1 Timothy 2

NEW JERUSALEM	LXX
1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,	1 Παρακαλῶ οὖν πρῶτον πάντων ποιεῖσθαι δεήσεις προσευχὰς ἐντεύξεις εὐχαριστίας ὑπὲρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων,
2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.	2 ὑπὲρ βασιλέων καὶ πάντων τῶν ἐν ὑπεροχῇ ὄντων, ἵνα ἤρεμον καὶ ἡσύχιον βίον διάγωμεν ἐν πάσῃ εὐσεβείᾳ καὶ σεμνότητι.
3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:	3 τοῦτο καλὸν καὶ ἀπόδεκτον ἐνώπιον τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν θεοῦ,
4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.	4 ὃς πάντας ἀνθρώπους θέλει σωθῆναι καὶ εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας ἐλθεῖν.
5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,	5 Εἷς γὰρ θεός, εἷς καὶ μεσίτης θεοῦ καὶ ἀνθρώπων, ἄνθρωπος Χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς,
6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,	6 ὁ δοὺς ἑαυτὸν ἀντίλυτρον ὑπὲρ πάντων, τὸ μαρτύριον καιροῖς ἰδίοις.
7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.	7 εἰς ὃ ἐτέθην ἐγὼ κῆρυξ καὶ ἀπόστολος, ἀλήθειαν λέγω οὐ ψεύδομαι, διδάσκαλος ἐθνῶν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀληθείᾳ.
8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.	8 Βούλομαι οὖν προσεύχεσθαι τοὺς ἄνδρας ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ἐπαίροντας ὁσίους χεῖρας χωρὶς ὀργῆς καὶ διαλογισμοῦ.
9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;	9 Ὡσαύτως [καὶ] γυναῖκας ἐν καταστολῇ κοσμίῳ μετὰ αἰδοῦς καὶ σωφροσύνης κοσμεῖν ἑαυτάς, μὴ ἐν πλέγμασιν καὶ χρυσίῳ ἢ μαργαρίταις ἢ ἱματισμῷ πολυτελεῖ,
10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.	10 ἀλλ’ ὃ πρέπει γυναιξὶν ἐπαγγελλομέναις θεοσέβειαν, δι’ ἔργων ἀγαθῶν.
11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.	11 Γυνὴ ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ μανθανέτω ἐν πάσῃ ὑποταγῇ·
12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,	12 διδάσκειν δὲ γυναικὶ οὐκ ἐπιτρέπω οὐδὲ αὐθεντεῖν ἀνδρός, ἀλλ’ εἶναι ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ.
13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,	13 Ἀδὰμ γὰρ πρῶτος ἐπλάσθη, εἶτα Εὕα.
14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.	14 καὶ Ἀδὰμ οὐκ ἠπατήθη, ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἐξαπατηθεῖσα ἐν παραβάσει γέγονεν·
15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.	15 σωθήσεται δὲ διὰ τῆς τεκνογονίας, ἐὰν μείνωσιν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ καὶ ἁγιασμῷ μετὰ σωφροσύνης·
