The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-1 And the leaders of the families of Levi approached Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the rulers of the extended families of each of the tribes of the sons of Israel.
they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'2 And they spoke to them at Shiloh, in the land of Canaan, and they said, “The Lord instructed, by the hand of Moses, that cities should be given to us as habitations, with their suburbs to nourish our cattle.”
In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:3 And so the sons of Israel gave cities and their suburbs from their possessions, in accord with the order of the Lord.
Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;4 And the lot went out for the family of Kohath, of the sons of Aaron, the priest, from the tribes of Judah and Simeon and Benjamin: thirteen cities.
to the other sons of Kohath, by clans,5 And to the remainder of the sons of Kohath, that is, to the Levites who were left over, there went, from the tribes of Ephraim and Dan, and from the one half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.
fel ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. To the sons of Gershon,by clans, fel thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh inBashan.6 And next the lot went out to the sons of Gershon, so that they would receive, from the tribes of Issachar and Asher and Naphtali, and from the one half tribe of Manasseh at Bashan: the number of thirteen cities.
To the sons of Merari, by clans, fel twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.7 And to the sons of Merari, by their families, from the tribes of Reuben and Gad and Zebulun, there went twelve cities.
The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.8 And so the sons of Israel gave cities and their suburbs to the Levites, just as the Lord instructed by the hand of Moses, distributing to each by lot.
From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.9 From the tribes of the sons of Judah and Simeon, Joshua gave cities, whose names are these:
The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.10 to the sons of Aaron, of the families of Kohath of the stock of Levi, (for the first lot went out for them,)
They gave them Kiriath-Arba, Anak's father's town -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah, with itssurrounding pasture lands.11 the city of Arba, the father of Anak, which is called Hebron, on the mountain of Judah, and its surrounding suburbs.
The fields and vil ages of this town, however, they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.12 Yet truly, the fields and its villages he had given to Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, as a possession.
To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, as wel as Libnah with its pasture lands,13 Therefore, he gave to the sons of Aaron the priest, Hebron as a city of refuge, as well as its suburbs, and Libnah, with its suburbs,

and, from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,17 Then, from the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, he gave Gibeon, and Geba,

As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.20 Yet truly, the remainder of the families of the sons of Kohath, of the stock of Levi, were given this possession:

Total number of towns of the Gershonites, by clans: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.33 All the cities of the families of Gershon were thirteen, with their suburbs.
To the clans of the sons of Merari, the remainder of the Levites, fel : from the tribe of Zebulun,Jokneam with its pasture lands, Kartah with its pasture lands,34 Then, to the sons of Merari, Levites of the lesser degree, by their families, were given, from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam and Kartah,

The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.41 And the Lord God gave to Israel all the land that he had sworn he would deliver to their fathers. And they possessed it, and they lived in it.
These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.42 And he gave them peace with all the surrounding nations. And none of their enemies dared to stand against them; instead, they were brought under their sovereignty.
This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.43 Indeed, not so much as one word that he had promised to provide for them was left empty; instead, everything was fulfilled.
Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.
Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.
