John 5

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 After this there was a Jewish festival, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	1 Après cela, il y eut une fête des Juifs et Jésus monta à Jérusalem.
2 Now in Jerusalem next to the Sheep Pool there is a pool called Bethesda in Hebrew, which has fiveporticos;	2 Or il existe à Jérusalem, près de la Probatique, une piscine qui s'appelle en hébreu Bethesda et qui acinq portiques.
3 and under these were crowds of sick people, blind, lame, paralysed.	3 Sous ces portiques gisaient une multitude d'infirmes, aveugles, boiteux, impotents, qui attendaient lebouillonnement de l'eau.
4	4 Car l'ange du Seigneur descendait par moments dans la piscine et agitait l'eau: le premier alors à yentrer, après que l'eau avait été agitée, se trouvait guéri, quel que fût son mal.
5 One man there had an il ness which had lasted thirty-eight years,	5 Il y avait là un homme qui était infirme depuis 38 ans.
6 and when Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had been in that condition for a long time, he said,'Do you want to be wel again?'	6 Jésus, le voyant étendu et apprenant qu'il était dans cet état depuis longtemps déjà, lui dit: "Veux-tuguérir?"
7 'Sir,' replied the sick man, 'I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is disturbed; and while Iam stil on the way, someone else gets down there before me.'	7 L'infirme lui répondit: "Seigneur, je n'ai personne pour me jeter dans la piscine, quand l'eau vient à êtreagitée; et, le temps que j'y aille, un autre descend avant moi."
8 Jesus said, 'Get up, pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around.'	8 Jésus lui dit: "Lève-toi, prends ton grabat et marche."
9 The man was cured at once, and he picked up his mat and started to walk around. Now that dayhappened to be the Sabbath,	9 Et aussitôt l'homme fut guéri; il prit son grabat et il marchait. Or c'était le sabbat, ce jour-là.
10 so the Jews said to the man who had been cured, 'It is the Sabbath; you are not al owed to carry yoursleeping-mat.'	10 Les Juifs dirent donc à celui qui venait d'être guéri: "C'est le sabbat. Il ne t'est pas permis de porter tongrabat."
11 He replied, 'But the man who cured me told me, "Pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around." '	11 Il leur répondit: "Celui qui m'a guéri m'a dit: Prends ton grabat et marche."
12 They asked, 'Who is the man who said to you, "Pick up your sleeping-mat and walk around"? '	12 Ils lui demandèrent: "Quel est l'homme qui t'a dit: Prends ton grabat et marche?"
13 The man had no idea who it was, since Jesus had disappeared, as the place was crowded.	13 Mais celui qui avait été guéri ne savait pas qui c'était; Jésus en effet avait disparu, car il y avait fouleen ce lieu.
14 After a while Jesus met him in the Temple and said, 'Now you are wel again, do not sin any more, orsomething worse may happen to you.'	14 Après cela, Jésus le rencontre dans le Temple et lui dit: "Te voilà guéri; ne pèche plus, de peur qu'il net'arrive pire encore."
15 The man went back and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had cured him.	15 L'homme s'en fut révéler aux Juifs que c'était Jésus qui l'avait guéri.
16 It was because he did things like this on the Sabbath that the Jews began to harass Jesus.	16 C'est pourquoi les Juifs persécutaient Jésus: parce qu'il faisait ces choses-là le jour du sabbat.
17 His answer to them was, 'My Father stil goes on working, and I am at work, too.'	17 Mais il leur répondit: "Mon Père est à l'oeuvre jusqu'à présent et j'oeuvre moi aussi."
18 But that only made the Jews even more intent on kil ing him, because not only was he breaking theSabbath, but he spoke of God as his own Father and so made himself God's equal.	18 Aussi les Juifs n'en cherchaient que davantage à le tuer, puisque, non content de violer le sabbat, ilappelait encore Dieu son propre Père, se faisant égal à Dieu.
19 To this Jesus replied: In al truth I tel you, by himself the Son can do nothing; he can do only what hesees the Father doing: and whatever the Father does the Son does too.	19 Jésus reprit donc la parole et leur dit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le Fils ne peut rien faire delui-même, qu'il ne le voie faire au Père; ce que fait celui-ci, le Fils le fait pareillement.
20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he himself does, and he wil show him evengreater things than these, works that will astonish you.	20 Car le Père aime le Fils, et lui montre tout ce qu'il fait; et il lui montrera des oeuvres plus grandes quecelles-ci, à vous en stupéfier.
21 Thus, as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son gives life to anyone he chooses;	21 Comme le Père en effet ressuscite les morts et leur redonne vie, ainsi le Fils donne vie à qui il veut.
22 for the Father judges no one; he has entrusted all judgement to the Son,	22 Car le Père ne juge personne; il a donné au Fils le jugement tout entier,
23 so that al may honour the Son as they honour the Father. Whoever refuses honour to the Son refuseshonour to the Father who sent him.	23 afin que tous honorent le Fils comme ils honorent le Père. Qui n'honore pas le Fils n'honore pas lePère qui l'a envoyé.
24 In al truth I tel you, whoever listens to my words, and believes in the one who sent me, has eternallife; without being brought to judgement such a person has passed from death to life.	24 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui écoute ma parole et croit à celui qui m'a envoyé a la vieéternelle et ne vient pas en jugement, mais il est passé de la mort à la vie.
25 In al truth I tel you, the hour is coming -- indeed it is already here -- when the dead wil hear the voiceof the Son of God, and al who hear it wil live.	25 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, l'heure vient - et c'est maintenant - où les morts entendront la voixdu Fils de Dieu, et ceux qui l'auront entendue vivront.
26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself;	26 Comme le Père en effet a la vie en lui-même, de même a-t-il donné au Fils d'avoir aussi la vie en lui-même
27 and, because he is the Son of man, has granted him power to give judgement.	27 et il lui a donné pouvoir d'exercer le jugement parce qu'il est Fils d'homme.
28 Do not be surprised at this, for the hour is coming when the dead wil leave their graves at the sound ofhis voice:	28 N'en soyez pas étonnés, car elle vient, l'heure où tous ceux qui sont dans les tombeaux entendront savoix
29 those who did good will come forth to life; and those who did evil will come forth to judgement.	29 et sortiront: ceux qui auront fait le bien, pour une résurrection de vie, ceux qui auront fait le mal, pourune résurrection de jugement.
30 By myself I can do nothing; I can judge only as I am told to judge, and my judging is just, because Iseek to do not my own wil but the wil of him who sent me.	30 Je ne puis rien faire de moi-même. Je juge selon ce que j'entends: et mon jugement est juste, parce queje ne cherche pas ma volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé.
31 Were I to testify on my own behalf, my testimony would not be true;	31 Si je me rends témoignage à moi-même, mon témoignage n'est pas valable.
32 but there is another witness who speaks on my behalf, and I know that his testimony is true.	32 Un autre témoigne de moi, et je sais qu'il est valable le témoignage qu'il me rend.
33 You sent messengers to John, and he gave his testimony to the truth-	33 Vous avez envoyé trouver Jean et il a rendu témoignage à la vérité.
34 not that I depend on human testimony; no, it is for your salvation that I mention it.	34 Non que je relève du témoignage d'un homme; si j'en parle, c'est pour votre salut.
35 John was a lamp lit and shining and for a time you were content to enjoy the light that he gave.	35 Celui-là était la lampe qui brûle et qui luit, et vous avez voulu vous réjouir une heure à sa lumière.
36 But my testimony is greater than John's: the deeds my Father has given me to perform, these samedeeds of mine testify that the Father has sent me.	36 Mais j'ai plus grand que le témoignage de Jean: les oeuvres que le Père m'a donné à mener à bonnefin, ces oeuvres mêmes que je fais me rendent témoignage que le Père m'envoie.
37 Besides, the Father who sent me bears witness to me himself. You have never heard his voice, youhave never seen his shape,	37 Et le Père qui m'a envoyé, lui, me rend témoignage. Vous n'avez jamais entendu sa voix, vous n'avezjamais vu sa face,
38 and his word finds no home in you because you do not believe in the one whom he has sent.	38 et sa parole, vous ne l'avez pas à demeure en vous, puisque vous ne croyez pas celui qu'il a envoyé.
39 You pore over the scriptures, believing that in them you can find eternal life; it is these scriptures thattestify to me,	39 Vous scrutez les Ecritures, parce que vous pensez avoir en elles la vie éternelle, et ce sont elles qui merendent témoignage,
40 and yet you refuse to come to me to receive life!	40 et vous ne voulez pas venir à moi pour avoir la vie!
41 Human glory means nothing to me.	41 De la gloire, je n'en reçois pas qui vienne des hommes;
42 Besides, I know you too well: you have no love of God in you.	42 mais je vous connais: vous n'avez pas en vous l'amour de Dieu;
43 I have come in the name of my Father and you refuse to accept me; if someone else should come inhis own name you would accept him.	43 je viens au nom de mon Père et vous ne m'accueillez pas; qu'un autre vienne en son propre nom, celui-là, vous l'accueillerez.
44 How can you believe, since you look to each other for glory and are not concerned with the glory thatcomes from the one God?	44 Comment pouvez-vous croire, vous qui recevez votre gloire les uns des autres, et ne cherchez pas lagloire qui vient du Dieu unique.
45 Do not imagine that I am going to accuse you before the Father: you have placed your hopes onMoses, and Moses wil be the one who accuses you.	45 Ne pensez pas que je vous accuserai auprès du Père. Votre accusateur, c'est Moïse, en qui vous avezmis votre espoir.
46 If you real y believed him you would believe me too, since it was about me that he was writing;	46 Car si vous croyiez Moïse, vous me croiriez aussi, car c'est de moi qu'il a écrit.
47 but if you wil not believe what he wrote, how can you believe what I say?	47 Mais si vous ne croyez pas à ses écrits, comment croirez-vous à mes paroles?"
