'Then the kingdom of Heaven wil be like this: Ten wedding attendants took their lamps and went tomeet the bridegroom.1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins, who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the groom and the bride.
Five of them were foolish and five were sensible:2 But five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.
the foolish ones, though they took their lamps, took no oil with them,3 For the five foolish, having brought their lamps, did not take oil with them.
whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as wel as their lamps.4 Yet truly, the prudent ones brought the oil, in their containers, with the lamps.
The bridegroom was late, and they al grew drowsy and fell asleep.5 Since the bridegroom was delayed, they all fell asleep, and they were sleeping.
But at midnight there was a cry, "Look! The bridegroom! Go out and meet him."6 But in the middle of the night, a cry went out: ‘Behold, the groom is arriving. Go out to meet him.’
Then al those wedding attendants woke up and trimmed their lamps,7 Then all those virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps.
and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, "Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out."8 But the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give to us from your oil, for our lamps are being extinguished.’
But they replied, "There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sel itand buy some for yourselves."9 The prudent responded by saying, ‘Lest perhaps there may not be enough for us and for you, it would be better for you to go to the vendors and buy some for yourselves.’
They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him tothe wedding hall and the door was closed.10 But while they were going to buy it, the groom arrived. And those who were prepared entered with him to the wedding, and the door was closed.
The other attendants arrived later. "Lord, Lord," they said, "open the door for us."11 Yet truly, at the very end, the remaining virgins also arrived, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’
But he replied, "In truth I tel you, I do not know you."12 But he responded by saying, ‘Amen I say to you, I do not know you.’
So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.13 And so you must be vigilant, because you do not know the day or the hour.
'It is like a man about to go abroad who summoned his servants and entrusted his property to them.14 For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, who called his servants and delivered to them his goods.
To one he gave five talents, to another two, to a third one, each in proportion to his ability. Then heset out on his journey.15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, yet to another he gave one, to each according to his own ability. And promptly, he set out.
The man who had received the five talents promptly went and traded with them and made five more.16 Then he who had received five talents went out, and he made use of these, and he gained another five.
The man who had received two made two more in the same way.17 And similarly, he who had received two gained another two.
But the man who had received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master'smoney.18 But he who had received one, going out, dug into the earth, and he hid the money of his lord.
Now a long time afterwards, the master of those servants came back and went through his accountswith them.19 Yet truly, after a long time, the lord of those servants returned and he settled accounts with them.
The man who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more. "Sir," he said, "youentrusted me with five talents; here are five more that I have made."20 And when he who had received five talents approached, he brought another five talents, saying: ‘Lord, you delivered five talents to me. Behold, I have increased it by another five.’
His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."21 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
Next the man with the two talents came forward. "Sir," he said, "you entrusted me with two talents; here are two more that I have made."22 Then he who had received two talents also approached, and he said: ‘Lord, you delivered two talents to me. Behold, I have gained another two.’
His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."23 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
Last came forward the man who had the single talent. "Sir," said he, "I had heard you were a hardman, reaping where you had not sown and gathering where you had not scattered;24 Then he who had received one talent, approaching, said: ‘Lord, I know that you are a hard man. You reap where you have not sown, and gather where you have not scattered.
so I was afraid, and I went off and hid your talent in the ground. Here it is; it was yours, you have itback."25 And so, being afraid, I went out and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’
But his master answered him, "You wicked and lazy servant! So you knew that I reap where I havenot sown and gather where I have not scattered?26 But his lord said to him in response: ‘You evil and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered.
Well then, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have gotmy money back with interest.27 Therefore, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and then, at my arrival, at least I would have received what is mine with interest.
So now, take the talent from him and give it to the man who has the ten talents.28 And so, take the talent away from him and give it the one who has ten talents.
For to everyone who has wil be given more, and he wil have more than enough; but anyone whohas not, wil be deprived even of what he has.29 For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have in abundance. But from him who has not, even what he seems to have, shall be taken away.
As for this good-for-nothing servant, throw him into the darkness outside, where there will be weepingand grinding of teeth."30 And cast that useless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
'When the Son of man comes in his glory, escorted by al the angels, then he will take his seat on histhrone of glory.31 But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty, and all the Angels with him, then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.
Al nations wil be assembled before him and he wil separate people one from another as theshepherd separates sheep from goats.32 And all the nations shall be gathered together before him. And he shall separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.33 And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right, but the goats on his left.
Then the King wil say to those on his right hand, "Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take asyour heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world.34 Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father. Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger andyou made me welcome,35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
lacking clothes and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me."36 naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.’
Then the upright will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirstyand give you drink?37 Then the just will answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when have we see you hungry, and fed you; thirsty, and given you drink?
When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome, lacking clothes and clothe you?38 And when have we seen you a stranger, and taken you in? Or naked, and covered you?
When did we find you sick or in prison and go to see you?"39 Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit to you?’
And the King wil answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of thesebrothers of mine, you did it to me."40 And in response, the King shall say to them, ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, you did it for me.’
Then he will say to those on his left hand, "Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to theeternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.41 Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left: ‘Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
For I was hungry and you never gave me food, I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink,42 For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;
I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, lacking clothes and you never clothed me, sickand in prison and you never visited me."43 I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not cover me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.’
Then it wil be their turn to ask, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or lackingclothes, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?"44 Then they will also answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’
Then he will answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least ofthese, you neglected to do it to me."45 Then he shall respond to them by saying: ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.’
And they wil go away to eternal punishment, and the upright to eternal life.'46 And these shall go into eternal punishment, but the just shall go into eternal life.”
