1 The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-	1 - I capi delle famiglie di Levi si presentarono al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè figlio di Nun e ai capi di famiglia delle tribù dei figli d'Israele
2 they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'	2 e a loro parlarono in Silo, nella terra di Canaan, in questi termini: «Il Signore comandò per mezzo di Mosè che ci fossero date delle città da abitare coi loro sobborghi per pascere il bestiame».
3 In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:	3 E i figli d'Israele diedero [ai leviti] delle loro proprietà, secondo il comando del Signore, città e sobborghi.
4 Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;	4 Si tirò a sorte per la famiglia di Caat, e ai figli di Aronne sommo sacerdote, furono assegnate tredici città fra le tribù di Giuda, di Simeone e di Beniamino;
5 to the other sons of Kohath, by clans,	5 mentre agli altri figli di Caat, cioè agli altri leviti furono assegnate dieci città delle tribù di Efraim, di Dan e della metà della tribù di Manasse.
6 fel ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. 8 The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.	8 I figli d'Israele diedero così ai leviti le città e i loro sobborghi, secondo il comando dato dal Signore per mezzo di Mosè, assegnandole a ciascuno secondo la sorte.
9 From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.	9 Della tribù dei figli di Giuda e di Simeone diede Giosuè le città che portano i seguenti nomi.
10 The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.	10 Per i figli di Aronne, secondo le loro famiglie, appartenenti alla discendenza del levita Caat (ai quali fu assegnata dalla sorte la prima parte)

20 As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.	20 Al rimanente delle famiglie dei figli di Caat di genere levitico fu dato questo possedimento;
21 They were given Shechem, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, in thehighlands of Ephraim, as wel as Gezer with its pasture lands,	21 della tribù di Efraim la città di rifugio Sichem co' suoi dintorni, situata tra i monti di Efraim, e di più Gazer,

39 Heshbon with its pasture lands and Jazer with its pasture lands -- four towns.	39 In tutto pertanto le città dei leviti in mezzo ai possedimenti dei figli d'Israele furono quarantotto
40 Total number of towns forming the lot of the sons of Merari by clans, of the remaining levitical clans:twelve towns.	40 coi loro sobborghi ed erano distribuite tra le singole famiglie.
41 The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.	41 Così il Signore Iddio diede ad Israele tutte le terre che aveva giurato ai padri di dare loro ed essi le possedettero e vi abitarono,
42 These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.	42 e venne da Dio concessa la pace con tutte le nazioni circostanti e nessuno dei nemici ardì resistere ad essi, ma tutti furon loro assoggettati.
43 This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.	43 Neppur una delle parole che Dio aveva dette andò a vuoto, ma tutte si avverarono.
44 Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.
45 Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.
