1 The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-	1 ויגשו ראשי אבות הלוים אל אלעזר הכהן ואל יהושע בן נון ואל ראשי אבות המטות לבני ישראל
2 they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'	2 וידברו אליהם בשלה בארץ כנען לאמר יהוה צוה ביד משה לתת לנו ערים לשבת ומגרשיהן לבהמתנו
3 In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:	3 ויתנו בני ישראל ללוים מנחלתם אל פי יהוה את הערים האלה ואת מגרשיהן
4 Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;	4 ויצא הגורל למשפחת הקהתי ויהי לבני אהרן הכהן מן הלוים ממטה יהודה וממטה השמעני וממטה בנימן בגורל ערים שלש עשרה
5 to the other sons of Kohath, by clans,	5 ולבני קהת הנותרים ממשפחת מטה אפרים וממטה דן ומחצי מטה מנשה בגורל ערים עשר
6 fel ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. To the sons of Gershon,by clans, fel thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh inBashan.	6 ולבני גרשון ממשפחות מטה יששכר וממטה אשר וממטה נפתלי ומחצי מטה מנשה בבשן בגורל ערים שלש עשרה
7 To the sons of Merari, by clans, fel twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.	7 לבני מררי למשפחתם ממטה ראובן וממטה גד וממטה זבולן ערים שתים עשרה
8 The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.	8 ויתנו בני ישראל ללוים את הערים האלה ואת מגרשיהן כאשר צוה יהוה ביד משה בגורל
9 From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.	9 ויתנו ממטה בני יהודה וממטה בני שמעון את הערים האלה אשר יקרא אתהן בשם
10 The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.	10 ויהי לבני אהרן ממשפחות הקהתי מבני לוי כי להם היה הגורל ראישנה
11 They gave them Kiriath-Arba, Anak's father's town -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah, with itssurrounding pasture lands.	11 ויתנו להם את קרית ארבע אבי הענוק היא חברון בהר יהודה ואת מגרשה סביבתיה
12 The fields and vil ages of this town, however, they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his property.	12 ואת שדה העיר ואת חצריה נתנו לכלב בן יפנה באחזתו
13 To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, as wel as Libnah with its pasture lands,	13 ולבני אהרן הכהן נתנו את עיר מקלט הרצח את חברון ואת מגרשה ואת לבנה ואת מגרשה
14 Jattir with its pasture lands, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands,	14 ואת יתר ואת מגרשה ואת אשתמע ואת מגרשה
15 Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,	15 ואת חלן ואת מגרשה ואת דבר ואת מגרשה
16 Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-Shemesh with its pasture lands:nine towns taken from these two tribes;	16 ואת עין ואת מגרשה ואת יטה ואת מגרשה את בית שמש ואת מגרשה ערים תשע מאת שני השבטים האלה
17 and, from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,	17 וממטה בנימן את גבעון ואת מגרשה את גבע ואת מגרשה
18 Anathoth with its pasture lands and Almon with its pasture lands: four towns.	18 את ענתות ואת מגרשה ואת עלמון ואת מגרשה ערים ארבע
19 Total number of towns for the priests, the sons of Aaron: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	19 כל ערי בני אהרן הכהנים שלש עשרה ערים ומגרשיהן
20 As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.	20 ולמשפחות בני קהת הלוים הנותרים מבני קהת ויהי ערי גורלם ממטה אפרים
21 They were given Shechem, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, in thehighlands of Ephraim, as wel as Gezer with its pasture lands,	21 ויתנו להם את עיר מקלט הרצח את שכם ואת מגרשה בהר אפרים ואת גזר ואת מגרשה
22 Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-Horon with its pasture lands: four towns;	22 ואת קבצים ואת מגרשה ואת בית חורן ואת מגרשה ערים ארבע
23 from the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,	23 וממטה דן את אלתקא ואת מגרשה את גבתון ואת מגרשה
24 Aijalon with its pasture lands and Gath-Rimmon with its pasture lands: four towns;	24 את אילון ואת מגרשה את גת רמון ואת מגרשה ערים ארבע
25 and, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasture lands and Jibleam with its pasturelands: two towns.	25 וממחצית מטה מנשה את תענך ואת מגרשה ואת גת רמון ואת מגרשה ערים שתים
26 In al : ten towns with their pasture lands for the remaining clans of the sons of Kohath.	26 כל ערים עשר ומגרשיהן למשפחות בני קהת הנותרים
27 To the sons of Gershon, of the levitical clans, were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan inBashan, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, and Ashtaroth with its pasture lands --two towns;	27 ולבני גרשון ממשפחת הלוים מחצי מטה מנשה את עיר מקלט הרצח את גלון בבשן ואת מגרשה ואת בעשתרה ואת מגרשה ערים שתים
28 from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasture lands, Dobrath with its pasture lands,	28 וממטה יששכר את קשיון ואת מגרשה את דברת ואת מגרשה
29 Jarmuth with its pasture lands and En-Gannim with its pasture lands -- four towns;	29 את ירמות ואת מגרשה את עין גנים ואת מגרשה ערים ארבע
30 from the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,	30 וממטה אשר את משאל ואת מגרשה את עבדון ואת מגרשה
31 Helkath with its pasture lands and Rehob with its pasture lands -- four towns;	31 את חלקת ואת מגרשה ואת רחב ואת מגרשה ערים ארבע
32 and, from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, Hammoth-Dor with its pasture lands and Kartan with its pasture lands -- three towns.	32 וממטה נפתלי את עיר מקלט הרצח את קדש בגליל ואת מגרשה ואת חמת דאר ואת מגרשה ואת קרתן ואת מגרשה ערים שלש
33 Total number of towns of the Gershonites, by clans: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.	33 כל ערי הגרשני למשפחתם שלש עשרה עיר ומגרשיהן
34 To the clans of the sons of Merari, the remainder of the Levites, fel : from the tribe of Zebulun,Jokneam with its pasture lands, Kartah with its pasture lands,	34 ולמשפחות בני מררי הלוים הנותרים מאת מטה זבולן את יקנעם ואת מגרשה את קרתה ואת מגרשה
35 Rimmon with its pasture lands and Nahalal with its pasture lands -- four towns;	35 את דמנה ואת מגרשה את נהלל ואת מגרשה ערים ארבע
36 on the other side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the desert, on thetableland, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasture lands, Jahaz with its pasture lands,	36 וממטה ראובן את בצר ואת מגרשה ואת יהצה ואת מגרשה
37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands and Mephaath with its pasture lands -- four towns;	37 את קדמות ואת מגרשה ואת מיפעת ואת מגרשה ערים ארבע
38 and, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasture lands,	38 וממטה גד את עיר מקלט הרצח את רמת בגלעד ואת מגרשה ואת מחנים ואת מגרשה
39 Heshbon with its pasture lands and Jazer with its pasture lands -- four towns.	39 את חשבון ואת מגרשה את יעזר ואת מגרשה כל ערים ארבע
40 Total number of towns forming the lot of the sons of Merari by clans, of the remaining levitical clans:twelve towns.	40 כל הערים לבני מררי למשפחתם הנותרים ממשפחות הלוים ויהי גורלם ערים שתים עשרה
41 The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.	41 כל ערי הלוים בתוך אחזת בני ישראל ערים ארבעים ושמנה ומגרשיהן
42 These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.	42 תהיינה הערים האלה עיר עיר ומגרשיה סביבתיה כן לכל הערים האלה
43 This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.	43 ויתן יהוה לישראל את כל הארץ אשר נשבע לתת לאבותם וירשוה וישבו בה
44 Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.	44 וינח יהוה להם מסביב ככל אשר נשבע לאבותם ולא עמד איש בפניהם מכל איביהם את כל איביהם נתן יהוה בידם
45 Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.	45 לא נפל דבר מכל הדבר הטוב אשר דבר יהוה אל בית ישראל הכל בא
