[For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Of Asaph Psalm] I cry to God in distress, I cry to God and he hearsme.1 For the leader; al Jeduthun. A psalm of Asaph.
In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; al night I tirelessly stretched out my hands, my heartrefused to be consoled.2 I cry aloud to God, cry to God to hear me.
I sigh as I think of God, my spirit faints away as I ponder on him. Pause3 On the day of my distress I seek the Lord; by night my hands are raised unceasingly; I refuse to be consoled.
You kept me from closing my eyes, I was too distraught to speak;4 When I think of God, I groan; as I ponder, my spirit grows faint. Selah
I thought of former times, years long past5 My eyes cannot close in sleep; I am troubled and cannot speak.
I recalled; through the night I ponder in my heart, as I reflect, my spirit asks this question:6 I consider the days of old; the years long past
Is the Lord's rejection final? Will he never show favour again?7 I remember. In the night I meditate in my heart; I ponder and my spirit broods:
Is his faithful love gone for ever? Has his Word come to an end for al time?8 "Will the Lord reject us forever, never again show favor?
Does God forget to show mercy? In anger does he shut off his tenderness?Pause9 Has God's love ceased forever? Has the promise failed for all ages?
And I said, 'This is what wounds me, the right hand of the Most High has lost its strength.'10 Has God forgotten mercy, in anger withheld compassion?" Selah
Remembering Yahweh's great deeds, remembering your wonders in the past,11 I conclude: "My sorrow is this, the right hand of the Most High has left us."
I reflect on al that you did, I ponder all your great deeds.12 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, your wonders of old I will remember.
God, your ways are holy! What god is as great as our God?13 I will recite all your works; your exploits I will tell.
You are the God who does marvel ous deeds, brought nations to acknowledge your power,14 Your way, O God, is holy; what god is as great as our God?
with your own arm redeeming your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.Pause15 You alone are the God who did wonders; among the peoples you revealed your might.
When the waters saw you, God, when the waters saw you they writhed in anguish, the very depthsshook with fear.16 With your arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
The clouds pelted down water, the sky thundered, your arrows shot back and forth.17 The waters saw you, God; the waters saw you and lashed about, trembled even to their depths.
The rol ing of your thunder was heard, your lightning-flashes lit up the world, the earth shuddered andshook.18 The clouds poured down their rains; the thunderheads rumbled; your arrows flashed back and forth.
Your way led over the sea, your path over the countless waters, and none could trace your footsteps.19 The thunder of your chariot wheels resounded; your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
You guided your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20 Through the sea was your path; your way, through the mighty waters, though your footsteps were unseen.
You led your people like a flock under the care of Moses and Aaron.
