1 Yahweh, remember what has happened to us; consider, and see our degradation.	1 - «Ricorda, o Signore, quello ch'è accaduto a noi, guarda e vedi l'obbrobrio nostro.
2 Our heritage has passed to strangers, our homes to foreigners.	2 Il nostro retaggio è passato ai forestieri, le nostre abitazioni agli estranei.
3 We are orphans, we are fatherless; our mothers are like widows.	3 Noi siam restati come orfani senza padre, le nostre mani come vedove.
4 We have to buy our own water to drink, our own wood we can get only at a price.	4 Per denaro abbiam bevuto la nostr'acqua, le nostre legna a prezzo abbiam comprate.
5 The yoke is on our necks; we are persecuted; exhausted we are, al owed no rest.	5 Fummo trascinati pel collo, senza che agli sfiniti fosse data requie.
6 We made a pact with Egypt, with Assyria, to have plenty of food.	6 All'Egitto abbiam porto le mani ed agli Assiri, per aver pane da campare.
7 Our ancestors sinned; they are no more, and we bear the weight of their guilt.	7 I padri nostri hanno peccato e più non sonoe noi abbiam portato le loro iniquità.
8 Slaves rule us; there is no one to rescue us from their clutches.	8 I mercenari hanno spadroneggiato su di noi, senza che alcuno ci riscattasse dalle loro mani.
9 At peril of our lives we earn our bread, by risking the sword of the desert.	9 A rischio della vita ci siam procacciato il pane in faccia alla spada nel deserto.
10 Our skin is as hot as an oven, from the scorch of famine.	10 La nostra pelle è risecchita come un forno, davanti all'imperversare della fame.
11 The women in Zion have been raped, the young girls in the towns of Judah.	11 Hanno disonorato le donne in Sion, e le vergini nelle città di Giuda.
12 Princes have been hanged by their hands; the face of the old has won no respect.	12 I principi furono appesi per le mani, e non ebbero riverenza alla faccia dei vecchi.
13 Youths have been put to the mil , boys stagger under loads of wood.	13 Dei giovanetti abusarono impudicamente, e i ragazzi soccombettero sotto al bastone.
14 The elders have deserted the gateway; the young have given up their music.	14 Gli anziani sparirono dalle porte, e i giovani dai cori festeggianti.
15 Joy has vanished from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning.	15 È cessata la gioia del nostro cuore, il nostro canto s'è voltato in lamento.
16 The crown has fallen from our heads. Alas that ever we sinned!	16 Il diadema del nostro capo è caduto, sciagurati noi, che abbiamo peccato!
17 This is why our hearts are sick; this is why our eyes are dim:	17 Per questo è contristato il nostro cuore, per questo sono spente le pupille dei nostri occhi:
18 because Mount Zion is desolate; jackals roam to and fro on it.	18 pel monte Sion che fu devastato, le volpi transitarono per esso.
19 Yet you, Yahweh, rule from eternity; your throne endures from age to age.	19 Ma tu, Signore, resterai in eterno, il tuo soglio pel volgere di tutte le generazioni.
20 Why do you never remember us? Why do you abandon us so long?	20 Perchè ti avrai da scordare per sempre di noi, lasciandoci abbandonati per lunga età?
21 Make us come back to you, Yahweh, and we will come back. Restore us as we were before!	21 Convertici a te, Signore, e ritorneremo, ripristina i nostri giorni come da principio,
22 Unless you have utterly rejected us, in an anger which knows no limit.	22 Ma per ora ci hai reietti e discacciati, ti sei fortemente adirato contro di noi.»
