NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-	1 Les chefs de famille des Lévites s’approchèrent du prêtre Éléazar, de Josué fils de Noun et des chefs de clans des tribus d’Israël
2 they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'	2 à Silo, au pays de Canaan, et ils leur dirent: “Yahvé a ordonné par la voix de Moïse de nous donner des villes pour y habiter et des pâturages pour notre bétail.”
3 In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:	3 Les Israélites donnèrent donc aux Lévites sur leur part, selon l’ordre de Yahvé, les villes suivantes avec leurs pâturages.
4 Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;	4 On tira au sort pour les clans des Kahatites, lévites fils du prêtre Aaron. Ils reçurent 13 villes dans les tribus de Juda, de Siméon et de Benjamin.
5 to the other sons of Kohath, by clans,	5 Les autres fils de Kahat reçurent selon leurs clans, 10 villes dans les tribus d’Éphraïm, de Dan et dans la demi-tribu de Manassé.
6 fel ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. To the sons of Gershon,by clans, fel thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh inBashan.	6 Les fils de Guerchon reçurent selon leurs clans 13 villes dans les tribus d’Issacar, d’Asher, de Nephtali et dans la demi-tribu de Manassé installée au Bashan.
7 To the sons of Merari, by clans, fel twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.	7 Les fils de Mérari reçurent selon leurs clans 12 villes dans les tribus de Ruben, de Gad et de Zabulon.
8 The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.	8 Les Israélites attribuèrent donc par le sort ces villes et ces pâturages aux Lévites, comme Yahvé l’avait ordonné par la bouche de Moïse.
9 From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.	9 Voici les noms des villes qu’ils donnèrent dans la tribu de Juda et dans la tribu de Siméon.
10 The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.	10 La première part fut pour les fils d’Aaron appartenant au clan des Kahatites, de la tribu de Lévi.
11 They gave them Kiriath-Arba, Anak's father's town -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah, with itssurrounding pasture lands.	11 Dans la montagne de Juda, ils leur donnèrent Kiryat-Arba avec ses pâturages, c’était la ville du père d’Anak (aujourd’hui c’est Hébron).
12 The fields and vil ages of this town, however, they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.	12 Mais ils donnèrent en propriété à Caleb, fils de Yéfouné la campagne de cette ville et ses villages.
13 To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, as wel as Libnah with its pasture lands,	13 Ils donnèrent aux fils du prêtre Aaron, Hébron et ses pâturages (Hébron était une ville de refuge pour les meurtriers), Libna et ses pâturages,
14 Jattir with its pasture lands, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands,	14 Yattir et ses pâturages, Echtémoa et ses pâturages,
15 Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,	15 Holon et ses pâturages, Débir et ses pâturages,
16 Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-Shemesh with its pasture lands:nine towns taken from these two tribes;	16 Achan et ses pâturages, Youta et ses pâturages et Beth-Chémech et ses pâturages: 9 villes prises dans ces deux tribus.
17 and, from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,	17 De la tribu de Benjamin: Gabaon et ses pâturages, Guéba et ses pâturages,
18 Anathoth with its pasture lands and Almon with its pasture lands: four towns.	18 Anatot et ses pâturages et Almon et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
19 Total number of towns for the priests, the sons of Aaron: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	19 Le total des villes pour les prêtres, fils d’Aaron, fut de 13 villes avec leurs pâturages.
20 As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.	20 Pour les autres clans des fils de Kahat, pour les Lévites qui restaient parmi les fils de Kahat, on prit des villes sur la tribu d’Éphraïm.
21 They were given Shechem, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, in thehighlands of Ephraim, as wel as Gezer with its pasture lands,	21 On leur donna Sichem et ses pâturages, dans la montagne d’Éphraïm (c’était une ville de refuge pour les meurtriers), Guézer et ses pâturages,
22 Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-Horon with its pasture lands: four towns;	22 Kibsayim et ses pâturages et Beth-Horon et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
23 from the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,	23 Dans la tribu de Dan: Elteké et ses pâturages, Guibéton et ses pâturages,
24 Aijalon with its pasture lands and Gath-Rimmon with its pasture lands: four towns;	24 Ayyalon et ses pâturages et Gat-Rimmon et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
25 and, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasture lands and Jibleam with its pasturelands: two towns.	25 Dans la demi-tribu de Manassé: Tanak et ses pâturages et Yibléam et ses pâturages: deux villes.
26 In al : ten towns with their pasture lands for the remaining clans of the sons of Kohath.	26 Le total fut de 10 villes avec leurs pâturages pour les clans qui restaient parmi les fils de Kahat.
27 To the sons of Gershon, of the levitical clans, were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan inBashan, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, and Ashtaroth with its pasture lands --two towns;	27 Aux fils de Guerchon qui appartenaient au clan de Lévi, on donna Golan en Bashan (c’était une ville de refuge pour les meurtriers) et Achtarot avec leurs pâturages, dans la demi-tribu de Manassé: deux villes.
28 from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasture lands, Dobrath with its pasture lands,	28 Dans la tribu d’Issacar: Kichyon et ses pâturages, Dabérat et ses pâturages,
29 Jarmuth with its pasture lands and En-Gannim with its pasture lands -- four towns;	29 Yarmout et ses pâturages et En-Gannim et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
30 from the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,	30 Dans la tribu d’Asher: Michéal et ses pâturages, Abdon et ses pâturages,
31 Helkath with its pasture lands and Rehob with its pasture lands -- four towns;	31 Helkat et ses pâturages et Réhob et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
32 and, from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, Hammoth-Dor with its pasture lands and Kartan with its pasture lands -- three towns.	32 Dans la tribu de Nephtali: Qédesh en Galilée (c’était une ville de refuge pour les meurtriers) et ses pâturages, Hammot-Dor et ses pâturages et Kartan et ses pâturages: trois villes.
33 Total number of towns of the Gershonites, by clans: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	33 Le total des villes pour les clans de Guerchon fut de 13 villes et leurs pâturages.
34 To the clans of the sons of Merari, the remainder of the Levites, fel : from the tribe of Zebulun,Jokneam with its pasture lands, Kartah with its pasture lands,	34 On attribua au clan des fils de Mérari, au reste des Lévites, dans la tribu de Zabulon: Yoknéam et ses pâturages, Karta et ses pâturages,
35 Rimmon with its pasture lands and Nahalal with its pasture lands -- four towns;	35 Rimmon et ses pâturages et Nahalal et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
36 on the other side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the desert, on thetableland, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasture lands, Jahaz with its pasture lands,	36 De l’autre côté du Jourdain, en face de Jéricho, dans la tribu de Ruben: Béser dans le désert, sur le plateau (c’était une ville de refuge pour les meurtriers) et ses pâturages, Yahas et ses pâturages,
37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands and Mephaath with its pasture lands -- four towns;	37 Kédémot et ses pâturages et Méfaat et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
38 and, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasture lands,	38 Dans la tribu de Gad: Ramot en Galaad (c’était une ville de refuge pour les meurtriers) et ses pâturages, Mahanayim et ses pâturages,
39 Heshbon with its pasture lands and Jazer with its pasture lands -- four towns.	39 Heshbon et ses pâturages et Yazer et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
40 Total number of towns forming the lot of the sons of Merari by clans, of the remaining levitical clans:twelve towns.	40 Le total des villes qui furent attribuées au clan des fils de Mérari, le reste des clans de Lévi, fut de 12 villes.
41 The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.	41 Le nombre total des villes attribuées aux Lévites au milieu des territoires des Israélites était de 48 villes avec leurs pâturages.
42 These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.	42 Ces villes comprenaient chacune la ville et les pâturages qui l’entouraient, il en était ainsi pour toutes les villes.
43 This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.	43 Ainsi Yahvé donna aux Israélites tout le pays qu’il avait juré à leurs pères de leur donner, ils en prirent possession et s’y installèrent.
44 Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.	44 Yahvé leur accorda la paix sur toutes leurs frontières, comme il l’avait juré à leurs pères, et aucun de leurs ennemis ne put tenir devant eux. Yahvé livra entre leurs mains tous leurs ennemis.
45 Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.	45 Aucune des promesses que Yahvé avait faites à la maison d’Israël ne fut oubliée: tout se réalisa.
