Children, be obedient to your parents in the Lord -- that is what uprightness demands.1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is just.
The first commandment that has a promise attached to it is: Honour your father and your mother,2 Honor your father and your mother. This is the first commandment with a promise:
and the promise is: so that you may have long life and prosper in the land.3 so that it may be well with you, and so that you may have a long life upon the earth.
And parents, never drive your children to resentment but bring them up with correction and adviceinspired by the Lord.4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but educate them with the discipline and correction of the Lord.
Slaves, be obedient to those who are, according to human reckoning, your masters, with deep respectand sincere loyalty, as you are obedient to Christ:5 Servants, be obedient to your lords according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ.
not only when you are under their eye, as if you had only to please human beings, but as slaves ofChrist who wholeheartedly do the wil of God.6 Do not serve only when seen, as if to please men, but act as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.
Work wil ingly for the sake of the Lord and not for the sake of human beings.7 Serve with good will, as to the Lord, and not to men.
Never forget that everyone, whether a slave or a free man, wil be rewarded by the Lord for whateverwork he has done wel .8 For you know that whatever good each one will do, the same will he receive from the Lord, whether he is servant or free.
And those of you who are employers, treat your slaves in the same spirit; do without threats, and neverforget that they and you have the same Master in heaven and there is no favouritism with him.9 And you, lords, act similarly toward them, setting aside threats, knowing that the Lord of both you and them is in heaven. For with him there is no favoritism toward anyone.
Finally, grow strong in the Lord, with the strength of his power.10 Concerning the rest, brothers, be strengthened in the Lord, by the power of his virtue.
Put on the ful armour of God so as to be able to resist the devil's tactics.11 Be clothed in the armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the treachery of the devil.
For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the principalities and theruling forces who are masters of the darkness in this world, the spirits of evil in the heavens.12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the directors of this world of darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in high places.
That is why you must take up al God's armour, or you wil not be able to put up any resistance on theevil day, or stand your ground even though you exert yourselves to the ful .13 Because of this, take up the armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand the evil day and remain perfect in all things.
So stand your ground, with truth a belt round your waist, and uprightness a breastplate,14 Therefore, stand firm, having been girded about your waist with truth, and having been clothed with the breastplate of justice,
wearing for shoes on your feet the eagerness to spread the gospel of peace15 and having feet which have been shod by the preparation of the Gospel of peace.
and always carrying the shield of faith so that you can use it to quench the burning arrows of the EvilOne.16 In all things, take up the shield of faith, with which you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.
And then you must take salvation as your helmet and the sword of the Spirit, that is, the word of God.17 And take up the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God).
In al your prayer and entreaty keep praying in the Spirit on every possible occasion. Never get tired ofstaying awake to pray for al God's holy people,18 Through every kind of prayer and supplication, pray at all times in spirit, and so be vigilant with every kind of earnest supplication, for all the saints,
and pray for me to be given an opportunity to open my mouth and fearlessly make known the mysteryof the gospel19 and also for me, so that words may be given to me, as I open my mouth with faith to make known the mystery of the Gospel,
of which I am an ambassador in chains; pray that in proclaiming it I may speak as fearlessly as I oughtto.20 in such a manner that I may dare to speak exactly as I ought to speak. For I act as an ambassador in chains for the Gospel.
So that you know, as well, what is happening to me and what I am doing, my dear friend Tychicus, mytrustworthy helper in the Lord, wil tel you everything.21 Now, so that you also may know the things that concern me and what I am doing, Tychicus, a most beloved brother and a faithful minister in the Lord, will make known everything to you.
I am sending him to you precisely for this purpose, to give you news about us and encourage youthoroughly.22 I have sent him to you for this very reason, so that you may know the things that concern us, and so that he may console your hearts.
May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ grant peace, love and faith to al the brothers.23 Peace to the brothers, and charity with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
May grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ, in life imperishable.24 May grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ, unto incorruption. Amen.
