NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 'Then the kingdom of Heaven wil be like this: Ten wedding attendants took their lamps and went tomeet the bridegroom.	1 Allora il regno dei cieli sarà simile a dieci vergini che presero le loro lampade e uscirono incontro allo sposo.
2 Five of them were foolish and five were sensible:	2 Cinque di esse erano stolte e cinque sagge;
3 the foolish ones, though they took their lamps, took no oil with them,	3 le stolte presero le loro lampade, ma non presero con sé l’olio;
4 whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as wel as their lamps.	4 le sagge invece, insieme alle loro lampade, presero anche l’olio in piccoli vasi.
5 The bridegroom was late, and they al grew drowsy and fell asleep.	5 Poiché lo sposo tardava, si assopirono tutte e si addormentarono.
6 But at midnight there was a cry, "Look! The bridegroom! Go out and meet him."	6 A mezzanotte si alzò un grido: “Ecco lo sposo! Andategli incontro!”.
7 Then al those wedding attendants woke up and trimmed their lamps,	7 Allora tutte quelle vergini si destarono e prepararono le loro lampade.
8 and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, "Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out."	8 Le stolte dissero alle sagge: “Dateci un po’ del vostro olio, perché le nostre lampade si spengono”.
9 But they replied, "There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sel itand buy some for yourselves."	9 Le sagge risposero: “No, perché non venga a mancare a noi e a voi; andate piuttosto dai venditori e compratevene”.
10 They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him tothe wedding hall and the door was closed.	10 Ora, mentre quelle andavano a comprare l’olio, arrivò lo sposo e le vergini che erano pronte entrarono con lui alle nozze, e la porta fu chiusa.
11 The other attendants arrived later. "Lord, Lord," they said, "open the door for us."	11 Più tardi arrivarono anche le altre vergini e incominciarono a dire: “Signore, signore, aprici!”.
12 But he replied, "In truth I tel you, I do not know you."	12 Ma egli rispose: “In verità io vi dico: non vi conosco”.
13 So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.	13 Vegliate dunque, perché non sapete né il giorno né l’ora.
14 'It is like a man about to go abroad who summoned his servants and entrusted his property to them.	14 Avverrà infatti come a un uomo che, partendo per un viaggio, chiamò i suoi servi e consegnò loro i suoi beni.
15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to a third one, each in proportion to his ability. Then heset out on his journey.	15 A uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due, a un altro uno, secondo le capacità di ciascuno; poi partì. Subito
16 The man who had received the five talents promptly went and traded with them and made five more.	16 colui che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti andò a impiegarli, e ne guadagnò altri cinque.
17 The man who had received two made two more in the same way.	17 Così anche quello che ne aveva ricevuti due, ne guadagnò altri due.
18 But the man who had received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master'smoney.	18 Colui invece che aveva ricevuto un solo talento, andò a fare una buca nel terreno e vi nascose il denaro del suo padrone.
19 Now a long time afterwards, the master of those servants came back and went through his accountswith them.	19 Dopo molto tempo il padrone di quei servi tornò e volle regolare i conti con loro.
20 The man who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more. "Sir," he said, "youentrusted me with five talents; here are five more that I have made."	20 Si presentò colui che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti e ne portò altri cinque, dicendo: “Signore, mi hai consegnato cinque talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri cinque”.
21 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."	21 “Bene, servo buono e fedele – gli disse il suo padrone –, sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò potere su molto; prendi parte alla gioia del tuo padrone”.
22 Next the man with the two talents came forward. "Sir," he said, "you entrusted me with two talents; here are two more that I have made."	22 Si presentò poi colui che aveva ricevuto due talenti e disse: “Signore, mi hai consegnato due talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri due”.
23 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you aretrustworthy in small things; I wil trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness."	23 “Bene, servo buono e fedele – gli disse il suo padrone –, sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò potere su molto; prendi parte alla gioia del tuo padrone”.
24 Last came forward the man who had the single talent. "Sir," said he, "I had heard you were a hardman, reaping where you had not sown and gathering where you had not scattered;	24 Si presentò infine anche colui che aveva ricevuto un solo talento e disse: “Signore, so che sei un uomo duro, che mieti dove non hai seminato e raccogli dove non hai sparso.
25 so I was afraid, and I went off and hid your talent in the ground. Here it is; it was yours, you have itback."	25 Ho avuto paura e sono andato a nascondere il tuo talento sotto terra: ecco ciò che è tuo”.
26 But his master answered him, "You wicked and lazy servant! So you knew that I reap where I havenot sown and gather where I have not scattered?	26 Il padrone gli rispose: “Servo malvagio e pigro, tu sapevi che mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;
27 Well then, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have gotmy money back with interest.	27 avresti dovuto affidare il mio denaro ai banchieri e così, ritornando, avrei ritirato il mio con l’interesse.
28 So now, take the talent from him and give it to the man who has the ten talents.	28 Toglietegli dunque il talento, e datelo a chi ha i dieci talenti.
29 For to everyone who has wil be given more, and he wil have more than enough; but anyone whohas not, wil be deprived even of what he has.	29 Perché a chiunque ha, verrà dato e sarà nell’abbondanza; ma a chi non ha, verrà tolto anche quello che ha.
30 As for this good-for-nothing servant, throw him into the darkness outside, where there will be weepingand grinding of teeth."	30 E il servo inutile gettatelo fuori nelle tenebre; là sarà pianto e stridore di denti”.
31 'When the Son of man comes in his glory, escorted by al the angels, then he will take his seat on histhrone of glory.	31 Quando il Figlio dell’uomo verrà nella sua gloria, e tutti gli angeli con lui, siederà sul trono della sua gloria.
32 Al nations wil be assembled before him and he wil separate people one from another as theshepherd separates sheep from goats.	32 Davanti a lui verranno radunati tutti i popoli. Egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dalle capre,
33 He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.	33 e porrà le pecore alla sua destra e le capre alla sinistra.
34 Then the King wil say to those on his right hand, "Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take asyour heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world.	34 Allora il re dirà a quelli che saranno alla sua destra: “Venite, benedetti del Padre mio, ricevete in eredità il regno preparato per voi fin dalla creazione del mondo,
35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger andyou made me welcome,	35 perché ho avuto fame e mi avete dato da mangiare, ho avuto sete e mi avete dato da bere, ero straniero e mi avete accolto,
36 lacking clothes and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me."	36 nudo e mi avete vestito, malato e mi avete visitato, ero in carcere e siete venuti a trovarmi”.
37 Then the upright will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirstyand give you drink?	37 Allora i giusti gli risponderanno: “Signore, quando ti abbiamo visto affamato e ti abbiamo dato da mangiare, o assetato e ti abbiamo dato da bere?
38 When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome, lacking clothes and clothe you?	38 Quando mai ti abbiamo visto straniero e ti abbiamo accolto, o nudo e ti abbiamo vestito?
39 When did we find you sick or in prison and go to see you?"	39 Quando mai ti abbiamo visto malato o in carcere e siamo venuti a visitarti?”.
40 And the King wil answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of thesebrothers of mine, you did it to me."	40 E il re risponderà loro: “In verità io vi dico: tutto quello che avete fatto a uno solo di questi miei fratelli più piccoli, l’avete fatto a me”.
41 Then he will say to those on his left hand, "Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to theeternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.	41 Poi dirà anche a quelli che saranno alla sinistra: “Via, lontano da me, maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, preparato per il diavolo e per i suoi angeli,
42 For I was hungry and you never gave me food, I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink,	42 perché ho avuto fame e non mi avete dato da mangiare, ho avuto sete e non mi avete dato da bere,
43 I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, lacking clothes and you never clothed me, sickand in prison and you never visited me."	43 ero straniero e non mi avete accolto, nudo e non mi avete vestito, malato e in carcere e non mi avete visitato”.
44 Then it wil be their turn to ask, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or lackingclothes, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?"	44 Anch’essi allora risponderanno: “Signore, quando ti abbiamo visto affamato o assetato o straniero o nudo o malato o in carcere, e non ti abbiamo servito?”.
45 Then he will answer, "In truth I tel you, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least ofthese, you neglected to do it to me."	45 Allora egli risponderà loro: “In verità io vi dico: tutto quello che non avete fatto a uno solo di questi più piccoli, non l’avete fatto a me”.
46 And they wil go away to eternal punishment, and the upright to eternal life.'	46 E se ne andranno: questi al supplizio eterno, i giusti invece alla vita eterna».
