John 5

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 After this there was a Jewish festival, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	1 DOPO queste cose v’era una festa de’ Giudei; e Gesù salì in Gerusalemme.
2 Now in Jerusalem next to the Sheep Pool there is a pool called Bethesda in Hebrew, which has fiveporticos;	2 Or in Gerusalemme, presso della porta delle pecore, v’è una pescina, detta in Ebreo Betesda, che ha cinque portici.
3 and under these were crowds of sick people, blind, lame, paralysed.	3 In essi giaceva gran moltitudine d’infermi, di ciechi, di zoppi, di secchi, aspettando il movimento dell’acqua.
4	4 Perciocchè di tempo in tempo un angelo scendeva nella pescina, ed intorbidava l’acqua; e il primo che vi entrava, dopo l’intorbidamento dell’acqua, era sanato, di qualunque malattia egli fosse tenuto.
5 One man there had an il ness which had lasted thirty-eight years,	5 Or quivi era un certo uomo, ch’era stato infermo trentotto anni.
6 and when Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had been in that condition for a long time, he said,'Do you want to be wel again?'	6 Gesù, veduto costui giacere, e sapendo che già lungo tempo era stato infermo, gli disse: Vuoi tu esser sanato?
7 'Sir,' replied the sick man, 'I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is disturbed; and while Iam stil on the way, someone else gets down there before me.'	7 L’infermo gli rispose: Signore, io non ho alcuno che mi metta nella pescina, quando l’acqua è intorbidata; e quando io vi vengo, un altro vi scende prima di me.
8 Jesus said, 'Get up, pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around.'	8 Gesù gli disse: Levati, togli il tuo letticello, e cammina.
9 The man was cured at once, and he picked up his mat and started to walk around. Now that dayhappened to be the Sabbath,	9 E in quello stante quell’uomo fu sanato, e tolse il suo letticello, e camminava. Or in quel giorno era sabato.
10 so the Jews said to the man who had been cured, 'It is the Sabbath; you are not al owed to carry yoursleeping-mat.'	10 Laonde i Giudei dissero a colui ch’era stato sanato: Egli è sabato; non ti è lecito di togliere il tuo letticello.
11 He replied, 'But the man who cured me told me, "Pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around." '	11 Egli rispose loro: Colui che mi ha sanato mi ha detto: Togli il tuo letticello, e cammina.
12 They asked, 'Who is the man who said to you, "Pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around"? '	12 Ed essi gli domandarono: Chi è quell’uomo che ti ha detto: Togli il tuo letticello, e cammina?
13 The man had no idea who it was, since Jesus had disappeared, as the place was crowded.	13 Or colui ch’era stato sanato non sapeva chi egli fosse; perciocchè Gesù s’era sottratto dalla moltitudine ch’era in quel luogo.
14 After a while Jesus met him in the Temple and said, 'Now you are wel again, do not sin any more, orsomething worse may happen to you.'	14 Di poi Gesù lo trovò nel tempio, e gli disse: Ecco, tu sei stato sanato; non peccar più, che peggio non ti avvenga.
15 The man went back and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had cured him.	15 Quell’uomo se ne andò, e rapportò ai Giudei che Gesù era quel che l’avea sanato.
16 It was because he did things like this on the Sabbath that the Jews began to harass Jesus.	16 E PERCIÒ i Giudei perseguivano Gesù, e cercavano d’ucciderlo, perciocchè avea fatte quelle cose in sabato
17 His answer to them was, 'My Father stil goes on working, and I am at work, too.'	17 Ma Gesù rispose loro: Il Padre mio opera infino ad ora, ed io ancora opero.
18 But that only made the Jews even more intent on kil ing him, because not only was he breaking theSabbath, but he spoke of God as his own Father and so made himself God's equal.	18 Perciò adunque i Giudei cercavano vie più d’ucciderlo, perciocchè non solo violava il sabato, ma ancora diceva Iddio esser suo Padre, facendosi uguale a Dio.
19 To this Jesus replied: In al truth I tel you, by himself the Son can do nothing; he can do only what hesees the Father doing: and whatever the Father does the Son does too.	19 Laonde Gesù rispose, e disse loro: In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che il Figliuolo non può far nulla da sè stesso, ma fa ciò che vede fare al Padre, perciocchè le cose ch’esso fa, il Figliuolo le fa anch’egli simigliantemente.
20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he himself does, and he wil show him evengreater things than these, works that will astonish you.	20 Poichè il Padre ama il Figliuolo, e gli mostra tutte le cose ch’egli fa; ed anche gli mostrerà opere maggiori di queste, acciocchè voi vi maravigliate.
21 Thus, as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son gives life to anyone he chooses;	21 Perciocchè, siccome il Padre suscita i morti, e li vivifica, così ancora il Figliuolo vivifica coloro ch’egli vuole.
22 for the Father judges no one; he has entrusted all judgement to the Son,	22 Poichè il Padre non giudica alcuno, ma ha dato tutto il giudicio al Figliuolo;
23 so that al may honour the Son as they honour the Father. Whoever refuses honour to the Son refuseshonour to the Father who sent him.	23 acciocchè tutti onorino il Figliuolo, come onorano il Padre; chi non onora il Figliuolo, non onora il Padre che l’ha mandato.
24 In al truth I tel you, whoever listens to my words, and believes in the one who sent me, has eternallife; without being brought to judgement such a person has passed from death to life.	24 In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che chi ode la mia parola, e crede a colui che mi ha mandato, ha vita eterna, e non viene in giudicio; anzi è passato dalla morte alla vita.
25 In al truth I tel you, the hour is coming -- indeed it is already here -- when the dead wil hear the voiceof the Son of God, and al who hear it wil live.	25 In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che l’ora viene, e già al presente è, che i morti udiranno la voce del Figliuol di Dio, e coloro che l’avranno udita viveranno.
26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself;	26 Perciocchè, siccome il Padre ha vita in sè stesso,
27 and, because he is the Son of man, has granted him power to give judgement.	27 così ha dato ancora al Figliuolo d’aver vita in sè stesso; e gli ha data podestà eziandio di far giudicio, in quanto egli è Figliuol d’uomo.
28 Do not be surprised at this, for the hour is coming when the dead wil leave their graves at the sound ofhis voice:	28 Non vi maravigliate di questo; perciocchè l’ora viene, che tutti coloro che son ne’ monumenti udiranno la sua voce;
29 those who did good will come forth to life; and those who did evil will come forth to judgement.	29 ed usciranno, coloro che avranno fatto bene, in risurrezion di vita; e coloro che avranno fatto male, in risurrezion di condannazione.
30 By myself I can do nothing; I can judge only as I am told to judge, and my judging is just, because Iseek to do not my own wil but the wil of him who sent me.	30 Io non posso da me stesso far cosa alcuna; io giudico secondo che io odo; e il mio giudicio è giusto, perciocchè io non cerco la mia volontà, me la volontà del Padre che mi ha mandato
31 Were I to testify on my own behalf, my testimony would not be true;	31 Se io testimonio di me stesso, la mia testimonianza non è verace.
32 but there is another witness who speaks on my behalf, and I know that his testimony is true.	32 V’è un altro che rende testimonianza di me, ed io so che la testimonianza ch’egli rende di me è verace.
33 You sent messengers to John, and he gave his testimony to the truth-	33 Voi mandaste a Giovanni, ed egli rendette testimonianza alla verità.
34 not that I depend on human testimony; no, it is for your salvation that I mention it.	34 Or io non prendo testimonianza da uomo alcuno, ma dico queste cose, acciocchè siate salvati.
35 John was a lamp lit and shining and for a time you were content to enjoy the light that he gave.	35 Esso era una lampana ardente, e lucente; e voi volentieri gioiste, per un breve tempo, alla sua luce.
36 But my testimony is greater than John's: the deeds my Father has given me to perform, these samedeeds of mine testify that the Father has sent me.	36 Ma io ho la testimonianza maggiore di quella di Giovanni, poichè le opere che il Padre mi ha date ad adempiere, quelle opere, dico, le quali io fo, testimoniano di me, che il Padre mio mi ha mandato.
37 Besides, the Father who sent me bears witness to me himself. You have never heard his voice, youhave never seen his shape,	37 Ed anche il Padre stesso che mi ha mandato ha testimoniato di me; voi non udiste giammai la sua voce, nè vedeste la sua sembianza;
38 and his word finds no home in you because you do not believe in the one whom he has sent.	38 e non avete la sua parola dimorante in voi, perchè non credete a colui ch’egli ha mandato.
39 You pore over the scriptures, believing that in them you can find eternal life; it is these scriptures thattestify to me,	39 Investigate le scritture, perciocchè voi pensate per esse aver vita eterna; ed esse son quelle che testimoniano di me.
40 and yet you refuse to come to me to receive life!	40 Ma voi non volete venire a me, acciocchè abbiate vita.
41 Human glory means nothing to me.	41 Io non prendo gloria dagli uomini.
42 Besides, I know you too well: you have no love of God in you.	42 Ma io vi conosco, che non avete l’amor di Dio in voi.
43 I have come in the name of my Father and you refuse to accept me; if someone else should come inhis own name you would accept him.	43 Io son venuto nel nome del Padre mio, e voi non mi ricevete; se un altro viene nel suo proprio nome, quello riceverete.
44 How can you believe, since you look to each other for glory and are not concerned with the glory thatcomes from the one God?	44 Come potete voi credere, poichè prendete gloria gli uni dagli altri, e non cercate la gloria che viene da un solo Dio?
45 Do not imagine that I am going to accuse you before the Father: you have placed your hopes onMoses, and Moses wil be the one who accuses you.	45 Non pensate che io vi accusi appo il Padre; v’è chi vi accusa, cioè Mosè, nel qual voi avete riposta la vostra speranza.
46 If you real y believed him you would believe me too, since it was about me that he was writing;	46 Perciocchè, se voi credeste a Mosè, credereste ancora a me; poichè egli ha scritto di me.
47 but if you wil not believe what he wrote, how can you believe what I say?	47 Ma se non credete agli scritti d’esso, come crederete alle mie parole?
