1 Now it happened that one day while he was teaching the people in the Temple and proclaiming thegood news, the chief priests and the scribes came up, together with the elders,	1 Ed avvenne che in uno di quei giorni, mentre egli nel tempio insegnava, al popolo e lo evangelizzava, s'adunarono i principi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi cogli anziani
2 and spoke to him. 'Tel us,' they said, 'what authority have you for acting like this? Or who gives youthis authority?'	2 e presero a dirgli: dicci con quale autorità fai queste cose, e chi ti ha dato questa autorità.
3 In reply he said to them, 'And I will ask you a question, just one. Tel me:	3 Ma Gesù rispose loro: Vi faro anch'io una domanda:
4 John's baptism: what was its origin, heavenly or human?'	4 Ditemi, il battesimo di Giovanni, era dal cielo o dagli uomini?
5 And they debated this way among themselves, 'If we say heavenly, he will retort, "Why did you refuseto believe him?";	5 Ed essi dentro di se così ragionavano. Se rispondiamo, dal cielo, dirà: E allora perchè non gli avete creduto?
6 and if we say human, the whole people wil stone us, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.'	6 Se poi diciamo: dagli uomini, tutto il popolo ci lapiderà, essendo persuaso che Giovanni era un profeta.
7 So their reply was that they did not know where it came from.	7 E risposero che non sapevano donde venisse.
8 And Jesus said to them, 'Nor wil I tell you my authority for acting like this.'	8 E Gesù disse loro: Neppure io vi dico con quale autorità fo' queste cose.
9 And he went on to tel the people this parable, 'A man planted a vineyard and leased it to tenants, andwent abroad for a long while.	9 Indi prese a dire al popolo questa parabola: Un uomo piantò una vigna, e, allogatala a certi coloni, partì per lungo viaggio.
10 When the right time came, he sent a servant to the tenants to get his share of the produce of thevineyard. But the tenants thrashed him, and sent him away empty-handed.	10 E nella stagione mandò un servo a quei coloni perchè gli dessero dei frutti di quella vigna; ma i coloni lo picchiarono e lo rimandarono a mani vuote.
11 But he went on to send a second servant; they thrashed him too and treated him shamefully and senthim away empty-handed.	11 Mandò loro ancora un altro servo. Ma quelli picchiato e vituperato anche questo, lo rimandarono a mani vuote.
12 He still went on to send a third; they wounded this one too, and threw him out.	12 Ed egli di nuovo ne mandò un terzo; ma essi cacciarono anche questo, dopo averlo ferito.
13 Then the owner of the vineyard thought, "What am I to do? I wil send them my own beloved son.Perhaps they wil respect him."	13 Disse allora il padrone della vigna: Che dovrò fare? Manderò il mio figlio diletto; forse quando lo vedrannogli avran riguardo.
14 But when the tenants saw him they put their heads together saying, "This is the heir, let us kil him sothat the inheritance wil be ours."	14 Ma i coloni, appena lo videro, così ragionarono tra loro: Questo è l'erede: uccidiamolo e l'eredità sarà nostra.
15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 'Now what wil the owner of the vineyard do tothem?	15 E, cacciatolo fuor della vigna, lo uccisero. Che farà dunque di costoro il padrone della vigna?
16 He wil come and make an end of these tenants and give the vineyard to others.' Hearing this theysaid, 'God forbid!'	16 Verrà e sterminerà quei coloni e darà ad altri la vigna. Ed essi, udito ciò, dissero: Non sia mai.
17 But he looked hard at them and said, 'Then what does this text in the scriptures mean: The stonewhich the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?	17 Ma egli fissatili, disse: Che vuol dire: adunque ciò che sta scritto: La pietra riprovata dagli edificatori è diventata pietra angolare?
18 Anyone who fal s on that stone will be dashed to pieces; anyone it fal s on wil be crushed.'	18 Chiunque cadrà su tal pietra sarà sfracellato ed essa stritolerà quello sul quale sarà caduta.
19 And the scribes and the chief priests would have liked to lay hands on him that very moment,because they realised that this parable was aimed at them, but they were afraid of the people.	19 E i principi dei sacerdoti o gli Scribi cercarono allora di mettergli le mani addosso, essendosi bene accorti come avesse detto contro di loro tale parabola; ebbero paura del popolo.
20 So they awaited their opportunity and sent agents to pose as upright men, and to catch him out insomething he might say and so enable them to hand him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.	20 E spiandolo, gli mandaron degli insidiatori che si fingevano onesti, per prenderlo in fallo nei suoi discorsi e così consegnarlo all'autorità, in balia del governatore.
21 They put to him this question, 'Master, we know that you say and teach what is right; you favour noone, but teach the way of God in al honesty.	21 E questi lo interrogarono, dicendo: Maestro, sappiamo che tu parli ed insegni rettamente, che non guardi in faccia a nessuno, ma insegni la via di Dio secondo la verità.
22 Is it permissible for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?'	22 Ci è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?
23 But he was aware of their cunning and said,	23 Ma egli, conoscendo la loro astuzia, disse: Perchè mi tentate?
24 'Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and title are on it?' They said, 'Caesar's.'	24 Mostratemi un danaro, Di chi è l'immagine e l'iscrizione? Risposero: Di Cesare.
25 He said to them, 'Well then, pay Caesar what belongs to Caesar -- and God what belongs to God.'	25 E Gesù a loro: Rendete dunque a Cesare quel che è di Cesare e a Dio quel che è di Dio.
26 They were unable to catch him out in anything he had to say in public; they were amazed at hisanswer and were silenced.	26 E non poterono intaccar le sue parole davanti al popolo; quindi, maraviglia: della sua risposta, si tacquero.
27 Some Sadducees -- those who argue that there is no resurrection -- approached him and they putthis question to him,	27 Andarono però a lui alcuni dei Sadducei, i quali negano la risurrezione, e l'interrogarono dicendo
28 'Master, Moses prescribed for us, if a man's married brother dies childless, the man must marry thewidow to raise up children for his brother.	28 dicendo: Maestro, Mosè ci ha lasciato scritto: Uno che muore senza figli, suo fratello ne sposi la vedova e susciti prole al fratello.
29 Wel then, there were seven brothers; the first, having married a wife, died childless.	29 Eran dunque sette fratelli, il primo prese moglie e morì senz afigli.
30 The second	30 il secondo sposò la ve­dova e morì pure senza prole.
31 and then the third married the widow. And the same with al seven, they died leaving no children.	31 E la sposò il terzo e così tutti e sette, e moriron senza lasciar figlioli.
32 Finally the woman herself died.	32 Finalmente morì anche la donna.
33 Now, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be, since she had been married to all seven?'	33 Or nella risurrezione di chi di loro sarà moglie? chè l'ebbero in moglie tutti e sette.
34 Jesus replied, 'The children of this world take wives and husbands,	34 E Gesù rispose loro: I figli di questo secolo sposano e si fanno sposare;
35 but those who are judged worthy of a place in the other world and in the resurrection from the deaddo not marry	35 ma coloro che saran giudicati degni dell'altro secolo e di risorgere dai morti, nè sposeranno, nè si mariteranno,
36 because they can no longer die, for they are the same as the angels, and being children of theresurrection they are children of God.	36 non potendo più morire, essendo simili agli Angeli, e figli di Dio, come figli della risurrezione.
37 And Moses himself implies that the dead rise again, in the passage about the bush where he cal s theLord the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.	37 Che poi i morti risuscitino, l'ha dichiarato anche Mosè nel passo del roveto, quando chiama il Signore il Dio d'Àbramo, il Dio d'Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe.
38 Now he is God, not of the dead, but of the living; for to him everyone is alive.'	38 Or non è Dio dei morti, ma dei vivi, perchè tutti son vivi per lui.
39 Some scribes then spoke up. They said, 'Wel put, Master.'	39 Ed alcuni degli Scribi soggiunsero: Maestro, hai detto bene.
40 They did not dare to ask him any more questions.	40 E nessuno ardiva più interrogarlo.
41 He then said to them, 'How can people maintain that the Christ is son of David?	41 Ma egli disse loro: Come fanno a dire che il Cristo è Figlio di David;
42 Why, David himself says in the Book of Psalms: The Lord declared to my Lord, take your seat at myright hand,	42 mentre David stesso, nel libro dei Salmi, dice: Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: siedi alla mia destra,
43 til I have made your enemies your footstool.	43 finch'io non abbia posto i tuoi nemici a sgabello dei tuoi piedi?
44 David here cal s him Lord; how then can he be his son?'	44 David adunque lo chiama Signore, e allora come può essere suo Figlio?
45 While al the people were listening he said to the disciples,	45 Ascoltate da tutto il popolo, disse ai suoi discepoli:
46 'Beware of the scribes who like to walk about in long robes and love to be greeted respectfully in themarket squares, to take the front seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets,	46 Guardatevi dagli Scribi che passeggian volentieri in lunghe vesti, e desiderano le riverenze nelle piazze, i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe ed i primi posti nei banchetti,
47 who devour the property of widows, and for show offer long prayers. The more severe will be thesentence they receive.'	47 che divorano le case delle vedove, ostentando lunghe orazioni. Costoro avranno a subire più severa condanna.
