John 5

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 After this there was a Jewish festival, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	1 Dopo questi avvenimenti, c'era una festa dei Giudei e Gesù salì a Gerusalemme.
2 Now in Jerusalem next to the Sheep Pool there is a pool called Bethesda in Hebrew, which has fiveporticos;	2 A Gerusalemme, presso la porta delle pecore, c'è una piscina, chiamata in ebraico Betesda, con cinque portici.
3 and under these were crowds of sick people, blind, lame, paralysed.	3 Sotto questi portici giaceva una moltitudine di infermi, ciechi, zoppi, invalidi (che aspettavano il movimento dell'acqua.
4	4 Un angelo infatti ad intervalli scendeva nella piscina e agitava l'acqua: il primo ad entrarvi dopo l'agitazione dell'acqua guariva da qualsiasi malattia).
5 One man there had an il ness which had lasted thirty-eight years,	5 C'era là un uomo infermo da trentotto anni.
6 and when Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had been in that condition for a long time, he said,'Do you want to be wel again?'	6 Gesù, vistolo disteso e saputo che si trovava già da molto tempo in quello stato, gli dice: "Vuoi guarire?".
7 'Sir,' replied the sick man, 'I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is disturbed; and while Iam stil on the way, someone else gets down there before me.'	7 Gli rispose l'infermo: "Signore, non ho un uomo che mi getti nella piscina quando l'acqua viene agitata; e, mentre io mi avvio per andare, un altro vi scende prima di me".
8 Jesus said, 'Get up, pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around.'	8 Gli dice Gesù: "A'lzati, prendi il tuo giaciglio e cammina".
9 The man was cured at once, and he picked up his mat and started to walk around. Now that dayhappened to be the Sabbath,	9 L'uomo fu guarito all'istante, prese il suo giaciglio e camminava. Ma quel giorno era sabato.
10 so the Jews said to the man who had been cured, 'It is the Sabbath; you are not al owed to carry yoursleeping-mat.'	10 Dicevano dunque i Giudei al guarito: "E' sabato e non ti è lecito portare il tuo giaciglio".
11 He replied, 'But the man who cured me told me, "Pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around." '	11 Egli rispose loro: "Colui che mi ha guarito, mi ha detto: "Prendi il tuo giaciglio e cammina".
12 They asked, 'Who is the man who said to you, "Pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around"? '	12 Gli domandarono: "Chi è l'uomo che ti ha detto: "Prendi e cammina"?".
13 The man had no idea who it was, since Jesus had disappeared, as the place was crowded.	13 Ma colui che era stato guarito non sapeva chi era, perché Gesù si era eclissato grazie alla folla che c'era in quel luogo.
14 After a while Jesus met him in the Temple and said, 'Now you are wel again, do not sin any more, orsomething worse may happen to you.'	14 Più tardi Gesù lo trovò nel tempio e gli disse: "Ecco che sei guarito. Non peccare più, perché non ti avvenga di peggio".
15 The man went back and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had cured him.	15 L'uomo se ne andò e riferì ai Giudei che era Gesù colui che l'aveva guarito.
16 It was because he did things like this on the Sabbath that the Jews began to harass Jesus.	16 Per questo i Giudei perseguitavano Gesù, perché faceva queste cose di sabato.
17 His answer to them was, 'My Father stil goes on working, and I am at work, too.'	17 Ma Gesù rispose loro: "Mio Padre è all'opera fino ad ora ed anch'io sono all'opera".
18 But that only made the Jews even more intent on kil ing him, because not only was he breaking theSabbath, but he spoke of God as his own Father and so made himself God's equal.	18 Per questo i Giudei cercavano ancor più di ucciderlo, perché non solo violava il sabato, ma diceva che Dio era suo Padre, facendo se stesso uguale a Dio.
19 To this Jesus replied: In al truth I tel you, by himself the Son can do nothing; he can do only what hesees the Father doing: and whatever the Father does the Son does too.	19 Gesù rispose e diceva loro: "In verità, in verità vi dico: il Figlio non può fare nulla da se stesso se non ciò che vede il Padre fare. Ciò infatti che fa lui, lo fa ugualmente il Figlio.
20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he himself does, and he wil show him evengreater things than these, works that will astonish you.	20 Il Padre infatti ama il Figlio e gli mostra tutto ciò che egli fa, ed opere più grandi di queste gli mostrerà, in modo che voi ne rimaniate stupiti.
21 Thus, as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son gives life to anyone he chooses;	21 Come infatti il Padre risuscita i morti e dà la vita, così anche il Figlio dà la vita a coloro che vuole.
22 for the Father judges no one; he has entrusted all judgement to the Son,	22 Il Padre infatti non giudica nessuno, ma ha dato tutto il giudizio al Figlio,
23 so that al may honour the Son as they honour the Father. Whoever refuses honour to the Son refuseshonour to the Father who sent him.	23 affinché tutti onorino il Figlio come onorano il Padre. Colui che non onora il Figlio, non onora il Padre che l'ha mandato.
24 In al truth I tel you, whoever listens to my words, and believes in the one who sent me, has eternallife; without being brought to judgement such a person has passed from death to life.	24 In verità, in verità vi dico: chi ascolta la mia parola e crede a Colui che mi ha mandato, ha la vita eterna e non incorre nel giudizio, ma è passato dalla morte alla vita.
25 In al truth I tel you, the hour is coming -- indeed it is already here -- when the dead wil hear the voiceof the Son of God, and al who hear it wil live.	25 In verità, in verità vi dico: viene un'ora, ed è adesso, in cui i morti udranno la voce del Figlio di Dio e coloro che l'avranno ascoltata vivranno.
26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself;	26 Come infatti il Padre ha la vita in se stesso, così ha dato anche al Figlio di avere la vita in se stesso;
27 and, because he is the Son of man, has granted him power to give judgement.	27 e gli ha dato il potere di fare il giudizio, perché è Figlio dell'uomo.
28 Do not be surprised at this, for the hour is coming when the dead wil leave their graves at the sound ofhis voice:	28 Non stupitevi di ciò: viene un'ora in cui tutti coloro che sono nei sepolcri ascolteranno la sua voce
29 those who did good will come forth to life; and those who did evil will come forth to judgement.	29 e coloro che hanno fatto il bene ne usciranno per la risurrezione della vita, coloro che hanno praticato il male per la risurrezione del giudizio.
30 By myself I can do nothing; I can judge only as I am told to judge, and my judging is just, because Iseek to do not my own wil but the wil of him who sent me.	30 Io non posso fare nulla da me stesso. Come ascolto giudico e il mio giudizio è giusto, perché non cerco la mia volontà, ma la volontà di Colui che mi ha mandato".
31 Were I to testify on my own behalf, my testimony would not be true;	31 "Se io rendo testimonianza a me stesso, la mia testimonianza non è valida.
32 but there is another witness who speaks on my behalf, and I know that his testimony is true.	32 C'è un altro che mi rende testimonianza e so che è vera la testimonianza che mi rende.
33 You sent messengers to John, and he gave his testimony to the truth-	33 Voi avete inviato una delegazione a Giovanni ed egli ha reso testimonianza alla verità.
34 not that I depend on human testimony; no, it is for your salvation that I mention it.	34 Io però non accetto la testimonianza di un uomo, ma dico questo perché voi siate salvati.
35 John was a lamp lit and shining and for a time you were content to enjoy the light that he gave.	35 Egli era la lampada ardente e splendente e vi siete voluti rallegrare per poco alla sua luce.
36 But my testimony is greater than John's: the deeds my Father has given me to perform, these samedeeds of mine testify that the Father has sent me.	36 Ma io ho l'altra testimonianza, più grande di quella di Giovanni, cioè le opere che il Padre mi ha dato da portare a compimento, queste stesse opere, che io faccio, mi rendono testimonianza che il Padre mi ha mandato.
37 Besides, the Father who sent me bears witness to me himself. You have never heard his voice, youhave never seen his shape,	37 E anche il Padre che mi ha mandato mi ha reso testimonianza. Voi non avete mai ascoltato la sua voce né avete mai visto la sua figura
38 and his word finds no home in you because you do not believe in the one whom he has sent.	38 e non avete la sua parola che rimane in voi, perché voi non credete a colui che egli ha mandato.
39 You pore over the scriptures, believing that in them you can find eternal life; it is these scriptures thattestify to me,	39 Voi scrutate le Scritture, perché per mezzo di esse pensate di avere la vita eterna: sono proprio esse che mi rendono testimonianza.
40 and yet you refuse to come to me to receive life!	40 Ma voi non volete venire a me per avere la vita.
41 Human glory means nothing to me.	41 Io non accetto la gloria dagli uomini,
42 Besides, I know you too well: you have no love of God in you.	42 ma io vi ho conosciuto: non avete in voi l'amore di Dio.
43 I have come in the name of my Father and you refuse to accept me; if someone else should come inhis own name you would accept him.	43 Io sono venuto nel nome del Padre mio e voi non mi accogliete. Se venisse un altro nel suo proprio nome, lo accogliereste.
44 How can you believe, since you look to each other for glory and are not concerned with the glory thatcomes from the one God?	44 Come potete credere voi, che vi glorificate gli uni gli altri e non cercate la gloria che viene dal solo Dio?
45 Do not imagine that I am going to accuse you before the Father: you have placed your hopes onMoses, and Moses wil be the one who accuses you.	45 Non pensate che io vi accuserò davanti al Padre: il vostro accusatore è Mosè, nel quale voi avete riposto la vostra speranza.
46 If you real y believed him you would believe me too, since it was about me that he was writing;	46 Se infatti credeste a Mosè, anche a me credereste, perché di me egli ha scritto.
47 but if you wil not believe what he wrote, how can you believe what I say?	47 Se non credete alle Scritture di lui, come crederete alle mie parole?".
