1 From Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus and from our brother Timothy; to our dear fel ow workerPhilemon,	1 Paolo, prigioniero di Cristo Gesù, e il fratello Timoteo, al caro Filemone, nostro collaboratore;
2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus and the church that meets in your house.	2 alla carissima sorella Appia, e ad Archippo, nostro compagno d'armi, e alla Chiesa che è in casa tua.
3 Grace and the peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	3 Grazia a voi e pace da Dio Padre nostro e dal Signore Gesù Cristo.
4 I always thank my God, mentioning you in my prayers,	4 Facendo sempre menzione di te nelle mie preghiere, rendo grazie a Dio,
5 because I hear of the love and the faith which you have for the Lord Jesus and for al God's holypeople.	5 perchè sento parlare della carità e della fede che tu hai nel Signore Gesù e verso tutti i santi,
6 I pray that your fel owship in faith may come to expression in ful knowledge of all the good we can dofor Christ.	6 tale che la nostra comune fede vien resa evidente dalla conoscenza di tutte le opere buone che sono in voi per Cristo Gesù.
7 I have received much joy and encouragement by your love; you have set the hearts of God's holypeople at rest.	7 Infatti una gran gioia, una gran consolazione ho avuto nella tua carità, perchè le viscere dei santi ebbero gran sollievo per opera tua, o fratello.
8 Therefore, although in Christ I have no hesitations about telling you what your duty is,	8 Per questo, pur avendo in Cristo molta libertà di comandarti quello che dovresti fare
9 I am rather appealing to your love, being what I am, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner ofChrist Jesus.	9 preferisco pregarti a titolo di carità essendo io Paolo vecchio ed anche per ora prigioniero di Gesù Cristo;
10 I am appealing to you for a child of mine, whose father I became while wearing these chains: I meanOnesimus.	10 ti scongiuro per il mio figliolo che ho generato tra le catene, per Onesimo.
11 He was of no use to you before, but now he is useful both to you and to me.	11 Colui che una volta ti fu disutile, ora sarà e per me e per te utilissimo.
12 I am sending him back to you -- that is to say, sending you my own heart.	12 Te l'ho rimandato, ma tu ricevilo come il mio cuore.
13 I should have liked to keep him with me; he could have been a substitute for you, to help me while Iam in the chains that the gospel has brought me.	13 Veramente l'avrei voluto ritener con me, perchè in vece tua mi servisse tra le catene del Vangelo;
14 However, I did not want to do anything without your consent; it would have been forcing your act ofkindness, which should be spontaneous.	14 ma nulla ho voluto fare senza il tuo parere, affinchè il tuo benefìcio non fosse come forzato, ma volontario.
15 I suppose you have been deprived of Onesimus for a time, merely so that you could have him backfor ever,	15 Forse egli si è allontanato da te per breve tempo, appunto perchè tu lo ricuperassi in eterno,
16 no longer as a slave, but something much better than a slave, a dear brother; especial y dear to me,but how much more to you, both on the natural plane and in the Lord.	16 e non più come schiavo, ma, invece di schiavo, come fratello carissimo, sommamente a me: e molto più a te, secondo la carne e secondo il Signore.
17 So if you grant me any fel owship with yourself, welcome him as you would me;	17 Se dunque mi tieni come tuo intimo amico, accoglilo come se fossi io stesso.
18 if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, put it down to my account.	18 E se t'ha fatto qualche torto o ti deve qualche cosa, mettilo a mio conto.
19 I am writing this in my own hand: I, Paul, shal pay it back -- I make no mention of a further debt, thatyou owe your very self to me!	19 Io Paolo, ho scritto di mio pugno « pagherò » per non dirti che devi a me anche te stesso.
20 Wel then, brother, I am counting on you, in the Lord; set my heart at rest, in Christ.	20 Sì, o fratello, fammi da te questo frutto nel Signore, dona al mio cuore questo sollievo nel Signore!
21 I am writing with complete confidence in your compliance, sure that you wil do even more than I ask.	21 Ti ho scritto sicuro della tua obbedienza e che farai anche più di quel che dico.
22 There is another thing: wil you get a place ready for me to stay in? I am hoping through your prayersto be restored to you.	22 Nel medesimo tempo prepara anche per me la casa, perchè spero, grazie alle vostre preghiere, di esservi ridonato.
23 Epaphras, a prisoner with me in Christ Jesus, sends his greetings;	23 Ti saluta Epafra, mio compagno di prigionia per Cristo Gesù,
24 so do my fellow-workers Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke.	24 Marco, Aristarco, Dema e Luca, miei collaboratori.
