1 Timothy 2

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,	1 Obsecro igitur primum omnium fieri obsecrationes, orationes, postulationes, gratiarum actiones, pro omnibus hominibus :
2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.	2 pro regibus, et omnibus qui in sublimitate sunt, ut quietam et tranquillam vitam agamus in omni pietate, et castitate :
3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:	3 hoc enim bonum est, et acceptum coram Salvatore nostro Deo,
4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.	4 qui omnes homines vult salvos fieri, et ad agnitionem veritatis venire.
5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,	5 Unus enim Deus, unus et mediator Dei et hominum homo Christus Jesus :
6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,	6 qui dedit redemptionem semetipsum pro omnibus, testimonium temporibus suis :
7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.	7 in quo positus sum ego prædicator, et Apostolus (veritatem dico, non mentior) doctor gentium in fide, et veritate.
8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.	8 Volo ergo viros orare in omni loco, levantes puras manus sine ira et disceptatione.
9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;	9 Similiter et mulieres in habitu ornato, cum verecundia et sobrietate ornantes se, et non in tortis crinibus, aut auro, aut margaritis, vel veste pretiosa :
10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.	10 sed quod decet mulieres, promittentes pietatem per opera bona.
11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.	11 Mulier in silentio discat cum omni subjectione.
12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,	12 Docere autem mulieri non permitto, neque dominari in virum : sed esse in silentio.
13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,	13 Adam enim primus formatus est : deinde Heva :
14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.	14 et Adam non est seductus : mulier autem seducta in prævaricatione fuit.
15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.	15 Salvabitur autem per filiorum generationem, si permanserit in fide, et dilectione, et sanctificatione cum sobrietate.
