NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
1 [For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Of Asaph Psalm] I cry to God in distress, I cry to God and he hearsme.1 Magistro chori. Secundum Idithun. Asaph. Psalmus.
2 In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; al night I tirelessly stretched out my hands, my heartrefused to be consoled.2 Voce mea ad Dominum clamavi;
voce mea ad Deum, et intendit mihi.
3 I sigh as I think of God, my spirit faints away as I ponder on him. Pause3 In die tribulationis meae Deum exquisivi,
manus meae nocte expansae sunt
et non fatigantur.
Renuit consolari anima mea;
4 You kept me from closing my eyes, I was too distraught to speak;4 memor sum Dei et ingemisco,
exerceor, et deficit spiritus meus.
5 I thought of former times, years long past5 Vigiles tenuisti palpebras oculi mei; turbatus sum et non sum locutus.
6 I recalled; through the night I ponder in my heart, as I reflect, my spirit asks this question:6 Cogitavi dies antiquos
et annos aeternos in mente habui.
7 Is the Lord's rejection final? Will he never show favour again?7 Meditatus sum nocte cum corde meo
et exercitabar et scobebam spiritum meum.
8 Is his faithful love gone for ever? Has his Word come to an end for al time?8 Numquid in aeternum proiciet Deus,
aut non apponet, ut complacitior sit adhuc?
9 Does God forget to show mercy? In anger does he shut off his tenderness?Pause9 Aut deficiet in finem misericordia sua,
cessabit verbum a generatione in generationem?
10 And I said, 'This is what wounds me, the right hand of the Most High has lost its strength.'10 Aut obliviscetur misereri Deus,
aut continebit in ira sua misericordias suas?
11 Remembering Yahweh's great deeds, remembering your wonders in the past,11 Et dixi: “ Hoc vulnus meum:
mutatio dexterae Excelsi ”.
12 I reflect on al that you did, I ponder all your great deeds.12 Memor ero operum Domini,
memor ero ab initio mirabilium tuorum.
13 God, your ways are holy! What god is as great as our God?13 Et meditabor in omnibus operibus tuis
et in adinventionibus tuis exercebor.
14 You are the God who does marvel ous deeds, brought nations to acknowledge your power,14 Deus, in sancto via tua;
quis deus magnus sicut Deus noster?
15 with your own arm redeeming your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.Pause15 Tu es Deus, qui facis mirabilia,
notam fecisti in populis virtutem tuam.
16 When the waters saw you, God, when the waters saw you they writhed in anguish, the very depthsshook with fear.16 Redemisti in brachio tuo populum tuum,
filios Iacob et Ioseph.
17 The clouds pelted down water, the sky thundered, your arrows shot back and forth.17 Viderunt te aquae, Deus,
viderunt te aquae et doluerunt;
etenim commotae sunt abyssi.
18 The rol ing of your thunder was heard, your lightning-flashes lit up the world, the earth shuddered andshook.18 Effuderunt aquas nubila,
vocem dederunt nubes,
etenim sagittae tuae transeunt.
19 Your way led over the sea, your path over the countless waters, and none could trace your footsteps.19 Vox tonitrui tui in rota;
illuxerunt coruscationes tuae orbi terrae,
commota est et contremuit terra.
20 You guided your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20 In mari via tua, et semitae tuae in aquis multis;
et vestigia tua non cognoscuntur.
21 Deduxisti sicut oves populum tuum
in manu Moysi et Aaron.
