NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-	1 Si presentarono poi i capi famiglia dei leviti al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè, figlio di Nun e ai capi famiglia delle tribù dei figli d'Israele,
2 they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'	2 e parlarono loro a Silo in terra di Canaan, così: "Il Signore comandò per mezzo di Mosè di darci delle città per abitarvi e i loro dintorni per i nostri greggi".
3 In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:	3 E i figli d'Israele dettero ai leviti, dalle loro porzioni, secondo le disposizioni del Signore, queste città con i loro dintorni.
4 Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;	4 Uscì la sorte per la famiglia dei Keatiti; fra i leviti, ai figli del sacerdote Aronne toccarono in sorte tredici città nella tribù di Giuda, nella tribù di Simeone e nella tribù di Beniamino;
5 to the other sons of Kohath, by clans,	5 ai restanti figli di Keat, secondo le loro famiglie, furono assegnate per sorteggio dieci città nella tribù di Efraim, nella tribù di Dan e nella mezza tribù di Manasse.
6 fel ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. To the sons of Gershon,by clans, fel thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh inBashan.	6 Per i figli di Gherson, secondo le loro famiglie, furono sorteggiate tredici città nella tribù di Issacar, di Aser, di Neftali e nella mezza di Manasse, nel Basan.
7 To the sons of Merari, by clans, fel twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.	7 Ai figli di Merari, secondo le loro famiglie, furono sorteggiate dodici città nelle tribù di Ruben, di Gad e di Zabulon.
8 The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.	8 Così i figli d'Israele sorteggiarono fra i leviti queste città con i loro pascoli, come aveva disposto il Signore per mezzo di Mosè.
9 From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.	9 Essi dettero dalla tribù dei figli di Giuda e dalla tribù dei figli di Simeone quelle città di cui vengono ricordati i nomi;
10 The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.	10 questa fu la porzione per i figli di Aronne, appartenenti alle famiglie levitiche dei Keatiti, per i quali infatti fu estratto il primo sorteggio.
11 They gave them Kiriath-Arba, Anak's father's town -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah, with itssurrounding pasture lands.	11 Furono date loro: Kiriat-Arba, padre di Anak, cioè Ebron, sui monti di Giuda, e i pascoli circostanti.
12 The fields and vil ages of this town, however, they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.	12 Ma i campi della città e i villaggi d'intorno furono dati a Caleb, figlio di Iefunne, in sua proprietà.
13 To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, as wel as Libnah with its pasture lands,	13 Ai figli di Aronne, sacerdoti, furono date le città di rifugio per l'omicida, cioè Ebron e i suoi pascoli, Libna e i suoi pascoli,
14 Jattir with its pasture lands, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands,	14 Iattir e i suoi pascoli, Estemoa e i suoi pascoli,
15 Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,	15 Debir e i suoi pascoli, Olon e i suoi pascoli,
16 Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-Shemesh with its pasture lands:nine towns taken from these two tribes;	16 Ain e i suoi pascoli, Iutta e i suoi pascoli, Bet-Semes e i suoi pascoli: nove città di quelle due tribù.
17 and, from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,	17 Della tribù di Beniamino: Gabaon e i suoi pascoli, Gheba e i suoi pascoli,
18 Anathoth with its pasture lands and Almon with its pasture lands: four towns.	18 Anatot e i suoi pascoli, Almon e i suoi pascoli: quattro città.
19 Total number of towns for the priests, the sons of Aaron: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	19 In tutto, le città dei sacerdoti figli di Aronne furono tredici, con i loro pascoli.
20 As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.	20 Alle famiglie dei leviti figli di Keat, cioè agli altri figli di Keat, furono assegnate per sorteggio alcune città nella tribù di Efraim;
21 They were given Shechem, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, in thehighlands of Ephraim, as wel as Gezer with its pasture lands,	21 fu data loro, come città di rifugio per l'omicida, Sichem e i suoi pascoli sui monti di Efraim; poi Ghezer e i suoi pascoli,
22 Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-Horon with its pasture lands: four towns;	22 Kibzaim e i suoi pascoli, Bet-Oron e i suoi pascoli: quattro città.
23 from the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,	23 Nella tribù di Dan: Elteke e i suoi pascoli; Ghibbeton e i suoi pascoli;
24 Aijalon with its pasture lands and Gath-Rimmon with its pasture lands: four towns;	24 Aialon e i suoi pascoli, Gat-Rimmon e i suoi pascoli: quattro città.
25 and, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasture lands and Jibleam with its pasturelands: two towns.	25 Nella mezza tribù di Manasse: Taanach e i suoi pascoli, Ibleam e i suoi pascoli: due città.

27 To the sons of Gershon, of the levitical clans, were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan inBashan, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, and Ashtaroth with its pasture lands --two towns;	27 Ai figli di Gherson, delle famiglie levitiche, nella mezza tribù di Manasse, come città-rifugio per l'omicida diedero Golan nel Basan, con i suoi pascoli, poi Astarot con i suoi pascoli: due città.

32 and, from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, Hammoth-Dor with its pasture lands and Kartan with its pasture lands -- three towns.	32 Nella tribù di Neftali: la città-rifugio per l'omicida, Kades in Galilea e i suoi pascoli, Cammot-Dor e i suoi pascoli, Kartan e i suoi pascoli: tre città.
33 Total number of towns of the Gershonites, by clans: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	33 In tutto, le città date ai Ghersoniti, secondo le loro famiglie, furono tredici, con i loro pascoli.

36 on the other side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the desert, on thetableland, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasture lands, Jahaz with its pasture lands,	36 Nella tribù di Ruben la città-rifugio per l'omicida: Bezer e i suoi pascoli, Iaaz e i suoi pascoli;
37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands and Mephaath with its pasture lands -- four towns;	37 Kedemot e i suoi pascoli e Mefaat e i suoi pascoli: quattro città.
38 and, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasture lands,	38 Nella tribù di Gad le città-rifugio per l'omicida: Ramot nel Gàlaad e i suoi pascoli, Macanaim e i suoi pascoli,
39 Heshbon with its pasture lands and Jazer with its pasture lands -- four towns.	39 Chesbon e i suoi pascoli, Iazer e i suoi pascoli: in tutto quattro città.
40 Total number of towns forming the lot of the sons of Merari by clans, of the remaining levitical clans:twelve towns.	40 In tutto, le città sorteggiate per i figli di Merari, cioè alle restanti famiglie dei leviti, furono dodici.
41 The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.	41 In tutto, le città dei leviti in mezzo alla proprietà dei figli d'Israele furono quarantotto città con i loro pascoli;
42 These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.	42 ciascuna di queste città comprendeva la città e i pascoli intorno ad essa: così era di tutte quelle città.
43 This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.	43 Così il Signore dette a Israele tutta la terra che aveva giurato di dare ai loro padri; essi la conquistarono e vi si stabilirono.
44 Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.	44 Il Signore dette loro riposo tutt'intorno, secondo quanto aveva giurato ai loro padri; nessuno poté resistere loro fra tutti i loro nemici: il Signore consegnò in loro potere tutti i loro nemici.
45 Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.	45 Non fallì una sola cosa di tutte le buone promesse che il Signore aveva fatto alla casa d'Israele: tutto si compì.
