Proverbs 9

1 Wisdom has built herself a house, she has hewn her seven pil ars,	1 La sapienza si è fabbricata una casa, ella ha lavorate sette colonne.
2 she has slaughtered her beasts, drawn her wine, she has laid her table.	2 Ha immolate le sue vittime: ella ha annacquato il suo vino, e imbandita la sua mensa.
3 She has despatched her maidservants and proclaimed from the heights above the city,	3 Ha mandate le sue ancelle ad invitare la gente alla cittadella, e alla città di buone mura,
4 'Who is simple? Let him come this way.' To the fool she says,	4 Chiunque è fanciullo venga a me: e a quelli, che mancano di giudicio ella dice:
5 'Come and eat my bread, drink the wine which I have drawn!	5 Venite, mangiate il mio pane, e bevete il vino, che io ho annacquato per voi.
6 Leave foolishness behind and you wil live, go forwards in the ways of perception.'	6 Abbandonate la fanciullaggine, e viverete; e battete le vie della prudenza.
7 Reprove a mocker and you attract contempt, rebuke the wicked and you attract dishonour.	7 Chi istruisce un derisore fa torto a se stesso: e chi fa la correzione all'empio se stesso contamina.
8 Do not rebuke the mocker, he wil hate you. Rebuke the wise and he wil love you for it.	8 Non riprendere il derisore, affinchè egli non prenda odio contro di te: correggi il saggio, ed egli ti amerà.
9 Be open with the wise, he grows wiser stil , teach the upright, he wil gain yet more.	9 Porgi l'occasione all'uom saggio, ed ei crescerà in saggezza; istruisci l'uom giusto, ed egli sarà sollecito di imparare.
10 The first principle of wisdom is the fear of Yahweh, What God's holy ones know -- this isunderstanding.	10 Principio della sapienza egli o il timor del Signore, e la scienza de' santi ell' è la prudenza.
11 For by me your days wil be multiplied, and your years of life increased.	11 Perocché per me saranno moltiplicati i tuoi giorni, e cresceranno di numero gli anni della tua vita.
12 Are you wise? You are wise to your own good. A mocker? The burden is yours alone.	12 Se tu sarai saggio, lo sarai in tuo prò: ma se tu se' un derisore, ne porterai il danno tu solo.
13 A silly woman acts on impulse, is foolish and knows nothing.	13 Una donna senza cervello, e loquace, e piena di vezzi, e che non sa nulla nulla,
14 She sits at the door of her house, on a throne high up in the city,	14 Si sta sedendo in una sedia sulla porta di sua casa in luogo eminente della città,
15 cal ing to the passers-by, who are walking straight past on their way,	15 Per chiamare a se que', che passano per la strada, facendo loro viaggio:
16 'Who is simple? Turn aside, come over here.' To the fool she says,	16 Chi è fanciullo si volga a me: e a colui, che di giudicio è scemo, ella dice:
17 'Stolen waters are sweet, and bread tastes better when eaten in secret.'	17 Le acque furtive sono più dolci, e il pane, che tiensi ascoso, è più gradito.
18 But the fool does not know that this is where the Shades are and that her guests are already in thevales of Sheol.	18 Ma colui non sa, che ivi stampo i giganti, e che i convitati di colei vanno nel profondo dell'inferno.
