NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'Then the kingdom of Heaven wil be like this: Ten wedding attendants took their lamps and went tomeet the bridegroom.	1 "Allora il regno dei cieli sarà simile a dieci vergini che presero le loro lampade e uscirono incontro allo sposo.
2 Five of them were foolish and five were sensible:	2 Ora, cinque di esse erano stolte e cinque prudenti.
3 the foolish ones, though they took their lamps, took no oil with them,	3 Infatti le stolte, quando presero le lampade, non pensarono di prendere con sé l'olio;
4 whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as wel as their lamps.	4 mentre le prudenti, insieme alle lampade, presero anche dell'olio nei vasi.
5 The bridegroom was late, and they al grew drowsy and fell asleep.	5 Poiché lo sposo tardava a venire, tutte, vinte dal sonno, si addormentarono.
6 But at midnight there was a cry, "Look! The bridegroom! Go out and meet him."	6 Ma a mezzanotte si levò un grido: "Ecco lo sposo, andategli incontro!".
7 Then al those wedding attendants woke up and trimmed their lamps,	7 Allora tutte quelle vergini si destarono e misero in ordine le loro lampade.
8 and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, "Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out."	8 E le stolte dissero alle prudenti: "Dateci del vostro olio, poiché le nostre lampade si spengono".
9 But they replied, "There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sel itand buy some for yourselves."	9 Le prudenti risposero: "No, che non abbia a mancare per noi e per voi; andate piuttosto a comprarvelo dai venditori".
10 They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him tothe wedding hall and the door was closed.	10 Ora mentre quelle andavano a comprare l'olio, giunse lo sposo e le vergini che erano pronte entrarono con lui nella sala del banchetto, e la porta si chiuse.
11 The other attendants arrived later. "Lord, Lord," they said, "open the door for us."	11 Più tardi arrivarono anche le altre vergini, le quali dicevano: "Signore, Signore, aprici!".
12 But he replied, "In truth I tel you, I do not know you."	12 Ma egli rispose: "In verità vi dico: non vi conosco!".
13 So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.	13 Vigilate, dunque, poiché non sapete né il giorno né l'ora".
14 'It is like a man about to go abroad who summoned his servants and entrusted his property to them.	14 "Allo stesso modo, infatti, un uomo in procinto di partire chiamò i propri servi e affidò loro i suoi beni:
15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to a third one, each in proportion to his ability. Then heset out on his journey.	15 a uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due e a un altro uno: a ciascuno secondo le proprie capacità; poi partì. Senza perdere tempo,
16 The man who had received the five talents promptly went and traded with them and made five more.	16 quello che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti andò a trafficarli e ne guadagnò altri cinque.
17 The man who had received two made two more in the same way.	17 Allo stesso modo quello che aveva ricevuto due talenti ne guadagnò anch'egli altri due.
18 But the man who had received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master'smoney.	18 Ma quello che ne aveva ricevuto uno solo andò a scavare nella terra una fossa e vi nascose il denaro del suo padrone.
19 Now a long time afterwards, the master of those servants came back and went through his accountswith them.	19 Dopo molto tempo viene il padrone di quei servi e li chiama al rendiconto.
20 The man who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more. "Sir," he said, "youentrusted me with five talents; here are five more that I have made."	20 Si presentò quello che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti e ne portò altri cinque dicendo: "Signore, mi desti cinque talenti. Ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri cinque".
21 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."	21 Gli disse il padrone: "Bene, servo buono e fedele; sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò potere su molto: entra nel gaudio del tuo signore".
22 Next the man with the two talents came forward. "Sir," he said, "you entrusted me with two talents; here are two more that I have made."	22 Si presentò poi quello dei due talenti e disse: "Signore, mi desti due talenti. Ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri due".
23 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."	23 Gli disse il padrone: "Bene, servo buono e fedele; sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò potere su molto: entra nel gaudio del tuo signore".
24 Last came forward the man who had the single talent. "Sir," said he, "I had heard you were a hardman, reaping where you had not sown and gathering where you had not scattered;	24 Infine si presentò anche quello che aveva ricevuto un solo talento e disse: "Signore, sapevo che tu sei un uomo severo, che mieti dove non hai seminato e raccogli dove non hai sparso;
25 so I was afraid, and I went off and hid your talent in the ground. Here it is; it was yours, you have itback."	25 per questo ho avuto paura e sono andato a nascondere il tuo talento sotto terra. Ecco, prendi ciò che è tuo".
26 But his master answered him, "You wicked and lazy servant! So you knew that I reap where I havenot sown and gather where I have not scattered?	26 Il padrone gli rispose: "Servo malvagio e infingardo, sapevi che io mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;
27 Well then, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have gotmy money back with interest.	27 per questo avresti dovuto affidare il mio denaro ai banchieri, in modo che, al mio ritorno, avrei potuto ritirare il mio con l'interesse.
28 So now, take the talent from him and give it to the man who has the ten talents.	28 Perciò toglietegli il talento e datelo a quello che ne ha dieci.
29 For to everyone who has wil be given more, and he wil have more than enough; but anyone whohas not, wil be deprived even of what he has.	29 Infatti a chi ha sarà dato e sarà nell'abbondanza. Ma a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha.
30 As for this good-for-nothing servant, throw him into the darkness outside, where there will be weepingand grinding of teeth."	30 E il servo infingardo, gettatelo nelle tenebre esteriori; là sarà pianto e stridore di denti".
31 'When the Son of man comes in his glory, escorted by al the angels, then he will take his seat on histhrone of glory.	31 "Quando il Figlio dell'uomo verrà nella sua maestà, accompagnato da tutti i suoi angeli, allora si siederà sul suo trono di gloria
32 Al nations wil be assembled before him and he wil separate people one from another as theshepherd separates sheep from goats.	32 e davanti a lui saranno condotte tutte le genti; egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dai capri,
33 He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.	33 e metterà le pecore alla sua destra, i capri invece alla sua sinistra.
34 Then the King wil say to those on his right hand, "Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take asyour heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world.	34 Allora il Re dirà a quelli che stanno alla sua destra: "Venite, benedetti dal Padre mio, prendete possesso del regno preparato per voi sin dall'origine del mondo.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger andyou made me welcome,	35 Poiché: ebbi fame e mi deste da mangiare, ebbi sete e mi deste da bere, ero pellegrino e mi ospitaste,
36 lacking clothes and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me."	36 nudo e mi copriste, infermo e mi visitaste, ero in carcere e veniste a trovarmi".
37 Then the upright will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirstyand give you drink?	37 Allora i giusti diranno: "Signore, quando ti vedemmo affamato e ti demmo da mangiare, assetato e ti demmo da bere?
38 When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome, lacking clothes and clothe you?	38 Quando ti vedemmo pellegrino e ti ospitammo, nudo e ti coprimmo?
39 When did we find you sick or in prison and go to see you?"	39 Quando ti vedemmo infermo o in carcere e venimmo a trovarti?".
40 And the King wil answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of thesebrothers of mine, you did it to me."	40 E il Re risponderà loro: "In verità vi dico: tutto quello che avete fatto a uno dei più piccoli di questi miei fratelli, l'avete fatto a me".
41 Then he will say to those on his left hand, "Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to theeternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.	41 Quindi dirà a quelli che stanno alla sinistra: "Andate via da me, o maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, preparato per il diavolo e i suoi seguaci.
42 For I was hungry and you never gave me food, I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink,	42 Poiché: ebbi fame e non mi deste da mangiare, ebbi sete e non mi deste da bere,
43 I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, lacking clothes and you never clothed me, sickand in prison and you never visited me."	43 ero pellegrino e non mi ospitaste, nudo e non mi copriste, infermo e in carcere e non veniste a trovarmi".
44 Then it wil be their turn to ask, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or lackingclothes, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?"	44 Allora risponderanno anche loro dicendo: "Signore, quando ti vedemmo aver fame o sete, essere pellegrino o nudo, infermo o in carcere, e non ti abbiamo servito?".
45 Then he will answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least ofthese, you neglected to do it to me."	45 Allora risponderà loro dicendo: "In verità vi dico: ciò che non avete fatto a uno di questi più piccoli, non l'avete fatto a me".
46 And they wil go away to eternal punishment, and the upright to eternal life.'	46 E questi se ne andranno al castigo eterno, i giusti invece alla vita eterna".
