mio conto.
19 I am writing this in my own hand: I, Paul, shal pay it back -- I make no mention of a further debt, thatyou owe your very self to me!	19 Io, Paolo, lo scrivo di mio pugno: pagherò io. Per non dirti che anche tu mi sei debitore, e proprio di te stesso!
20 Wel then, brother, I am counting on you, in the Lord; set my heart at rest, in Christ.	20 Sì, fratello! Che io possa ottenere questo favore nel Signore; da’ questo sollievo al mio cuore, in Cristo!
21 I am writing with complete confidence in your compliance, sure that you wil do even more than I ask.	21 Ti ho scritto fiducioso nella tua docilità, sapendo che farai anche più di quanto ti chiedo.
22 There is another thing: wil you get a place ready for me to stay in? I am hoping through your prayersto be restored to you.	22 Al tempo stesso preparami un alloggio, perché, grazie alle vostre preghiere, spero di essere restituito a voi.
23 Epaphras, a prisoner with me in Christ Jesus, sends his greetings;	23 Ti saluta Èpafra, mio compagno di prigionia in Cristo Gesù,
