NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-	1 Accesseruntque principes familiarum Levi ad Eleazarum sacerdotem et Iosue filium Nun et ad duces cognationum per singulas tribus filiorum Israel
2 they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'	2 locutique sunt ad eos in Silo terrae Chanaan atque dixerunt: “ Dominus praecepit per manum Moysi, ut darentur nobis urbes ad habitandum et suburbana earum ad alenda iumenta ”.
3 In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:	3 Dederuntque filii Israel Levitis de possessionibus suis, iuxta imperium Domini, civitates illas et suburbana earum.
4 Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;	4 Egressaque est sors in familias Caath: et acceperunt filii Aaron sacerdotis de tribubus Iudae et Simeon et Beniamin civitates tredecim.
5 to the other sons of Kohath, by clans,	5 Et reliqui filiorum Caath, id est Levitae, acceperunt de tribubus Ephraim et Dan et dimidia tribu Manasse civitates decem.
6 fel ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. To the sons of Gershon,by clans, fel thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh inBashan.	6 Porro filiis Gerson egressa est sors, ut acciperent de tribubus Issachar et Aser et Nephthali dimidiaque tribu Manasse in Basan civitates numero tredecim.
7 To the sons of Merari, by clans, fel twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.	7 Et filiis Merari per cognationes suas de tribubus Ruben et Gad et Zabulon urbes duodecim.
8 The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.	8 Dederuntque filii Israel Levitis civitates illas et suburbana earum, sicut praecepit Dominus per manum Moysi, singulis sorte tribuentes.
9 From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.	9 De tribubus filiorum Iudae et Simeon dederunt civitates, quarum ista sunt nomina,
10 The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.	10 filiis Aaron ex familiis Caath levitici generis — prima enim sors illis egressa est C:
11 They gave them Kiriath-Arba, Anak's father's town -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah, with itssurrounding pasture lands.	11 Cariatharbe (id est civitas Arbe), patris Enac, quae vocatur Hebron, in monte Iudae et suburbana eius per circuitum.
12 The fields and vil ages of this town, however, they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.	12 Agros vero et villas eius dederant Chaleb filio Iephonne ad possidendum.
13 To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, as wel as Libnah with its pasture lands,	13 Dederunt ergo filiis Aaron sacerdotis Hebron confugii civitatem ac suburbana eius et Lobnam cum suburbanis suis
14 Jattir with its pasture lands, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands,	14 et Iether et Esthemo
15 Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,	15 et Helon et Dabir
16 Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-Shemesh with its pasture lands:nine towns taken from these two tribes;	16 et Ain et Iutta et Bethsames cum suburbanis suis: civitates novem de tribubus illis duabus.
17 and, from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,	17 De tribu autem Beniamin Gabaon et Gabaa
18 Anathoth with its pasture lands and Almon with its pasture lands: four towns.	18 et Anathoth et Almath cum suburbanis suis: civitates quattuor.
19 Total number of towns for the priests, the sons of Aaron: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	19 Omnes simul civitates filiorum Aaron sacerdotis tredecim cum suburbanis suis.
20 As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.	20 Reliquis vero ex familiis filiorum Caath Levitis haec est data possessio:
21 They were given Shechem, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, in thehighlands of Ephraim, as wel as Gezer with its pasture lands,	21 de tribu Ephraim urbs confugii Sichem cum suburbanis suis in monte Ephraim et Gazer
22 Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-Horon with its pasture lands: four towns;	22 et Cibsaim et Bethoron cum suburbanis suis: civitates quattuor.
23 from the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,	23 De tribu quoque Dan Elthece et Gebbethon
24 Aijalon with its pasture lands and Gath-Rimmon with its pasture lands: four towns;	24 et Aialon et Gethremmon cum suburbanis suis: civitates quattuor.
25 and, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasture lands and Jibleam with its pasturelands: two towns.	25 Porro de dimidia tribu Manasse Thanach et Gethremmon cum suburbanis suis: civitates duae.
26 In al : ten towns with their pasture lands for the remaining clans of the sons of Kohath.	26 Omnes civitates decem et suburbana earum datae sunt filiis Caath inferioris gradus.
27 To the sons of Gershon, of the levitical clans, were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan inBashan, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, and Ashtaroth with its pasture lands --two towns;	27 Filiis quoque Gerson levitici generis dederunt de dimidia tribu Manasse confugii civitatem Golan in Basan et Astharoth cum suburbanis suis: civitates duas.
28 from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasture lands, Dobrath with its pasture lands,	28 Porro de tribu Issachar Cesion et Dabereth
29 Jarmuth with its pasture lands and En-Gannim with its pasture lands -- four towns;	29 et Iaramoth et Engannim cum suburbanis suis: civitates quattuor.
30 from the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,	30 De tribu autem Aser Masal et Abdon
31 Helkath with its pasture lands and Rehob with its pasture lands -- four towns;	31 et Helcath et Rohob cum suburbanis suis: civitates quattuor.
32 and, from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, Hammoth-Dor with its pasture lands and Kartan with its pasture lands -- three towns.	32 De tribu quoque Nephthali civitas confugii Cedes in Galilaea et Ammothdor et Carthan cum suburbanis suis: civitates tres.
33 Total number of towns of the Gershonites, by clans: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	33 Omnes urbes familiarum Gerson tredecim cum suburbanis suis.
34 To the clans of the sons of Merari, the remainder of the Levites, fel : from the tribe of Zebulun,Jokneam with its pasture lands, Kartah with its pasture lands,	34 Filiis autem Merari Levitis inferioris gradus per familias suas data est de tribu Zabulon Iecnaam et Cartha
35 Rimmon with its pasture lands and Nahalal with its pasture lands -- four towns;	35 et Remmon et Naalol: civitates quattuor cum suburbanis suis.
36 on the other side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the desert, on thetableland, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasture lands, Jahaz with its pasture lands,	36 De tribu Ruben ultra Iordanem contra Iericho civitas refugii Bosor in solitudine planitiei et Iasa
37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands and Mephaath with its pasture lands -- four towns;	37 et Cademoth et Mephaath: civitates quattuor cum suburbanis suis.
38 and, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasture lands,	38 Et de tribu Gad civitas confugii Ramoth in Galaad et Mahanaim
39 Heshbon with its pasture lands and Jazer with its pasture lands -- four towns.	39 et Hesebon et Iazer: civitates quattuor cum suburbanis suis.
40 Total number of towns forming the lot of the sons of Merari by clans, of the remaining levitical clans:twelve towns.	40 Omnes urbes filiorum Merari per familias reliquas de cognationibus Levitarum duodecim.
41 The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.	41 Itaque universae civitates Levitarum in medio possessionis filiorum Israel fuerunt quadraginta octo
42 These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.	42 cum suburbanis suis, singulae cum suburbanis suis in circuitu.
43 This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.	43 Deditque Dominus Israeli omnem terram, quam traditurum se patribus eorum iuraverat, et possederunt illam atque habitaverunt in ea.
44 Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.	44 Deditque Dominus eis requiem secundum omnia, quae iuraverat patribus eorum, nullusque eis hostium resistere ausus est, sed cunctos in eorum dicionem redegit.
45 Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.	45 Ne unum quidem verbum bonum, quod locutus est ad domum Israel, irritum fuit, sed rebus expleta sunt omnia.
