1 From Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus and from our brother Timothy; to our dear fel ow workerPhilemon,	1 Paulus, Gefangener Christi Jesu, und der Bruder Timotheus an unseren geliebten Mitarbeiter Philemon,
2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus and the church that meets in your house.	2 an die Schwester Aphia, an Archippus, unseren Mitstreiter, und an die Gemeinde in deinem Haus:
3 Grace and the peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	3 Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus.
4 I always thank my God, mentioning you in my prayers,	4 Ich danke meinem Gott jedes Mal, wenn ich in meinen Gebeten an dich denke.
5 because I hear of the love and the faith which you have for the Lord Jesus and for al God's holypeople.	5 Denn ich höre von deinem Glauben an Jesus, den Herrn, und von deiner Liebe zu allen Heiligen.
6 I pray that your fel owship in faith may come to expression in ful knowledge of all the good we can dofor Christ.	6 Ich wünsche, dass unser gemeinsamer Glaube in dir wirkt und du all das Gute in uns erkennst, das auf Christus gerichtet ist.
7 I have received much joy and encouragement by your love; you have set the hearts of God's holypeople at rest.	7 Es hat mir viel Freude und Trost bereitet, dass durch dich, Bruder, und durch deine Liebe die Heiligen ermutigt worden sind.
8 Therefore, although in Christ I have no hesitations about telling you what your duty is,	8 Obwohl ich durch Christus volle Freiheit habe, dir zu befehlen, was du tun sollst,
9 I am rather appealing to your love, being what I am, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner ofChrist Jesus.	9 ziehe ich es um der Liebe willen vor, dich zu bitten. Ich, Paulus, ein alter Mann, der jetzt für Christus Jesus im Kerker liegt,
10 I am appealing to you for a child of mine, whose father I became while wearing these chains: I meanOnesimus.	10 ich bitte dich für mein Kind Onesimus, dem ich im Gefängnis zum Vater geworden bin.
11 He was of no use to you before, but now he is useful both to you and to me.	11 Früher konntest du ihn zu nichts gebrauchen, doch jetzt ist er dir und mir recht nützlich.
12 I am sending him back to you -- that is to say, sending you my own heart.	12 Ich schicke ihn zu dir zurück, ihn, das bedeutet mein eigenes Herz.
13 I should have liked to keep him with me; he could have been a substitute for you, to help me while Iam in the chains that the gospel has brought me.	13 Ich würde ihn gern bei mir behalten, damit er mir an deiner Stelle dient, solange ich um des Evangeliums willen im Gefängnis bin.
14 However, I did not want to do anything without your consent; it would have been forcing your act ofkindness, which should be spontaneous.	14 Aber ohne deine Zustimmung wollte ich nichts tun. Deine gute Tat soll nicht erzwungen, sondern freiwillig sein.
15 I suppose you have been deprived of Onesimus for a time, merely so that you could have him backfor ever,	15 Denn vielleicht wurde er nur deshalb eine Weile von dir getrennt, damit du ihn für ewig zurückerhälst,
16 no longer as a slave, but something much better than a slave, a dear brother; especial y dear to me,but how much more to you, both on the natural plane and in the Lord.	16 nicht mehr als Sklaven, sondern als weit mehr: als geliebten Bruder. Das ist er jedenfalls für mich, um wie viel mehr dann für dich, als Mensch und auch vor dem Herrn.
17 So if you grant me any fel owship with yourself, welcome him as you would me;	17 Wenn du dich mir verbunden fühlst, dann nimm ihn also auf wie mich selbst!
18 if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, put it down to my account.	18 Wenn er dich aber geschädigt hat oder dir etwas schuldet, setz das auf meine Rechnung!
19 I am writing this in my own hand: I, Paul, shal pay it back -- I make no mention of a further debt, thatyou owe your very self to me!	19 Ich, Paulus, schreibe mit eigener Hand: Ich werde es bezahlen - um nicht davon zu reden, dass du dich selbst mir schuldest.
20 Wel then, brother, I am counting on you, in the Lord; set my heart at rest, in Christ.	20 Ja, Bruder, um des Herrn willen möchte ich von dir einen Nutzen haben. Erfreue mein Herz; wir gehören beide zu Christus.
21 I am writing with complete confidence in your compliance, sure that you wil do even more than I ask.	21 Ich schreibe dir im Vertrauen auf deinen Gehorsam und weiß, dass du noch mehr tun wirst, als ich gesagt habe.
22 There is another thing: wil you get a place ready for me to stay in? I am hoping through your prayersto be restored to you.	22 Bereite zugleich eine Unterkunft für mich vor! Denn ich hoffe, dass ich euch durch eure Gebete wiedergeschenkt werde.
23 Epaphras, a prisoner with me in Christ Jesus, sends his greetings;	23 Es grüßen dich Epaphras, der mit mir um Christi Jesu willen im Gefängnis ist,
24 so do my fellow-workers Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke.	24 sowie Markus, Aristarch, Demas und Lukas, meine Mitarbeiter.
